Ladies who have been (or are going through) menopause...

What can I expect?

I believe I am entering peri-menopause... I know my mom didn't have much problem with it..
I also know that every woman is different.

What I'm really looking for here, I guess, is what were your peri-menopausal symptoms?

Symptoms:  Horrible pms, hotflashes during my period, and weird periods -- heavy for a few days, tapering off then back for a few days.  The weirdest part is that not every month is created equal.  Some months are much worse than others as far as symptoms and flow.

edit to add I'm not yet menopausal, but I'm old enough to know that weird stuff is going on.

I haven't hit that stage yet (soon though!), but my friends have told me it's similar to having rather severe PMS - mood swings, some months really bad cramps, heavier than usual periods at times, sometimes skipping a period once or twice a year, maybe.  It's really varies, but most complain to me about mood swings, possible depression or snappiness.  Oh, and sleep disturbances are rather common, I believe - something again about the hormones.

I have never been so horny now that I'm going through pre-menopause.
The only down side for me is the hot flashes and night sweats.

insomnia has been a problem for me for AGES.. largely due to work scheduling not matching internal clock settings, I think.

Mood swings? Never much been a problem, although I have noticed that I HAVE been getting kinda snippy more easily lately.
Horny? not so much.

according to a thread i made a few months ago they said my night sweats were signs of meno.

im only 37!!! but body is hella different....im so fucked up too... muahaha...fear my fucked up mind..... FEAR MY FUCKED UP MIND!!!

When my mom went through it she went through heavy spouts of anger/rage, mostly while she was cooking with large, very hot pots of sauce and or useing various wooden spoons. She had spells of both hot and cold, and in general was a cranky, mess. But there were times now and again that she got very touchy feely, wanting to cuddle, with anyone/thing that would let her.

I've been having problems with insomnia but like Diane, my sex drive has taken off like a rocket. I've been pretty fortunate on the rest but then I've been treating PMS naturally for years and it's still working. So the debate rages on between me and the doc if this is pre-menopausal or PMS though we both laugh and just say "HORMONES!".
 
And Jeff, is that problem? Just need a good fucking? Damn..... *wink*

When she hit actual menopause the anger in the kitchen lessoned, she became much more stepford wife.

It was very scary to see the mommah go from psudo angry woman, to poodle-skirts.
