Great example. The issue, though, is that if there are no curling clubs within 100 miles, and I don't know anyone else who likes curling, the best way to find them would be to start getting involved with other people who like hockey, and then trying to turn them on to curling.

I might not love playing hockey, but I love that I could be doing something similar, and make friends who potentially could enjoy my favorite sport. That is, if my desire was to find other people who share in the things I love. Not everyone needs or enjoys including other people in their play, so obviously this really depends on what your expectations and desires lean towards.

Hmmm I see where you both are going here. We have the same issue with kinbaku as we have only one real good source for the material that’s a 100 miles away. We can and do read stuff in Japanese and gain insight but it does pale to getting first hand information. So I wonder if Stephen has a good idea about converting others as that most certainly has worked for us. The hazard I see though, is getting quality information if you don’t have a lot of experience in the people around you.

Just to clarify I am referring to doing your own thing if you have no experience yourself with it. I am running on the assumption that if you’re doing something that no one else has tried then you probably have little experience with it.
