ORIGINAL: sirsholly Stats prove that 60% repeat the offense. That, plus the fact that i have an um to protect from someone who may hurt him makes it my business. As me and DomKen pointed out, you're not protecting your UMs. Anyway, that figure would presumably be US statistics, so not from my neck of the woods. Up here, we're more focused on rehabilitation than producing hardened criminals, so the recidivism rates are lower. Health, al-Aswad. My last word on the subject....As a parent (and a damn good one, fellas) it is my responsibility to protect my family with whatever means i can. This includes, among other things, educating about danger when they are old enough to understand, checking recall lists, making sure his carseat is properly installed, never ever letting him out of my sight for a moment, and you bet your ass, checking the sex offender list. I realize you do not agree. Please realize i do not care. Again, holly, it's not that we think you don't care. It's that the information you derive from that list won't help you protect your children. It may heighten your awareness that there are predators, but how many people pose a threat who aren't on that list? And if you were to come face to face with someone you recognize from that list, what can you do? Give your children flash cards with their faces and tell them to run away? Having this information doesn't protect you. All it can do is alarm you. Until you can demonstrate how knowing the names and addresses of every sex offender will ultimately reduce the chances of your children being endangered, it's just another system meant to scare you into handing over more control of your life.
