Unrepentant1 -> Its Electric! (3/7/2008 9:16:10 AM)

I have noticed a lot of Dommes like electro stimulation and torture and wondered about what this would involve. I must admit this is an area that scares me and wonder if my fear is based on ignorance. I have heard about health risks, even a womans silicon breasts exploding, so can anyone help?

BoiJen -> RE: Its Electric! (3/7/2008 9:21:42 AM)

putting electricity around someone's bladder=funny

putting electricity around the insides of someone's tights=hilarious

putting electricty around someone's heart=stupid...

recently in the news a woman was killed in her trailer because she and her husband were practicing unsafe ways of electro paly...don't ever put something across your chest...if you have heart or neurosystem problem seek another form of play. These are medical issues you can check with a dr about.

Ditto what Boijen Said. If you think it is fear based on ignorance then stick your finger in a light scocket and flip the switch.

Next on Mythbusters! Cory, Jamie and Adam explore the myth that erotic electric play is no laughing matter... And just how much electrical power is required to explode a silicone breast implant? Grant and Kari want to find out!

Another bad idea.  Using electric on any part of a person's body that might contain metal.  The only reason that I know this is because My boy has a piece of shrapnel that is still in his leg where he was injured in Desert Storm.  The same holds true for people who have pins in their knee, other joints, or similar situations.

I've also been told that it's not a great idea to zap anyone on a tattoo, or on a permanent scar.

BoiJen -> RE: Its Electric! (3/7/2008 2:18:36 PM)

Scars and ink aren't as bad as metal. They're an issue because the skin tissue there is thinner. There's not as much to protect the musces from direct zappage. The other thing concerning metal is personal piercings. Watch for those

Reigna -> RE: Its Electric! (3/7/2008 2:26:03 PM)

If you play safe, it's a lot of fun. In your place I'd read up on it thoroughly before indulging. That way, your Domme thinks she's playing safe and you KNOW she is.

Very true.  As I said, since he does still have metal in his leg, I have to be very aware of it.  Hoping to be cautious, I avoid his scars, too.  Now that he's been branded, that will be another no shock zone.

I did forget to mention personal piercings, which should be treated the same way as metal that is actually inside the body.  Thank you for picking up the slack.

I've played briefly with a violet wand and it was great fun.  Especially nice if you have someone who is a masochist and likes things to be very painful--but you hate doing serious damage to tissue.

Electricity goes straight to your nerve endings, does the job intended, and stops when you remove it.  As such it is probably a good alternative for people who enjoy pain, but not scars or other long-term consequences.

The toys I tried seemed very safe and well-designed--the femme sub in question had a wonderful time.  I also couldn't resist giving my own arm a zap occasionally to be sure I knew how it generally felt.  It does sting for certain, but given the pain and bruising that some toys can inflict--I wouldn't say it was "worse".  Just...different.

If i'm thinking of the same case, another major factor in her death was that they were using bare electrical wires plugged into a wall socket! [:o]

Exploding a breast implant via electrical play is absurd. Silicone is an insulator, for one thing. Take a pair of jumper cables and attach one to each side of a silicone implant, or in a bowl of silicone, and they won't do anything. While saline at least conducts electricity, the amount of energy you'd have to put into it to do that is way, way beyond what any sane person would use for electrical play.

Electrical play can be dangerous, but it can also be safe. It's all a matter of education. There are plenty of resources out there to learn more, and as long as you learn what you're doing and have "common" sense, you can have a lot of fun.

BoiJen -> RE: Its Electric! (3/7/2008 6:29:47 PM)

hey now I didn't say it couldn't be fun...in fact read the first two examples I gave...I've done those things...I about peed laughing. The third thing I know better about...it's dangerous to put any type of electricity across one's chest and around the heart. There's other places and things to look out for. That's why I said go talk to a dr as well.

A good rule for beginners: No Contact Above the Waist.

LadyPact -> RE: Its Electric! (3/7/2008 7:27:20 PM)

I guess that means I'm all good with that new penis hook I got last week.

When I use the violet wand on body piercings, no damage is done.  The piercings tingle a bit but don't constitute any more risk to the body than me conducting current through a metal object, which I do frequently and have done so on hundreds of people.  I'm don't understand how a violet wand would impact subcutaneous metal like pins or other implants since the current stays primarily on the surface of the skin.  From what I understand, there's no risk there.  Or are you talking about some other type of e-stim, like a TENs unit or cattle prod?

Unrepentant1 -> RE: Its Electric! (3/8/2008 5:06:43 AM)

Thank you all for the repies and advice, feel a lot better about it now.

MzShngStar -> RE: Its Electric! (3/8/2008 8:51:26 PM)

My my my..wonderful electricity. My male sub and I both love playing with electricity. We use the violet wand and tens units. I have never had any problem using the violet wand on his pierced nipples or on the head of his cock<which is also pierced>Of course there isnt prolonged contact on those places so no burning is caused. The only part of the body I stay away from with the violet wand is the head, it will burn hair and can also damage eyes. Remember the current can and does travel with the right conditions. The tens unit we never use on the nipples and up. But there are enough other places to place the pads. Please make sure you are taught by someone that has done it for a while before trying it on your own, for safetys sake.

it has rather gotten metallica's garage cover to diamond heads song stuck in my head.

but in reply to the thread, there are currents safe for humans, and currents that are not safe.  electric stimulation can cause tissue damage or even death. the most common problems tend to be burns from lack of lubrication or bad contact between the electrode and the skin.  even at low current and voltage, there is the risk for electrocution resulting in heart failure, and is higher for those who use a pacemaker or similar device or who have heart conditions.  because of this, it is not advised to place the electrical contacts above waist level.

and according to wiki, "Lubrication plays an important role in the success of erotic electro stimulation since without it, there is a greater risk of high frequency epidermal burning. It is generally recommended to use a water-based lubricant, although olive oil is a popular lubricant because it doesn't dry out like water-based lubricants can. Typically it is recommended to avoid any lubricant that contains silicone since it is an insulator and hence reduces conductivity."

personally, i have no real experience or knowledge of my own, i just did some looking before when someone posed the question to me once.  my experience is basically people with their practical jokes or electric lighters they tear apart, or from electrolysis.  pretty night and day compared to this sort of stuff.   though electrolysis did burn me and cause my skin to scab over, i rarely felt pain, and thankfully no scars~
