True Story: My first "kiss" - 2nd grade, recess, Lori B****ni (* used to maintain anonymity) in a confessional. It was "it" for me - back then!

You think YOU'RE going to hell? .....at age 15....Theresa R________s and I discoverd that the church was open until 10 PM and that there was a utility room behind the big organ in the choir loft (not MY organ...stop that! ) that was never locked. So, we used to go there about every night....and we necked and we did nasty things where I eventually inserted myself into her in various places...a practice we finally stopped when a rather violent thunderstorm erupted the first time we tried oral sex.....the flashes of lightning, backlighting that huge stained glass window with St. Somebodyorother on it...looking at us.....holding a book....one hand raised....index finger pointed up....halo...the works.....she didn't go down on me again for a week.

Merc, come on. Did you take a Comparative Religion seminar from Ann Coulter or something? The Moslems selected for the evening news are of course the wack jobs who will contribute to our fears and thereby bump ratings. I can scarcely believe that you of all people would swallow the propaganda which suggests that the extreme, radical and apparently politically motivated fringe accurately represent Islamic believers as a whole.

Let me offer some evidence to the contrary. There has been a vibrant dialog between prominent adherents of Islam and representative of other religions for many, many generations. It has been published for members of all faiths, (including humanism and scientism) to consider. You can find plenty of it at a nearby university library and so can any Moslem.

More immediately, I know some of "them". Decent guys they are on average but no saints. The ones I've seen eat pork in public have so far not been dismembered or stoned for their sins. None of them is afraid of a lively discussion comparing and criticising particular religions and religion in general.

So I'm calling bullshit on your Evil Monolith of Islam bit. What do you say?

I take offense to this thread. This is a religion that many many people believe in. The Catholic Church has its flaws, as does every faith. The church doctrine does not condone the alter boy scandals, that is a crime and there are people within the church who aren't good people, just as there are bad Jews, bad doctors, bad blacks, bad whites, bad evangelists, bad teachers and even bad popes. Wow, everyone hopped on the bandwagon on the racism thread - I suppose Catholic bashing is just fine?
