ORIGINAL: MasterBlueTiger First off I want to say that I define marriage different than other people. I consider it a "Union of Souls" something that trancends religion, gender, politics, etc. The idea that you have to have a marriage legalized is absurd. People have been getting married long before formalized governments existed. Just look at ancient nomadic tribes. If you feel otherwise please provide me with historical data to back up your opinion, thank you. I consider marriage to be a spiritual thing. Weddings are cool in their own way, and I wouldn't mind having one, but because of the leagl mumbo jumbo crap I would have one mostly for fun. I beleive weddings themselves were originally intended to be a celebration of this spiritual devotion between two people(or more in polygamous, polyamorous relationships), no religion or politics about it. Its a party! History 101 Marriage is/was/always has been about property rights <and the whole commitment to one> whether it is camels or cars. Being married gives you certain rights. Furthermore back in the day the oldest son pretty much got everything and daughters got squat. Check your facts. That is why gays want to goverment to accept their marriages. So they can share ret, medical benefits and other rights afforded in marriage, that your not entitled to without it. BadOne Thanks for the info you make a good point. I will admit that I am a bit of an idealist. Sure the world may never be perfect, but I don't see that as a reason not to try. Doesn't the whole legal stuff bother anyone else. To me it seems like a way for the elitests of the world to have their way with those who disagree with their views. I know people are going to disagree with me on this, but I respect everyones opinion. My stance on the whole marriage issue is that although marriages would still be held and recognized, the political aspects (such as giving benefeits and limiting who can do it and such) should be dropped as a whole so that people are truly free to do as they please. Instead the system should be arranged to benefeit the individual, not specific groups that meet some sort of standard. The odds of the things changing, though, on the current poilitical field are slim. A huge part related more to economics IMO. Its all about the taxes. They would have to restructure the entire system, which is already obviously over complex to begin with. I think I'm getting a litle off topic so I'll stop now.
