I'm stealing!

quote:

ORIGINAL: colouredin

I have no evidence that I am in love

and yet

I am

I cant prove to myself what I feel is love, i cant quantify it, and compare it to other people, it just is

the whole if you cant prove it its not there thoery is redundent

I kind of dug what she was saying.  Now the discussion is - God doesn't exist and if you can't prove he does, then he doesn't.

Now to some people, God is the same.  He is a feeling.  Something you cannot quantify or compare.  Say you 'hear him'?  Your mad, insane.

We aren't just talking christianity - To some others, the goddess or mother nature is the same.  You cant compare - you cannot quantify.

In the same way - no one can disprove the existance of a god or gods or goddess'.  So if you cannot disprove nor prove because it is a personal feeling - like love.  Why the arguments?

the.dark. - who is also stealing this -

quote:

How do you know what "god" is?  Do you experience the same "god" others do, or is it just similar enough to give the same name?  Aren't there many different definitions and types of "god" ?

My point is that you feel something.  It's quite real- you experience it.  You call this experience "god".  So long as it persists, you have "god".  When it fails, it's colloquial to say that one has "fallen away from god".  It's not a realm for some metaphysical being, but a real, physical thing that's happening inside of your mind and body.

Honestly, I think it's a pretty beautiful thing, even when you do put it under a microscope a bit.

You're describing a mystical experience - must be quite a trip.

Reminds me of the weak argument proposed in the movie CONTACT...

[Ellie challenges Palmer to prove the existence of God]
Palmer Joss: Did you love your father?
Ellie Arroway: What?
Palmer Joss: Your dad. Did you love him?
Ellie Arroway: Yes, very much.
Palmer Joss: Prove it.

kittinSol -> RE: .feelinglove.feelinggod. (3/11/2008 1:41:23 PM)

What thedark. is describing is a feeling though. She's not saying a feeling is the proof of anything; she was describing the mysticism that makes love and faith such similar experiences to some people.

Having only experienced the love aspect of this, I kind of feel like I'm missing out on something... a frustrating impression.

RCdc -> RE: .feelinglove.feelinggod. (3/11/2008 1:41:56 PM)

Hey kitten - Your comment made me think of something else to.  'Sub space' could even be an equivilant to people 'touched by the spirit'.  You can;t prove it is happening, or prove exactly what it is - but you could take a measure bloodworks etc but that wouldn't prove or disprove the thing you say you believe you are experiencing.  You can feel it, some people can even see it - but is it label?

Interesting, but seriously SUBversive. I wonder how extremely religious people would feel about this daring analogy [:D] .

softness -> RE: .feelinglove.feelinggod. (3/11/2008 1:44:26 PM)

for me ... my feelings and attitude towards God .. are the same as they are towards the men I have loved .. they are there, for better or worse .. I learn from them .. I grow in their care, but those lessons and that growth are my own .. they are just around to witness them .. and offer guidance which I can choose to take if I so wish

though it has to be said ... I have had far easier penance from God .. than I have from some men I have loved

RCdc -> RE: .feelinglove.feelinggod. (3/11/2008 1:47:32 PM)

I have been in subspace ... and I have been "touched by the spirit" (bleugh - hates the phrase but can think of none better) ... both times I was kneeling .. both times I was not expecting it until it hit me ... both times in a state of bliss

only difference

the priest didn't kiss me after and tell me how sexy I looked in bondage

Cute :-). I've hit subspace, but I wouldn't describe it as a mystical experience; to me, it's more like a transe, or even a mild epi fit. But we all feel things so differently, and what makes us so mysterious to one another is that while we have words to describe general feelings, we can never, ever, feel in the place of someone else.

Lumus -> RE: .feelinglove.feelinggod. (3/11/2008 2:10:58 PM)

I think the answer to 'Why the arguments' is in the nature of the OP's post.

Logic and reason have spawned methods of measurement.  Emotion spawns belief.  The actual argument is logic vs emotion.  There is no winner in that murky mire; it is two completely independent systems of evaluation that cause friction by their inherent roles.

If you want to put the hipwaders on, ask how a person can be passionately logical and argue with a person who tries to rationalize their feelings. [:D]

domiguy -> RE: .feelinglove.feelinggod. (3/11/2008 2:58:37 PM)

Here comes the crap....Define God or define love?....Why choose love? Why not hate, loathing, or fear? They are equally as strong of emotions.

Not a very good analogy...Comparing emotions to The Creator.

God is a thing...A being. Prove him or it. it is an impossible task. Now I will give youthe fact that there is a problem in determining how the essence of life first formed but that is hardly an argument for the continued and rather overwhelming belief that people have in a God.

God created the first single cell critter...Good for you....Now go fuck off. (not directed at any one poster...But to the world and the almighty)

domiguy -> RE: .feelinglove.feelinggod. (3/11/2008 3:25:06 PM)

I like to fuck ...An orgasm feels good...Describe "good" is that like God?

I don't know...We have a path to fulfill it is of a spiritual nature...shallow fucks like myself use the terminology of being "spiritual" to avoid utilizing the terminology of God.

Whatever power there is comes from within not some mysterious external force. People don't get it. It's easier to focus on the external because it gives one the allusion of strength....There is strength in numbers.

The fact that we are "all alone" just seems so cold, depressing and fills people with a trepidation that everything is meaningless....Quite the contrary. You live for today. The world you leave behind and the actions you take is how you will be remembered. You live like a shithead there is no bedside miracle....No acceptance of the Holy Spirit to bail yourself out.

Domiguy and a friend at a funeral...Domiguy's friend.."I hear so-and-so accepted Jesus as his savior upon his death bed....It's nice that he will be going to heaven"....Domiguy, "Fuck him...He had one nice day on this planet...what a fucking waste that it was his last. Jesus can have the asshole."

Now I know there is a difference between God and Christianity...But in order to have a belief in God most people empower that God with having relevance and an ability to interact with the world today as well as within their own lives....I just don't see it.

Go with God.
