"In weak economy, Americans swap steak for chicken"

" WASHINGTON (Reuters) - At U.S. warehouse club stores, a growing number of shoppers are giving up steak for cheaper chicken. Coffee sales are soaring at McDonald's, while higher-priced Starbucks slows. Restaurants are serving fewer customers because more people are eating at home. "

(break)

"Retail sector analysts call it "trading down" when consumers seek out cheaper alternatives, and it is increasingly evident across chain stores and restaurants. Even gasoline consumption has slowed in recent weeks."

Man, I love chicken, so much more than steak.

I never did care for coffee, but Starbucks was always a turn off to be near.  It always felt too pretenious, like they were trying to make a cup of water with beans dissolved in it seem like some sort of high-minded drink.  It's only fitting MccyD's getting the business now.

I always ate more chicken than steak anyhow, so this turn in the economy will work just fine for me

These are perfect times to perfect my veggetarian cooking skills: fallafels, anyone?

And hopefully, the steak for chicken swap will help in making people healthier. One can always dream.

I would just love a good blue steak, edged with mediterranean salad and new potatoes, except that is a real luxury. Chicken, that is pricey too. Good is I am going vegetarian, at least shopping at asian supermarkets gives good value.

If the weather is good, fishing, normally four to six mackeral is the catch, cooked within an hour later.
