ORIGINAL: OrionTheWolf 1) You lied as that link goes to no standard, just more evidence that there is discimination. 2) I have never said there is not discrimination. 3) Saying it is okay to discriminate for someone, because of their race or ethnicity, is hypocritical to saying discimination is bad. It is like sending mixed signals. If you do not believe that, look at some of the research done on social impact of cognitive developement of mixed signal messages (this is where many parents fuck up with "Do as I say not as I do), because we learn by seeing. 4) A level playing field apparently seems to be subjective and relies on opinion, as the things to supposedly level it, are contributing to the continuation of discrimination. As long as their are lines of division, people will make decisions based upon those lines, sometimes even subconsciously. 5) Your's and other's "reasons" for discriminating for someone, is justification for hypocricy. People need to earn what they get (merit), or the value of it is less. I concur. Reverse discrimination IS discrimination. Period. Says who? Let`s use the analogy of a foot race. If you start the race and hold back the black runners and let the white runners lap the track a few times, you call that discrimination. If you finally recognize and stop the discrimination and let the black runners run "freely," they`ll still lose the race b/c the white runners are miles ahead already. You can`t you can`t call the race fair just because you stopped the discrimination. Same is so in society. You also can`t say that things are all even-steven just because there`s supposedly no discrimination any more(something we know is not true) If we don`t allow the black runners to catch up,the race will never be fair. The same is so in society. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I asked earlier in the thread,...if it isn`t discrimination that`s holding people of color back, what is? Is there something amiss with African Americans or black culture, that`s holding them back? Then we go back to the beginning of time? After all, we all have been discriminated against at one time or another. Who says how far back is far enough? Do we all go back to our roots and leave America for the Indian people who were here in the first place? (unless we go back even further) Does something I do today for someone of Indian race make up for the injustices and indignities suffered at the hands of others? I am a woman. Women were discriminated against. I think I should earn anything I get on my own merit, and not with a false head start because of it.
