You may have noticed that I have been staying away from this thread, and for good reason. Part of it is I do not know where to start, but I got a path. See if someone shoots me.
There is a difference between a racist and a bigot, and the textbok definition does not properly define it. It is one of the finer points of the language that many do not understand, like the difference between a motor and an engine.
A racist can live next door to Orientals, who they do not like. They will befriend them, maybe have block parties with them, associate with them. All of that. Eat their food, feed them also, like when it is cookout season. Help them fix their gutters, and accept similar help. A racist can do this. Actually a true seperatist can as well if they live far enough away. But a racist will teach his boys to stay away from those Oriental girls. He does not want grandchildren with them. By what right can he say this ? Well he and his Wife GAVE those children their lives. Go play, just don't jump into the bed. I firmly believe he is within his rights to do that, but it is not within his rights to teache the children that ehy are better simply by virtue of their race.
That would be bigotry. It is wrong and should never happen. A bigot living next door to an Asian family would most likely not allow his children to play with theirs, would shun them, not speak to them and not learn from them, which brings up another point.
To me, being a racist means I am part of my race, which I want to see propogate and thrive. Wouldn't you ? But that is all it means. But I thoroughly enjoy having conversations with people of different races. I learn about them, they learn about me. And I do not need my race to cost their race anything, and we are no better. Think about it, they live next door ! How different in status can they be ?
I am better than some. I am not as good as some. That is a fact and it has nothing to do with race. My accomplishments in the elecronics field, especially in the areas of reverse engineering and reengineering are considerable, and well beyond most people.
Now let's say I am Black. Compare me to a White crackhead living on the streets because their own Mother won't even have them. For that matter, compare a Mexican doctor to an Asian two bit crack whore. Take it a bit further, an Ethiopian Nobel prize winner vs a German car thief.
Are you getting it ? The old stereotypes are no longer valid. And when it comes down to White vs Black, we ain't got alot to be proud of. Not at all.
We took centuries to build this society, and it was not easy. Imagine yourself Black, thrust into this society a mere two hundred years ago. Try that. If you were a flight risk you slept chained up. It was illegal to teach you to read. Come out of that in two hundred fucking years and tell me how great the white race is.
And just for the record, the words motor and engine differ thusly :
A motor is a device that converts energy to motion. It's meaning is that usually if you turn an electric motor's shaft it will generate electricity. If it's an air motor, you know an air tool, if you turn it it could produce air pressure which would be able to be reused. The problem is efficiency. In short the word motor implies that it is a direct conversion, and in some cases it can be reversed, that is motion can be converted back to whatever potential energy fed it in the first place.
An engine is a different story. Now think of this, your car has an engine, NOT A MOTOR. God did I argue that point one time, and I wanted to shoot the dude when he got the dictionary out. In your car, if it is a stick shift, and it has a motor in it and not and engine, I should be able to reconvert what it was fed to run in the first place.
That means I should be able to put it in a forward gear, and push it backwards and have it suck in air and pollution through the tailpipe and replace the gasoline that used the be in the tank.
It's the same with racist and bigot. Those who think the dictionary is gospel are stuck with the limited definitions. English is simply not like that. And we haven't even touched on slang.
I would admit that a bigot is usually a racist, but not always. Some, even of the same race will prejudice themselves against members of a different religion, or even a different church or school. Notice I said prejudice themselves. That is in the same light as the motor/engine thing. You can think what you want, even avoid people for their race, but you are not really a bigot until you start thinking you are better than them because of their race.
Actually I don't like much of other races, but the thing is they have the same right to exist as I do. They're here, they can have a beer (if they want it). I have no problem with it, I have no problem with anyone until I do.
This is long enough, perhaps unfinished, but I hope people get the idea. You can be proud of your ancestors as long as you realize that their accomplishments imbue nothing upon. Be judged for what you are.
