Those were my questions.. they do live in a small town, and he has been with her since she was 19 ( I did the math)

They live in a small run down little trailier. One can assume they are not educated beyond high school level... and that does not usualy mean very much however if he has been taking care of and dealing with a severly emotionaly chalanged girl friend for all of that time bets are he is a bit removed from realtiy himself... not to mention he had not realized just how bad it had gotten untill she grew unresponsive.

I have seen couples where both have mental health issues, very low education, ( teachers gave them a free pass through) and are fairly poor and removed from most friends and family. When I lived out in the country a few years back a neighbor of ours were a couple fitting that basic outline. Both very mentaly ill. The husband actualy violent... and they had a son with learning disabilites (autisum) because they had both been on meds when she became pregnant.

Not every one is playing with a full deck. This poor bloke I bet they will find is not. He may just end up being simple. But no one fully aware would have let it go on that long.

Absolutely.  It's all very well the report saying they are looking into charging him, but if he isn't mentally capable of making a judgement call, I would find that really unfair and really do have to wonder why countries like ours even have social systems to not assist people in the way they should be assisted.

I'm not into the whole big brother thang, but seriously I wonder about neighbours (ok, maybe their neighbours are similar to themselves) - and I don't know about the whole 'social security' system in the states - but there has to be someone who cares?  It is just disheartening to think there wasn't.

Latest update on this is that they do want to charge him.  However, it also said that he is mentally challenged.

With these facts presented (and it is all we have) I see that as just plain wrong.  If he is mentally challenged, that makes him no different to her if she is diagnoised and being unstable or 'challenged' in some way - will they be charging her?
I doubt it.

Living in Kansas my guess would be that she will be sent to a state mental hospital as soon as they get her medical issues treated.  If he is mentally challenged he would probably also go to the mental hospital before he could be convicted of a crime.   They would have to determine if he was competent to stand trial.

I as far as I know,it`s physically impossible to stay in one position 24/7.

We have to change positions and be prone at some point.

Call this the ultimate stress position and add it to the tools used to fight the tourists, err,..... I mean terrorists.

FR:  Update

It looks like the DA is filing charges of mistreatment of a dependent adult (so she was likely on disability).

I've had a good laugh with this story, but it's one of the most sordid incidents since I... ach... forget it.

Whipple described the guy as having "a diminished mental capacity" too, so it could be difficult to get a conviction.  ach, me too.

NESS CITY, Kan. - A man whose girlfriend authorities say spent nearly two years in a bathroom in their house, sitting on the toilet so long that the seat adhered to her body, has been charged with mistreatment of a dependent adult.

Kory McFarren, 37, was charged Monday in Ness County District Court.

McFarren called the Ness County Sheriff’s Office in late February to say something was wrong with his girlfriend. When authorities arrived at the home, they found Pam Babcock, 35, stuck to the toilet, which they think she had sat on for about a month.

The Ness County Attorney does plan to file charges against the boyfriend of a woman who sat on his toilet for so long her body stuck to the seat. Ness County sheriff Bryan Whipple asked County Attorney Craig Crosswhite to file charges against Kory McFarren for mistreatment of a dependent adult.  The woman was found after living in Mc-farren's bathroom for 2 years. Crosswhite says she is being treated at a Wichita facility for life-threatening conditions. Mc-farren says he did nothing wrong. Crosswhite says he intends to "file the necessary legal proceedings, however, the investigation is still open."

if they go to the same mental hospital they can still date and get married!

After two years the toilet should really belong to her not her boyfriend; squatter’s rights.[8|]
