Sigh. I was sorry to see people seemingly lose interst in this topic. It's one that fascinates me, so, I hope y'all will bear with me while I make one more comment.

I was on a meditation retreat in upstate New York (Finger Lakes region one winter). Every participant was assigned a job of some kind. One woman's task was to find material on the 70 acre property and make a flower arrangement daily. I was glad it was not me who drew that challenging task.

This creative woman who was able to see beauty all around her even in the dead grasses,  spent pods, stones, lichens, etc. made the most heartbreakingly beautiful arrangements of material we would normally pay little attention to on a winter hike in the woods. It was one of the highlights of my retreat.

Sorry to resurrect this topic for you that are done with it, but I just happened to remember it in the shower this morning and it refreshed me, once again.

I feel as I have gotten older (the big 51!)..that I see more beauty now than ever before..or maybe it is that I have more time to notice it..or maybe it is that I can appreciate the more unusual beauty as opposed to the obvious..I am big on house gazing..and seem to find the older more established homes, the ones with a lot of individual character, even in a bit of a ramshackle state, to be the ones that I find utterly enthralling...maybe its the history they convey, maybe its the uniqueness, but whatever it is..I fall in love with its aged display. The same comes to people, the unique..I often look into the mirror trying to see that unique, that thing that would tell me that I have a certain beauty despite my age, despite that southward travelling of body parts...that thing that says, accept gracefully what age has created...some days I rail against the changes and other days I accept the changes as well worth the gain in self confidence that I now have...do I often think of maybe making the ladies more perkier? do I contemplate a face lift so as to avoid that cromagnum man brow?...OMG! absofrickinlutely!...but money aside..I am not sure I would go for it...I kind of like to see what the future will bring, see what was meant to be..see if maybe a certain uniqueness and quiet beauty will emerge.....Tempting

Dude, show some class - perhaps a modicum of restraint.

Hahahahahahahahahaha. OK, now THAT was funny. Alright, now let's grow up here people....*chortle*......*snigggger*....whew, got that out of the way....ok.

Now to comment on the post-

What does beauty mean to me? Obviously what it means to me is based on my perception of the world, so throwing that caveat out there-

I find SOME scars to be appealing, why? not sure, but I see an individuality in them.I have a friend with a huge wavy scar across her upper chest from a surgery, and I think it's hot, I ALWAYS think about licking it.......wow I AM a freak, hahahaha.

I think though beauty is an inside job as well, I've ran across many people that are good looking physically, and within three minutes of talking to them they have become very ugly because of what's shining through from the inside. Or I should say the lack of things shining through. I have met a lot of plain looking people that over time have become beautiful to me.....because of who they are as a whole.
I agree with L. T. on the fact that so many folks are walking around comparing their "insides" to others "outsides", it's not a good way to find self -worth, for sure.

And As L.T. said some things ARE beautiful because of the imperfections, my doberman has a tiny, tiny patch of white
under her chin and it's fucking adorable. Now to a judge in a dog show it would probably be "unnacceptable" or "imperfect" .......but to me it MAKES her perfect.

Mainly I think our own beauty shines through if we are content and confident, I rarely compare my insides to others outsides theses days(I said rarely, at least it's honest).
