akisha,

3 hours huh??

Well your statement is valid, but we all operate with some time frame in mind, is it not so with your Sir or Master?

Another valid but open ended statement.

he reason the debate goes on is that the definition of Master is dependant on the opinion of the person using the word.

pepper,

I agree with your statement, but therein lies the problem.

All tyhe newbys coming in the the path are just picking up titles and really have no clue the of the power, responsibiliites and commitments associated with each.

Me thinks there are many Dominants that contribute to the gap.

I don't think it's that simple, pup. The submissive I'm courting will never be my "slave." I don't want a "slave" per se (at least, not as I understand the term). And I'm certain;y not a "Master" of anything yet. I believe it has far more to do with the amount of demonstrated skill and knowledge of the lifestyle.

Sir John,

Very well put!

ownedgirlie -> RE: How long between Sir and Master (3/13/2008 7:57:08 PM)

A month after talking daily with him, I asked him to train me as his slave.  This was different than asking for ownership; I wanted to learn him as he was learning me and to understand what it would mean to belong to him.  I called him Sir for that first month and change, and then began calling him Master, even though I resisted ownership.  In truth he was Mastering me, even though I did not want to admit that he already owned me, too.

A little over two months into the relationship I admitted that he already owned me, and called him Master freely and without reservation.  6 months into the relationship he put his collar on me, and a year into it I was "branded" with his tattood insignia, designed by  him for me.

More than you asked for, but hey.

I didn't say 3 hours after we met [;)]  three hours into our first actual night together. little bit different lol

I had know him for a couple months already. [8D]

But yes, how I addressed him progress with how comfortable i felt with him and how much i trusted him etc.  Thank goodness he was not one of the egomaniacs that demanded a title upon first talking. Then again if he had i probably would have moved on.

chaosforge -> RE: How long between Sir and Master (3/13/2008 9:55:57 PM)

Each situation is it's own. Each set of people will have their own expectations. The two (or more) in each case will figure out what is right for them through that important communication phase in the beginning.

The question is this; how long does a D/s relationship go on for you before you allow your sub to call you Master.

CP

CP, I've been with Sir for a year and three months... and I still call Him my Sir.  I am His submissive not His slave nor do I anticipate becoming His slave.  So, to answer your question, in our case calling Him master isn't going to happen.  I love Him with all that I am... I just happen not to be a slave. [;)]

bigdevs -> RE: How long between Sir and Master (3/14/2008 1:15:59 AM)

I normally don't let anyone call Me Master if they are not in My collar. I don't believe in quick collaring either. I'm not overly fond of Sir, but that's just a personal preference. I more often than not will have the girl use that though because there aren't many other things prior to Master save for My name - which I'll sometimes have a girl who is uncomfortable with that do it just because I can. However, I feel Master is a special term so I don't pass it out freely. I feel those who do have much to learn.

Skully7000 -> RE: How long between Sir and Master (3/14/2008 2:56:10 AM)

names and titles are only as important as the meaning behind it.

I use Sir as a part of my normal vocabulary so its hard(even when a few friends want me to turn it off) but as a dominant I say it as a matter of respect rather then an admission of Submission.

Master: I still find it quite silly when used as a preface "master_____"  but perfectly fine when used as a descriptor: "he's my master" or as a pronoun "excuse me Master, Here is the _____ "

a pet peeve of mine is the being called Sir prematurely. if you walk up to me and just start spouting "sir's" at me they sound Hollow and superficial (perhaps with a smidgeon of sucking up?)  Besides: Sir Skully just sounds silly. Brings forth the wrong type of Knight in shining armor visions.

Cheers

CrazyC -> RE: How long between Sir and Master (3/14/2008 3:11:54 AM)

For me, it depends on the relationship on the level of relationsship. I don't think i could put it in a cookie cutter of when this should happen.

But the more I have come to learn about myself, the more i am realizing that it will take alot before i call anyone Master. There is something long term I am looking for in that type of commitment. I was with a very supportive Dom for six months and though I submitted...I never wore his collar. To me, I can submit and never wear a collar. So just for that, there needs to be something where i know we are on the same page. Then to get to Master....someone i feel there is a strong enough trust, and a connection that can only be built with time. That is when i will find a Master.

coloure, well setting aside your difficulty, what do you feel is an appropriate time frame tween sir and Master?

CP

I firstly I dont think all relationships have calling someone Master as the goal, it doesnt mean that the relationship is more valid or anything.

Secondly we seem so obbsessed with length of time = real relationships. The amount that I have heard people say "you have only been together dot amount of time whys it a big deal" i think thats a silly argument. I think you can fall in love very quickly you can feel chemistry and connection, I spent a year talking to my ex and never felt as close to him as I do to my current Sir and I havent known him anywhere near as long. Thats just me, I think that you can feel instantly that someone is right for you and trust them quickly and there isnt a reason for it, its just there. I think that the word Master should be used whenever the Dominant feels that its appropriate and that the submissive feels that the word fits how they feel.
