All tyhe newbys coming in the the path are just picking up titles and really have no clue the of the power, responsibiliites and commitments associated with each.

Me thinks there are many Dominants that contribute to the gap.

In many of these cases time will take care of the matter.  We often talk about sub frenzy.  Perhaps there is also newbie Dom frenzy...those who want to feel like a Master NOW!!  Maybe these newbies are rushing into things faster than then should, but there is little we can do about it except to set an example.

All this goes with my personal theory that a Dom needs 5 years of experience to settle down and become a good Dom.  Perhaps the 5 years is needed to calm the hormones down and realize there is more to what we do than kinky sex.

A month after talking daily with him, I asked him to train me as his slave. This was different than asking for ownership; I wanted to learn him as he was learning me and to understand what it would mean to belong to him. I called him Sir for that first month and change, and then began calling him Master, even though I resisted ownership. In truth he was Mastering me, even though I did not want to admit that he already owned me, too.

A little over two months into the relationship I admitted that he already owned me, and called him Master freely and without reservation. 6 months into the relationship he put his collar on me, and a year into it I was "branded" with his tattood insignia, designed by him for me.

More than you asked for, but hey.

girlie,

More then I asked for??? NO, right on target per requerst, but it seems that you were a fast mover also , grins but it did work out.

It did happen quickly, yes.  Even he commented on that.  But it felt right and I knew in my gut it was right, and I put everything into it.  The way he guided me along was perfect for me.

(I fixed your quotes [:)])

This is definitely an individual-basis deal. There will always be the people with sub/teen mentalities calling any Dom/Domme who deigns to talk to them 'Master,' but there are also some cases where it really is appropriate immediately...like after a long friendship turns feral.

tahlly -> RE: How long between Sir and Master (3/14/2008 8:59:47 AM)

Before I was collared, I was not allowed to address him by any name or title. Since the collaring, it has always been Master. I was collared almost 9 months after we first met.

Heck, at 4 years 360 days they're still damp behind the ears!!!  They could still grow some mold and mildew.

lilpookie,

well that might indicate that only emotion is going to rule rather than a good dose of logic and time; but to each their own.

SirRussellP -> RE: How long between Sir and Master (3/14/2008 12:07:25 PM)

Since it is a very charge word for me personally and when I take a lady to be mine she will call me by that in private.  My new slave want to call me by Master even in public to show her love and devotion.  That I will allow but not around those that I work for and with.  As far as what she wants to call me that doesn't matter since we live by the rules I set.

Hopefully that is understandable in a D/s M/s O/s lifestyle it is the Dominant right to set the rules and inforce the rules.  So in short I would say it is up to the Dominant to require her to use a term of respect that speaks to him at the first moment he feels that she should address him that way.

Where as I agree with most of what you said. The submissive should be able to set guidelines and ground rules too.

You said your submissive is not to call you "Master" around co-workers. Well what if a Dominant wants the submissive to call him Master or such around her co-workers and it could put her job at jepordy?  Is it ok for him to jeprodize her career and she just has to do as told cause he's the Dominant??

Doesn't seem reasonable to me sorry

sweetnurseBBW -> RE: How long between Sir and Master (3/14/2008 1:11:27 PM)

For me Master is only a term I use for the one that owns me. Master is more of a personal term and when ownership is established that is when the title Master comes out.  Length of time til ownership is established? I think that is subjective and applies differently to everyone.
