Everyone keeps bringing up Falwell and Robertson....

But has any president actually been a member of Robertson's or Falwell's congregation?

Obama is a MEMBER of Jeremiah Wright's church!

Who did you vote for in the last two elections?

2000: Pat Buchanan. Because he supported cutting government programs and agencies.
2004: Bush
I will never in my entire life cast a vote for a socialist. And that's pretty much the only type of candidates the Democrats nominate these days. John Kerry scared the shit out of me so much I voted for Bush. For 2008....McCain is a big-government elitest. Hillary makes my blood run cold. And Obama is just a joke in my opinion. I think Obama will win this November, but he'll be out in 4 years because he's the 2nd coming of Jimmy Carter. When he screws up the mid-east and Iraq finally goes into Civil War...we will have $8 a gallon gas and the dollar will be near collapse since the only ones keeping it afloat are our arab "allies" over in Saudi Arabia.

?

Wow.  This is pathetic, even for you.

Goes to show what is wrong with the mind set of so many that view themselves on the "right" side of things. Unbelievable.

Sorry DG, but many, many people are going to be PISSED OFF.
I am surprised you can't figure that out.
Come on now, baby?
You can't see shit hitting the fan over this?
I mean really?

Call Govenor Spitzer and ask him how his shit is hanging now.
People do look at what people in certain positions DO, and are

That's what I said earlier, MANY, MANY, MANY pastors are exactly
like him!
THAT is what is so fucking funny.

I invited our friends here, to attend a predominatly Black church with me.

What does it matter how many pastors spew vile evil and hateful rhetoric from the relative safety of their pulpits? Whether Reverend Wright stands alone or is backed by an army of Black preachers, his words and his beliefs have no place in the heart of any man who would presume to be my President.

mnottertail -> RE: Interesting Quotes from Obama's Pastor (3/14/2008 5:09:27 PM)

Well, lets just put this in perspective
you drop a fiver in the plate 5X52

You don't drop a goddamn thing with the IRS.

Obama spends more in toilet fucking paper than most of us make in a year.

Drops a tax bracket, and gleans a little black fundamentalist vote....

I can't even get a 24/7 cocksucker for that kind of money.
Everybody is flipping out about what somebody he knows says....not what he is dumbassedly saying, he aint in the paper in a bad way, it is about his associates.
I would say he understands efficient government.

what are you afraid of?

that a "crazy" Black minister might change your religion because of his pov's from the pulpit?

sheeeeeesh

no one's forcing you to accept them and/or join the church.  he's a man speaking about the government ...denouncing it really as it pertains to the Bible.

Seeing the way people have a faith based belief in all that's done in the name of either the DNC or RNC, yup - it's a 'religion'. Some people are more orthodox than others, but it reminds me of my days as a member of the 'one true church'. By definition anything said, coming from, or associated by any other church was considered blasphemy.

You don't think that's the case?

I know that there are some people who feel that way, but I wasn't venturing into the hypothetical.  I was speaking to your specific beliefs, based on this statement, with which I disagree:

" That would be the equivalent of me giving $22k to the DNC, or the current version of the RNC for that matter."

Bottom line - I agree with you, he's a parishioner. Pragmatically, the decision is to be comfortable with his belief, and his parish, or church, or not.

What do you think - as a parishioner of this church - will this help him get elected in November?

I wouldn't toss this one into the "helpful" column for him, but I think he's not likely to lose any significant ground with it either.  People will see the frothing and knee-jerking for what it is and mostly stick where they are.  Until the next earth shattering "scandal" anyway.

quote:

If he is the party's choice Senator McCain will save a shit load of production fees on his advertisement. All he has to do is run Senator Clinton's, and show Senator Obama calling Reverend Wright an "uncle" while playing his sermons in the background.

WOW-Its going to be a FUN summer with these campaign to watch!

I don't know if 'fun' is the word I would use, but if things are getting this loony already, it certainly isn't going to be a boring summer.

Lets...

How many rural voters making little more, or perhaps a little less than $22,500; driving around in their cancer ridden Chevy pick up trucks with the 'Easy Rider' rifle racks, and US flag bumper stickers; will vote for a guy who gave $22,500 to a Pastor who will be heard shouting "God Damn America!"?

It has nothing to do with religion, race, or issues. It's Governor Dukakis being identified as the person who is blamed in a successful political ad campaign for freeing Willie Horton. Know who started the Massachusetts convicted murderer furlough program? I bet you don't. It was Republican Governor Francis Sargent.

When that image and that voice plays on TV, with a well dressed Senator Obama cut in putting in his version of a $5 donation; it won't play well in 'Peria'. Besides, I doubt many of those 'good old boys' can do that math you outlined Ron. At least not until summer when they can take off their boots.

Jeremiah Wright is not a "single man" within the church, he is/was it's pastor. And while Obama "strongly condemned" the statements, he stood by the beliefs which birthed those statements. I have not read where Obama's church "strongly condemned" Wright's diatribe.

The pastor is the voice of the church. Obama's church speaks with a voice of hatred, arising from a belief in hatred. So far, Obama has yet to distance himself from vile, hateful beliefs.

Not much ado about nothing. Much ado about something.

Well, we simply disagree. I don't know what it is that you think Obama is supposed to do. He was clear in his stance regarding the statements, so what is it that you want? You want him to drop out of the race because of Wright? You want him to stop attending at his chosen place of worship? You want him to denounce the 1st ammendment, get Wright thrown in jail, get flogged, burned in effigy? I mean, what? Obama does not embrace the ideology of Wright, so what is going to satisfy your blood thirst here? You don't want him as president because of the views of Wright, that's your choice - vote for someone else.

As I said, much ado about nothing.

This is what sucks about reality....It's hard to sometimes see as well as stomach. we would like to think that all is right in the world. That everything is equal....I'm saying it is not. You want to be a black rising star? You have to do a little pandering to the preachers and other fuckheads that for some unfucking fathomable reason seems to have a grip on my proud black brothahs and sistahs.

Bush's first speech to the NAACP didn't take place until July 20, 2006. No one said shit.

After winning the Presidency one of Bush's first speeches was given at Bob Jones University...Until '71 the school did not admit blacks. Then it would only admit "married" blacks to stop the possibility of interrracial dating. In 1975 Bob Jones University adopted campus rules which explicitly forbid interracial dating which is still in effect today. They cite the Biblical story of the Tower of Babel "God has seperated people for His own purpose."

They informed their known gay alumni that they would be charged with trespassing if they ever attempted to set foot on the campus of their alma mater.

I'm pretty sure that this was the first university that Bush spoke at after initially winning the Presidency...Not one comment...Reagan spoke at this university....Not one comment. Why Obama and not Bush? If you lean to the right is it okay to rub shoulders to those who hold an extreme view within your party?

Or is it because these people represent some of your base? Unfortunately it seems to get voted in you have to pander to the A-holes as well as to those that possess a certain degree of understanding.

It's how it works.

Level -> RE: Interesting Quotes from Obama's Pastor (3/14/2008 5:58:23 PM)

I agree with the "this is how it works", DG, but not that nothing was said about Bush at Bob Jones U, and much was made about McCain's flip-flopping with Falwell and the like.

That for sure is Merc and not 'nbeth.

Tell ya what, I am with ya.  527 money aint out yet, and I have to live with a government intruding on my life, and as a realist you do to, tho we both wish we could kill all them no good motherfuckers.  They cant even do government right.

But, I am willing to go for a Kennedy, who speaks of youth and change, or a Clinton who speaks of youth and change and gets a blowjob, or for fucks sake even a jimmy carter who knew what he was speaking about, rather than anyone who thinks that we are in need of actual fucking action, I think it is pretty well fucked up enough, and no more laws need to be passed, no more global hearts and minds need to be won, and no more Chainsaw Al sort of cuts and slashing needs to be done, and we say look, kids----this is what the fuck we got, and their really aint nobody looking to take it away from us, they get fucked up when we decide to stick our nose in it, and hep them to our wisdom.  I want to drive caddillacs like George Bush does (well, I already do that) and I want a lake home and a big boat and icemen pissing and umbrella stands just like Kenneth Lay, and I want blowjobs just like Billie J, and I wanna have more   money than I know what to do with just like Bill Gates and I wanna and I wanna.........and I send a kid to their room for punishment (cause you cant pound the dogshit outta them no more, to alighn their secular and temporal acts) and they got XBOX and snowmobiles, and DVDs and all kinda shit..........

Whatever happened to deprivation?  What ever happened to this is where I stand on the earth and I will make a go of my own shit, have a little action and consequence? Did that die with Bill Cullen?

Enough.

Ron

If he doesn't want to be tarred with Rev Wright's venomous hatred, that would be the logical step to take. Then his "strong condemnation" would sound credible.

Obama can stand square with Rev Wright if he so chooses. Let him do it in Chicago, not Washington DC.
