I hate it when I get turned down for a guide dog and I havent even gone through the training process yet. How can Leader Dogs make the decision to say that I am "not qualified" when they havent even trained me to work with a service dog yet? Grrrrrrrr!! [:(]

I love it that another school Guide Dogs of America is willing to give me a shot at getting one [:D]

So I am in a love/hate mood *s*

Hugs to all those who I haven't talked to in a while ((((( )))))

Guide dogs are great, MoGa! I work p/t w/a woman who has Cerebral Palsy & she had a black lab guide dog....Cooper.
He's a bit stubborn at times, lol but it's such a miracle to see him once he starts "working".  He can open the door, turn on the lights, help me get her ready for bed, pick up anything she's dropped, bring her the phone and my favorite is when she goes shopping she gives Cooper the credit card & he "hands it to the cashier" who in turn gives Cooper the receipt for her to sign!  Yes it's a bit slobbery but it's so much fun to watch!

Thank you Potty! Thing is, I just need help so I dont run into walls, trees, buildings ect. Ask those who have guided me about how THEY have run me into these things! lol I can do pretty much everything that you have mentioned, providing it is in my own house lol
I just want my own independence. I need quality of life. It is so depressing to not be able to get out there and DO. I can, of course, but I am scared to death of riding the bus, going off on my own in a store, etc. I know a dog will only do what I guide him to do, but it sure would be nice to know I am not totally alone when I am out trying to do these things. I really didn't know how big this world is, til I couldn't see it anymore.

Hugs!

{{{HUGS MoGa}}}
I didn't mean to insinuate you couldn't do the things I listed, it was to encourage you about your Guide Dog helping you. Their abilities are amazing!
Just remember that YOU"RE his/her MISTRESS (that should be easy for you)[:D]
Noone else is to give him/her commands.

The public will be trying to pet/play w/Cooper & that's very distracting to him. When he's out in public he's working hence the "Service Dog Jacket" he wears but people don't
think about that, they just see a dog who can "perform tricks" when in reality he's performing a service for his owner. (Damn, does this sound familiar or what??)
When I interviewed for this position we met at a coffee shop sitting outside. A man walked up w/his dog, tied him up and the dog started barking aggressively at Cooper. I felt "protective" of his owner because she was in a wheelchair so I got between the dog's and commanded Cooper to sit down. BIG MISTAKE & I immediately recognized that.
Don't let anyone else command your dog.

*Adores Potty* Thanks girlfriend. I don't mean to sound ungrateful for what I do have, I just want more. It is more than having a guide dog, it means that I will have independence where I really don't have it now. I do have it, but it is so scary out there *smiles*

I can't begin to understand what you're going thru but I can certainly empathise with the desire for more freedom outside of your disability. I see that everytime I help my CP woman, the freedom that Cooper gives her, not having to rely on people ALL of the time. He even untangles his own leash when it gets caught in her wheelchair!  Love that big guy!  One night I went to her place & she asked if I could untangle her straps from the wheels so she could eat. Turns out her straps disabled the chair and her dinner was just an arm's reach away and she had to sit & look at it until I arrived.......2 hours later! I told her to CALL ME to come earlier if she needs me but she's so independent. Luckily she has a great sense of humor & can laugh at herself.  Unfortunately Cooper couldn't undo that tangle so even the Service Dog's have their limits [;)]

...I get more and more the impression to be jinxed [>:][>:][>:]

In 2005 a while after the attacks in London I used the bus from Westminster to Victoria and the bus, waiting on a traffic light...got involved in an accident...as another bus driver decided to drive right into us from behind...that noise it made reminded a lot on the bombings due to its recent event at that time...

however....luckily nobody got hurt...

Now a few months ago I was sitting in another bus...and thought about one woman who was running outside "be careful...we are right in front of you..." nevertheless she managed to run right into our bus...no idea how she did not see us...

and today again...I was reading something and then stopped, looked at a woman who was standing in the bus...and in just that moment she sacked together...2 people run off straight to her and she came around again a moment later...

...but it just makes you wonder if I attract that crap to happen with just being in those buses [8|]

I hate it when I make a photo family calender of my mom. I tried really hard and made no typos. But I put my bigt sisters birthday as the 10th of march and not the 8th. now its already printed. Never noticed my mistake in all the proofreading.

Big hugs, Princess.  I know how hard you worked on that & how much you wanted it to be perfect.

Daddysredhead -> RE: I hate it when........ (12/16/2009 4:47:06 PM)

Lushy,

It's all good, sweetness.  My own beloved mother's birthday was March 8th, so your sister is very special to share that with her.  It will be ok because you have done a wonderful thing to memorialize your mother, and that won't be lost on a 48 hour "oops."

Much love,
Red  [:)]

When I saw the calendars printed out it just made me cry. In some ways, 3 and a half weeks ago that she passed seems like yesterday. In other ways it seems an eternity. My father will love it and I feel the meaning will not be lost on anyone.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: I hate it when........ (12/16/2009 4:59:04 PM)

They will all love it, because they will see the meaning behind it & they all love you.

Daddysredhead -> RE: I hate it when........ (12/16/2009 5:01:49 PM)

(((((LUSHY)))))

I know what you mean all too well.

March 8, 1929 - April 3, 2005

Rest in peace, Mommy.

sunshinemiss -> RE: I hate it when........ (12/16/2009 5:01:50 PM)

Bah... You hand write your sister's birthday on the 8th, draw an arrow through the 8th to the tenth and she gets 3 days!  Like Hanukah only shorter!

CarrieO -> RE: I hate it when........ (12/16/2009 5:47:54 PM)

I hate it when I don't pay attention to my own limitations and end up having to stay off my feet for the rest of the week/end.  To be honest, I told the doctor I would take it easy but I still plan on working...no choice.

I hate that the desire to do something is there but the physical ability isn't.

sunshinemiss -> RE: I hate it when........ (12/16/2009 5:50:24 PM)

SIT YOUR ASS DOWN YOUNG LADY!

Its not the box kind of calender page. I added the dates in text above .

sunshinemiss -> RE: I hate it when........ (12/16/2009 6:05:58 PM)

lushy, honey, I hope your sister treats you with great love for doing such a beautiful thing for your family... and with a little humor and understanding that YOU ARE IN MOURNING and therefore YOU ARE NOT THINKING 100% CLEARLY.

*hugs.

dcnovice -> RE: I hate it when........ (12/16/2009 6:06:50 PM)

I take it reprinting isn't an option.

Could you correct and reprint just that one page, then paste it over the erroneous one?
