This is just like the old wives tale of microwaves changing the chemical structure of food and making it cancerous...Suddenly everyone eating microwave foods is going to come down with cancer. Studies show some adverse effects with aspartame but other studies show no effects at all. There is also not one proven case of aspartame causing a disease in a human. As for formeldihyde, did you know your body actually creates small amounts of this as a waste product? The body has the enzymes to break this down and the amount created from aspartame metabolism is miniscule. It's funny how when you look at this debate, you see people against claim it causes every disease known to man. Any anti-aspartame website on the internet will claim it causes diabetes, blindness, neuro-damage, Alzheimers, cancer, brain tumors, etc, etc, etc... the list goes on and on and on. The only actually linked adverse effects reported is headaches in a small percentage of people. But that doesn't always mean something. My mother used to get headaches triggered by chocolate. Also one has to wonder if side-effects reported by aspartame is actually from the aspartame or maybe from a more potent ingredient such as caffeine. Caffeine has been linked to headaches, irritability, nausea, high blood pressure, and could aggrivate heart issues.
