The solution is quite simple really. Provide people with complete unbiased information and let them make their own informed choices.

Thereby lies the problem: the food and drug industries refuse to publish negative research and illegally withhold findings from consumers. It makes choice difficult... that's why I say, when in doubt, don't go there.

And they tested our water and found all sorts of pharmaceuticals. And tests show bottled water aint much better than tap water either so there is no escape....

bottled water is the same as tap water..in fact most of the bottled water has zero difference...no filters...nothing..not a.... because the laws do not enforce the companies to make them any better than tap water.   it even says on some labels this very thing im saying.

Lol. Now it's a poison. Show me all the people dying from aspartame.

If I consume it I have such a bad allergic reaction since I used to drink so much of the crap in diet sodas when it was relased that it sends me to the hospital. I have to read every God Damned label. They sneak that posion and yes it is a posion. into every fucking thing.

Why dont you go eat some rat posion ( since this shit used to be ant posion) and see how you feel afterwords.

I hate it when people provide proof that this admin, and it's cronies did things ( actual proof) and you all of the same cloth dont fucking care. Well if it was a democrat getting a blow job we would shut down the whole fucking govt. and ride them out on a rail.. but getting a poison pushed through the FDA, and making money for themselves by doing it.. oh who cares.. prove it! Oh you have the proof.. well then I dont think it is a posion.. and who cares.

What a bunch of wankers.

I have reduced my intake of it.  I do think that it has tumor effects and brain effects in the long term.

...as far as consumer choice- that is a weak argument.   why- then, since we have choice is obesity and diabetis increasing?   it is getting so bad- who wants too many people on an air plane, in an elevator, or putting wear and tear on things.    the food industry fights every label law.   so- consumer decission is a weak argument.

add in the food liability for defamation laws.. after aler a chem on apples went on, the industry wrote laws that you can not diss certain foods.

-water in a bottle is a poor analogy.   besides very few ppl actualy put water in the mouth and swallow- as in 8 glasses a day.  some say they do- but not really.

hawaii growing sugar- int comment.

as to Cheney. come on.  the guy is a profitteer but i doubt so on this.

"Choice"  is a poor choice when labeling is so dismal.   however if one could set better label practice, then it could be do-able.

Hold on here, I seem to have missed something, I thought aspartame was already banned. I guess I stand corrected. See what happens when you don't watch them every minute ?

I don't have much to worry about but some do. Aspartame is not a poison when you eat it, it becomes one in your body. It breaks down into alcohols and subsequently acids. Neurotoxins in fact.

Something I read a while back explains it quite well. I can't say it is true but it would explain alot. That is that the people who own the companies that make packaged/processed food do not eat their own product.

Just another one of those things that are unprovable but make sense. But really, do you think the people on the board of directors at the McDonald's headquarters eat at McDonald's ? I doubt it.

I am going to stop now because anything further is so bomblasting it might get me thrown off here, but I will leave you with one word.

Olestra.

Find out about that, you won't like it.

You're out in left field. It wasn't even invented until 1965.

I stand corrected... but I don't care when it was invented :-) . It's still insanely bad for you.

I'm glad you don't suffer from the ill-effects of aspartame; but the one I hear of most of the time is migraines.

i already suffer severe migraines from my heart condition and high estrogen.
but it hasnt been any worse...have had them since i was born.  especially bad in teenage years.   ive only drank diet pepsi now for about 5 years...before that it was coke...regular coke...which just made me fat and main reason i shot up to 196 lbs by 1998 so i stopped pop stone cold for several years to lose weight.

I try to avoid sweeteners of any kind, although I do drink half a can of diet soda every day. I don't like the aftertaste of artificial sweeteners (even Splenda), and as a diabetic I am not supposed to eat sugar. If I want to sweeten something (like a bowl of cereal) I use Xylitol. Can't use too much of it in any one day, though; it has a laxative effect.

Another artificial sweetener is Xylitol. It's found in many types of gums. Studies show the use of this sweetener IMPROVES dental health because it kills the bacteria in the mouth that lead to tooth decay.

It amazes me that people don't just take a step back back sometimes and realize some very glaring truths like:

-inhaling smoke and ashes day in and day out for years and years is very BAD for your body.
-eating things that come out of boxes is BAD
-eating things with ingredients that have 47 letters made in a laboratory is BAD
-eating a variety of colorful foods that came directly from nature (or the slaughterhouse) is GOOD

People act like they have no common sense.. "Well duh.. If the government said it's ok to eat/drink/smoke/snort/inject then it must be ok..a duhhhhh.."

That being said, I want to make it clear that I don't actually follow the above advice.  But I wish I did..

Bossy, I really can't disagree that much.

Smoke is bad, but I smoke. I do not think it is as bad as they say, unless you have some defect or weakness. Smoke and fire have been a part of human culture for millenia.

I agree about the boxes. You never know what they are putting in there.

Forty seven letters ? I am right there withya. I am starting to gravitate towards the philosophy that if it hasn't been around for at least 100 years I don't want it. Exceptions exist, like salsa for example, but all the ingredients in it have been around, even though I never heard about it a few decades ago.

Eating what comes from nature is my goal in a way. I have to really hold back at the store when I see what people buy. What they are feeding their kids. All I can do is shut the fuck up, pay for my stuff and get out of there.

Hell if the true story of aspartame gets out they might have to bring back cyclamates. Don't pretend they care, YOU need to know what to eat. You simply cannot trust them.

What I find interesting is that in China they executed the head of their equivalent of our FDA for doing exactly what ours does every day.

Do not trust them, EVER.

If I could give up meat without wanting to murderize people, I would be right there with you.  I crave the occasional roast or steak.
