My mother is a nurse and once had a patient named Vagina, pronounced vuh-jeen-ah.

People are nuts.

xxblushesxx -> RE: Horrible baby names (3/17/2008 1:48:39 PM)

I knew a lady (a crank head) who named her daughter Tequila

petitespitfire64 -> RE: Horrible baby names (3/17/2008 1:49:33 PM)

Hey, I almost resemble that remark. My given name is Latricia.
My youngest son is named after the first of his father's family name on the contentent, so, thus, a very old fashioned name indeed, 'Theobold'. He goes by 'Teddy' so it is not so noticable.
I have worked, in child care, with children named 'Marijauna' and children named after various alcoholic beverages. As a non-drinker, I sometimes miss those and am often surprised when co-workers tell me.
There was a boy in my group last year named Paris. We were all discussing his name after work one day - he is about 7 or 8 - and I said, 'Well, I do find it a bit feminine'. All my coworkers nodded emphaticly and said, 'Yes, I have noticed, he is, isn't he?' I just glared and said, "HIS NAME! I meant HIS NAME!" ( But, really, the child was....)

Actually "Paris" is a very old European men's name. *smiles*
But, funny story nonetheless!

During my cab driving days I knew a girl named Chastity. Although outdated (the name was very popular during the Victorian era) the name isn’t really unusual. It’s just that in her case, it was very ironic.

It had a little revival in the Sonny and Cher era.

petitespitfire64 -> RE: Horrible baby names (3/17/2008 3:15:14 PM)

Oops..fprgot one..my ex saw a gynecologist named  (I SWEAR) Dr. Cucci. Pronounced...aw damn...you KNOW how.

Thumper Storm ****** was my best friend growing up and her little sister was named Beezer.Her parents were totally wild hippie artist types that lived in an creative educational community across the street from me. Heh they covered a VW bug in mink once. Had another neighbor named Gay (he was male), and I knew a girl named Jiminy.

daddysblondie -> RE: Horrible baby names (3/17/2008 3:56:53 PM)

I dated a guy once whose name was Joy To The World. His brothers are named Peace on Earth and Love. Mom was a giant hippie druggie.
Oh and the boys have two older sisters who are both named Fauna (although the oldest of the two was given that name by her mother and the youngest changed her name to that when she was about 10).

Daddyslilpookie -> RE: Horrible baby names (3/17/2008 4:17:09 PM)

When I was little I used to know a girl named Tuesday lol..

KyttynTheMynx -> RE: Horrible baby names (3/17/2008 4:21:00 PM)

The Utah Baby Namer is always good for a few hours of fun.  Spoon, and Statehood are some...odd male names, but Tugdick takes the cake.   Confederate America,  Desdedididawn,  Justa Cowgirl and  Sunday's Hossana are odd too.

We wont EVEN get started on how much I hate my name...

MistressPav -> RE: Horrible baby names (3/17/2008 4:31:32 PM)

Shanequa, LaKeesha, Tanniqua, Seqauoiah, Dre, Latronda, La Eeesha, Archer, Reagan...........

WTF are parents thinking?

Oh, and who's that stupid movie star who named her daughter "Apple"?
**rolls eyes**

My ex was a labor and delivery nurse for many years.   One of her patients named her baby girl "Female" pronounced like tomale with an accent on the e.

I wonder if this story is true?...I believe it is an urban myth. Seems that everyone who has ever worked in an emergency room has the same story.

Never worked in an emergency room but I know a young woman whose name was Female. She was a neighbor's child a while back and one day I asked her not terribly bright mother about the name. She told me she didn't know where it came from the hospital named her that. I was confused and asked her about what she meant. Eventually she went and got the girls birth certificate. For some reason a space to write the baby's sex was directly below the box for first name and whoever filled it out had written female on the wrong line. I guess she just thought the hospital got to name the baby. Eventually the girl changed her name to something else.
i too know a person legally named Female...but her whole family called her Alice.  To be fair, she was born in like 1940 to some former sharecroppers who didn't notice the mistake at first...but she let me see the birth certificate, and it's true alright...
edited to add Cheniqua is not a weird name...around my way
