boy46 -> RE: Is there any way to stop carb cravings? (3/18/2008 3:53:51 PM)

Excuseme my friend:
I dont think this is a good place to ask advice about nutrition. Perhaps there are people here with a wide knowledge about it but i would search in other sites and other specialists.
If i want an opinion about BDSM, D/s and toys and their dangers and precautions, would be nice, but nutrition is a very delicate matter. What have been acurate for a person may be not for another one. Those giving advices could think twice before doing it without a proper formation.
Even all the specialists dont agree in all questions. Some will say you that eat carbs its a good thing (naturists) and other arent of this opinion seeing it as the root of almost all illness (low carb diets), other will advice you about raw food or juices, and others prefer vitamins and food suplements (Othomolecular medicine). And ALL will give you scienticists arguments.
Anyway, in my opinion, one have to search and read, and perhaps making little changes in our nutrition to see wich work better in our body, the only thing is truelly ours.
For an example i will past two web sites that make defence of very contrary opinions wich is very interesting.
http://curezone.com/
and http://www.quackwatch.com/ where suposely frauds and quacks are detected. But surely they could be themselves too in their web :)

Good luck ;)

Twelve carbs is too few to sustain a healthy person.  If you are craving, it's because your body is screaming that something is wrong.  And something is.  You might want to try a more reasonable diet and be happy with slower weight loss (which more often equates with permanent weight loss).

Boy46,

The title of this forum is Off Topic DISCUSSION.  We are discussing nutrition. DISCUSSING. We are not laying down the law to anyone...pounding our fists on our respective computer desks and saying "This is how you will eat!!!"

And i can't help but wonder about your comment "there are people here with a wide knowledge about it but i would search in other sites". Perhaps YOU, young man, should take your own advice and search elsewhere...can't have anyone that is not a professional giving you bad advice...now can you?

Have a sunshiney day.

As holly said, large amounts of protein, if you ALREADY HAVE damaged kidneys, MAY further weaken them. But, even then, I'm seeing some docs that are beginning to disagree with that.

Level,
I have heard the debate over a high protein intake with existing renal failure. One thing they do agree on is a high protein intake will alter the Creatinine level, abit on a temporary basis, making it look as if the patient has lost more kidney function.

Hey there. I do believe you're correct, and, if my foggy memory isn't failing me, strenous exercise too close to blood tests can cause false readings, too.

Here's an interesting paper on kidneys and low carb nutrition:

I would politely disagree, Tracy. There is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate.

That doesn't mean no one should ever eat a carb again [X(]; I'm just saying....

sirsholly -> RE: Is there any way to stop carb cravings? (3/18/2008 4:13:43 PM)

excellent article Level...thanks so much!!!!!

sirsholly -> RE: Is there any way to stop carb cravings? (3/18/2008 4:21:38 PM)

Dollparts,

If you read the article posted by level, under the heading of Case Study (4th paragraph down), you will see that the advised carb intake for this patient was 80-90 g. The carb, fat and protein ratio 20-50-30.

Now please...this is just one patient mentioned in an article. In no way is this the norm for everyone. But this sounds to me like a much more healthy carb intake than the 12g you told TracyTaken you had consumed.

Yup... i see it as being a lot like religion. There are a thousand different plans, they all tout themselves as The Answer, and it would be utterly impossible for them all to be right. You won't know which one IS actually right until it's too late. So do what makes sense. If your body wants carbs, there's probably a reason. Frankly, i prefer carbs... that fuel injection shit is just too confusing.

So, short answer... Atkins is dead, have some bread! [:)]

Dr Atkins claimed his diet was a chol lowering, heart smart plan.

Dr Atkins died of a heart attack.

No, he did not.

Level -> RE: Is there any way to stop carb cravings? (3/18/2008 4:49:49 PM)

Low carb IS heart healthy, far moreso than the sugary, carb-laden, unnatural diet the AMA touts. It is devastatingly effective in reducing triglycerides, boosting HDL, and improving cholesterol ratios, which are far more indicative of heart health than the outdated tests many doctors still use today.

hang on...gotta look this up

camille65 -> RE: Is there any way to stop carb cravings? (3/18/2008 4:50:45 PM)

He had heart problems, he isn't dead

Level -> RE: Is there any way to stop carb cravings? (3/18/2008 4:53:11 PM)

He is dead, he slipped on an icy sidewalk and struck his head; he went into a coma, and his organs shut down, and that is what killed him.

He had a viral infection in his heart, NOT diet related.

Level...i am not saying a low carb diet is a bad thing. But....if you have a green veggie with lunch and dinner you are looking at 15-20 carbs for both meals. Sometimes people go overboard and try to have NO carbs at all, just protein.

What the OP stated to TracyTaken was she ate 12 whatevers, at one carb each, totalling 12 carbs for the day. She sure was not talking about brussel sprouts.
