ORIGINAL: Level Low carb IS heart healthy, far moreso than the sugary, carb-laden, unnatural diet the AMA touts. It is devastatingly effective in reducing triglycerides, boosting HDL, and improving cholesterol ratios, which are far more indicative of heart health than the outdated tests many doctors still use today. Level...i am not saying a low carb diet is a bad thing. But....if you have a green veggie with lunch and dinner you are looking at 15-20 carbs for both meals. Sometimes people go overboard and try to have NO carbs at all, just protein. What the OP stated to TracyTaken was she ate 12 whatevers, at one carb each, totalling 12 carbs for the day. She sure was not talking about brussel sprouts. And I didn't mean to sound like I was jumping down anyone's throat, holly. I apologize if it came across that way. I eat between 20 and 35 total carbs a day, and I stand by the assertation that there is no such thing as an essential carb. I'm diabetic, and by doing so, have lost over 110 pounds, and completely gotten off all my meds. Having said that, I'd also say that most folks would benefit hugely from just knocking their carbs to under 100 total a day, maybe down to 75 or so.....well, as long as they got them from fresh foods, that is. We're all different..... high five you for your weight loss!!! And i was in no way offended. My problem with low carb diets is some think of carbs only as the white flour foods, cookies, potatoes, etc. So they eliminate them and begin to lose weight. THEN they find out veggies are carbs too and, hey...I lost weight by eliminating THOSE carbs, so I will go whole hog and get rid of all of them. then their hair falls out.
