The most common phrase heard at all of the parent/teacher conferences my parents attended because of me.

"LeeAnn is such a smart girl. If only she would apply herself."

I hated school and my grades reflected that. Mostly B's and C's. A's in things I actually liked. The occasional D when I thought the teacher was a moron. Mr. Harter, 7th grade biology. I got a D one quarter just to spite him for pissing me off.

And my mother called me stubborn.....baahhhhhhh!

They probably only called you stubborn because you knew what you wanted ;-).

i heard comments like that all through school as well LaT.   School bored me, so i got grades sufficient to pass and be done with HS.  Just to prove a point one semester i actually applied myself and got straight A's, after which much to the chagrin of my teachers, student counselor and mother, i went back to my C average.   bleh, if they really wanted me to learn they would at least have made an attempt to make classes more interesting and challenging.

i came to the point where i simply said thank you when i was called stubborn.

Exactly! They said stubborn like it was a bad thing! Like somehow that is supposed to motivate you. If they wanted to motivate us they should have done something to challenge us mentally, interest us, make us care.

Now I look back and think, how frustrating students like me must be for a teacher. My kids were the very same way, and one of my younger brothers. Very very bright, just bored with school. The motivational tactics that worked on most kids had no effect on us, except to push us further the other way.

breast sizes can play a part...

A=NERD
B=Overacheiver
C=Screws the teacher
D=Screws the principal

Awww.. you left me out! EE.... I didnt screw any body at school... I went directly onto business men. LOL  I am with LaT.. I developed early.. I had a generous C cup by 3rd grade. ( yeah it sucked big time) It all just kinda grew from there. I was not obese or anything I just sprouted like an adult. In 3rd grade I was 5'6 in a womens size 7 shoes and a C cup. My mom threatened to lock me away to keep all the perverts away from me. ( smart woman... but I had very little childhood  and it didnt help anyways )

I do not think your body size or type determines how smart you are.. that is just nonsense. ~ even if the study is slanted to say I am smarter. (my chest is 11 inches bigger then my waist, and my hips are 10 inches bigger then my waist. I am an hourglass.. just a larger then I would like one.) I know my IQ.. and it has nothing to do with how the fat and muscles are lined up in my body but with how my mother cared about my education from an early age and how I continued it.

Too funny, Gwyn!  I thought the same thing when I first read that little chart...where's the part for the girls who were fucking the real men already?

I wouldn't worry about it. I just wish they'd conduct studies on the correlation between the length of men's shlongs and their IQs. Or between the size of their balls and how far up they climb on the social ladder. That kind of shit.

It would be interesting to find out if there was a link  .

My point is: WHY are women seemingly the only subjects of such useless studies?

Perhaps the question to ask is:

Could curvy men be more intelligent?

These kinds of studies and the subsequent news reporting absolutely infuriate me; the vast majority of the time these claims are false upon review, but that will never be reported down the road.  This immediately strikes me as one of those things after reviewing the details of the study I could find, as the methodology seems extremely sketchy and biased.  "Attempting to prove what you already believe..." seems to be likely here.

To be fair, I have seen things that were less intelligent, but most of the people invovled with them are now dead, usually through their own doing.

Here are some key points:

- The variance in intelligence between these two groups is well within the expected variance for the intelligence tests they are using; when your variance bounds contains the zero value, this means you have not achieved a statistically significant result, even if it trends in one direction.

- The sample size is extremely small (in comparison to the population of women), non-representative (ie, not a random sample), and time limited.  I would suggest that all they have established, even if the findings are statistically significant, is that "among a small biased group in the following timeframe, the following oddity appears..."

- Lacking repetition is a fatal flaw for the vast majority of studies; if you give me a single set of data, I can find all sorts of fantastic correlations, but this does not demonstrate causation.  It may be (and in fact probably is) random chance.  Without independent testing and verification, one should be very, very skeptical of claims in any study.

One of my favorite papers to cite, because it really agitates the people who make these kinds of claims, can be found here:

http://medicine.plosjournals.org/perlserv/?request=get-document&doi=10.1371/journal.pmed.0020124&ct=1

In short: disbelieve studies that have not been repeated and expanded upon with rigorous attempts to disconfirm them, or which are in fields where there are significant amounts of bias.  You are very likely to be correct.

Real sweetie:  You're real serious and all.  That's not gonna get you laid. Tell the curvy chick how smart she is, that'll do it.
