I happened to be in a chat room the other day, when someone said something about gay marriage. I stated I did not believe "marriage" should be available for homosexuals. I was immediately attacked, booted and called a homo-phobe.

Alrighty then, I'll bite...  *Why* don't you believe marriage should be available for homosexuals?

Your statement doesnt make you homophobic. It does make you clueless. When in rome, so to speak. Having an opinion and knowing when to share it is a valuable trait. You might not believe that marriage should be allowed between same sex partners. That IS your opinion. You might not agree that people should be proud of their heritage and keep it in their chosen titles when they refer to themselves. That again is your right. HOWEVER, having the tact to keep it to yourself rather than run the risk of insulting someone is a talent you might want to aquire.
Personally, I have several ideas that would not be popular if discussed. I do not agree with the majority opinion but I know when to keep that to myself unless directly asked. And even then, when directly asked , unless in a private one on one conversation. I know how to sugar coat.

IF you were in a private chat room and the wner was offended by your opinion, it is within their right to kick you and not allow you back in. IF you were the owner you might have reacted differently, but you cant say if you would or not. So, brush off, and move on.

why does it always have to be 2 men??? why not 2 women???? more and more gay women are coming out and getting married... im in a country that allows gay marriage.

Think about it faery... a large percentage of guys find girl on girl action hot, but ask those same guys drooling over lesbians what they think of guy on guy action...    (yes, i was speaking in general, i do realize not all men get excited over girl on girl sex...)

America should be a country where we have the right to choose, not a country where we absolutely must agree 100% with the masses. I think one country already tried that it kinda failed remember stalin? Hitler? Marx? they tried the same thing. Anyway respect my right to disagree with you and I will respect your right to practice as you see fit im not against homosexuality im against homosexuals saying you must accept me. Well fact of the matter is you accept my right to not accept you and i will accept your right to hate me for bein a bigotted racist. Otherwise this becomes a country where only the homosexuals have rights and freedoms the rest of us "normal" ppl (whatever that means) can only live by what the homosexuals legislate we can live by.

PS dont jump on the normal word in the post i know it will be hard but what a person in a BDSM lifestyle considers normal is usually an act of prostitution under most states laws so dont pick out the normal word and say "what is normalcy" {In my best Mr. Garrison voice}

What?..

*shakes head*

I will try reading that again.

But, just for the record, how does giving someone the same opportunity for happiness in life that you have infringe on your rights?

*edited to add* When I get flogged, caned or waxed it's prostitution now? Huh.
Oh, HoneyMaster...you owe me some dollahs...

I wont jump on the word normal but i will jump on everything else, how can you in the same sentence criticise Stalin and Hitler and go on to say you wont accept people/ (oh and by the way Marx was a theorist he didnt 'try' anything he had ideas, which is where communism comes from)

I dont like fundementalists of many things, I dont like the protesting and stuff that seems to me to be saying i want to be MORE than equal a lot of the time. I DO believe in equality but i think sometimes people go about it the wrong way, by with one voice screaming we want to be treated the same and the other "brothers and sisters unite" they encouraging the idea of differance, thats where the problem comes in. You cant have both in my view, I always liked this quote "the woman on the bus tutting that no one has given her their seat is the same woman screaming about equal rights"

Equality gives people the same rights, no more no less, this means NOT seeing the differance, unfortunatly people find that very hard. I dont really think I understand what you were saying,  how can you say you have no problem with them in the same breath as saying that you dont want them to ask for acceptance, acceptence doesnt infringe on your rights non-acceptance infringes on theirs.

Added for clarity:To the OP .

Why exactly are you against men marrying men and women marrying women?

What are your reasons for feeling this way?

What are the drawbacks to society and/or to those gays getting married? Be specific.

Archer is correct, one needs to know what`s in your heart to know if you`re homophobic or not.

I dont view it as special rights.  I view the government  trying to void contracts between 2 adults as mean.

alot of folks are against gay marriage.     if all men are created equal- then it would not matter who could marry whom.  So the notion that only opposite sex folks can marry- means one or the other is lesser of a man, in not inherantly equal.

no one is going to force a man to marry a man.  it doesn happen. nor does anyone ever "turn" gay.

as for myself- i am a "i get along with everybody" member of my block.  Nothing gay- as in emblems or flags are on my person or house.   It is not relevent to me being a good neighbor.  Some would guess a brick thrown thru my window as this is red necked area.
nope. live and let live.   the neighbors have come to know i bark about life- rant- then i cool off.  they are ok with it.  They know that if one of them is in need- or myself in need- we can help one another.  what i do in my private bedroom is not relevent.

i dont get questions as to why no femail. nor have i said i am gay.

they see that i plant flowers in my yard, keep my property up, and mind my own business. Ive sent cookies over- a dinner or 2 over,  it is all good.

keep your household, cars, guests in reasonable order- and we all get along.      I promise!

Nice to see there are other hate-mongers here like me. Many good points here on the board. My point was, that there was no discussion upon my disagreement. I was immediately accused of gay-bashing. Makes me wonder, if your that sensitive to legitimate points of view, perhaps your having trouble justifying your own position.

Why is it the small minded majority is unable to make a rational argument. They resort to name calling instead of soaking up some knowledge and different perspectives. This is the downfall of what was once a great country. So much for the sharing of thoughts and ideas and cultures.

Perhaps we should seize an empty mexican town and start Collarmeville. Oh there I go bashing the mexicans...I need help

i dont feel the need to call you anything. there are personal preferences for legal issues in civil rights. i believe that love is equal and anyone in love should have the marriage option open.
unless you are calling gays themselves by bad names or beating them up in public then i dont see you as being homophobic....

just my two cents

Actually, there have been several well-thought out, reasonable arguments for gay marriage. If there was any name calling, I missed it. And if there was that is unfortunate.
As I've said in other hotly contested debates; make a rational argument, and then I will respond. Then YOU can respond to what I said...
*whispers* that's how this debate thing works.
