Big story a while ago -- apparently it contains several factual errors.  Teachers choosing to show it to their classes now have to preface it with the disclaimer that it is not entirely accurate.

Which is a shame, because I believe the intent behind the film was good... just that someone's fact checker wasn't entirely on the ball.

Really, is it that important for Hollywood to make historically accurate movies? As long as there's  entertainment, who cares if there weren't any real charging rhinos when the Spartans fought their war? And if the Scots didn't really flash their backsides, THAT was damn funny and maybe they should have!

The Patriot was really bad.... it made the British look like Nazis...

It brushed up the Swamp Fox a bunch but the Revolutionary war in the Carolinas and Georgia was a nasty war in a way not usually presented in the history books. Partisans on both sides took to burning out communities on the other side.

Nothing wrong with entertainment but when people assume it to be fact there is. Also why do they use the term 'based on a true story' if they arn't going to be true to history? It’s disingenuous.

Mind you Fargo says based on true events at the start of it, their argument being that the entire film is fiction therefore they can say what they want,

However when films lead to people having huge misconceptions then its not so good, esp as we are always the bloody bad guys

I am so fucking disappointed in all of you. There is only ONE correct answer:

"The Neverending Story"

Actually I know this is a slight diversion but I find that film ‘Little Man’ disturbing rather than funny.

Oh god I just thought of another one: The Exorcist . That was supposedly based on a true story.

True story my arse - they fished that one straight out of a drunk priest's undies.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

"The Texas Chainsaw Masscre" was also said to be based on a true story.

The good Shepard, I can’t take any film seriously with Jason Bourne in.
