Of course, just because someone has "done" something in real life doesn't mean they're any good at it.

But at least it puts them one up over a jerk off with a computer and a box of kleenexes.

It can, if they have any competency; some are hopeless.

I woud say that one does have to do, in order to have a chance at being an "expert". Someone can type "thwap thwap thwap" all day long, I guess they can become good typists.

LP has the right idea-it does make perfect-or nearly so.

Well, I was going to say practice, but I thought that might be too simplistic of an answer.

Simple can be good, LP. And true.

I recall an idea that was shared to me some time ago....

There is two ways to be the King of the hill.......

One is to proclaim oneself as King.... and some will laugh... some will push you off your hill and then some just might bow down.

Two is to be proclaimed King.

I think Being called an Expert is much the same thing.   We proclaim it or we are proclaimed.  However, what causes use to proclaim or be proclaimed an expert is going to be rather subjective to the situation.

I'll settle for being king of my hearth and home; the ones on the hills usually get shot at.

As we all know theres a few options we can take when updating/creating our profile.  One of which is "expert" now what qualifies one to be an "expert"? I mean technically I'm an "expert" at political science since its my minor in school and know more so than the average person, and will have my degree to prove it, but theres no degree that comes with collars and watersports so my question is how do you know when youre an "expert" in a bdsm activity? Since Im young I hope to reach that status in multiple catergories by 35

I am not an expert, but when I am happy and my girl is happy...then it is enough.

I think there is too much emphasis put on what appears to be a short coming on this site.  There are nine selections we can make for each interest, but only three for experience.  Imagine you only have three alternatives for representing your appearance, "Ugly", "Uglier" or "Turn out the lights".  I would suspect most of us would choose "Ugly", but would prefer there be other choices.  So I think most people selecting "Expert" only do so because there is nothing else that is more appropriate they can choose from for particular interest.  I too was amused at lets say biking which I like a lot and there was an appropriate category for that, but am I an expert? I am definitely not a beginner or average, so my only other option is to select "Expert".  Now put me in the mix with professional racers, then I would be real stretch that I'm a beginner.

I quite frankly don't agree with any of this--even the person who graduates last in medical school is called Doctor and 99% of the time we have to tell the Dr's how to treat our illnesses---just because someone knows more than the "average" person or has a degree IMHO doesn't make them an expert at anything--more book learning maybe--but there will always be someone with more smarts who is more "expert"---

as for the life---there are people that are publically recognized that I feel are expert, then there are some that are publically recognized that I would not cross the street for---

as for here, I find the majority of experts are expert in not being honest in their profiles.

I think I posted this before when the topic of "Expert" was examined.
If after observing you, people ask you to teach a subject to them or their group, I think expert is defendable.
But it's hardly a word I would pick out of the air, wish there was some other word choices when it comes to that.

At some point in my earlier existence, I was only an 'expert...'

Through the years I grew/progressed to the point where many people consider me 'experienced.'

Which would YOU rather be?

I saw a profile some weeks back where the guy listed he was an expert in have the things he had under "stuff I hate". That one's confusing me no end. Why would a top who hated watersports(for example) take the time to fully learn about and explore reactions to this?

Celeste... I have listed as expert a few things I detest (bondage, for instance).  the reason is this: I've done it often enough to know that I DO NOT LIKE IT AT ALL.

Listing something as expert doesn't necessarily mean it's something you LIKE.

maybe having some sort of comfort level in doing said activity?
like, ive been doing beadwork for 25 years, ill call myself an expert.
doing it once or twice or reading extensively about it might not qualify you
as an expert, yanno?

ive seen longggggggggg lists on some profiles, where almost everything is checked
'expert', all at the age of 30. im not saying it couldnt be true,
but i aint tryin to find out! those kind of egos make me wanna tell someone
about themselves, but im evil like that ;) (and oh so good at it- must be an expert lol)
