I read every e-mail I get. I answer all unless it is someone who I've already told I am not interested.  I enjoy receiving mail, but hate to be pestered.

If I had pages of emails in my inbox, I'd probably have to resort to deleting a portion of them unread. It would make me unhappy to do so, as I was brought up to reply to correspondence. I even hate using those "quick reply" buttons, and even when I do I can't resist the temptation to stick in a quick little personal word or two. I have filters in place, but I still open even the bulk mail. I'm hopeless.

OTOH, initial emails that look like boiler-plate, Nigerian 419 scams, or those infamous one- or two-liners? Dump-de-dump-dump. (Except the one who said only "hi" - I was feeling snarky, and I responded, "Cat got your tongue?" I did live to regret that one.)

Personally, if I look at someone's profile, and I find it completely and totally distasteful, I wont bother reading their message. I have deleted a few messages unread when they have been from people who are declaring their love of being human toilets (a personal hell no turn off or me) or ones who start out by telling me what I will be doing to or for them.
Just about everyone else I'll read, even if I dont respond.

I will delete emails unread fro someone who has been badgering me, and whom I have already told not to cntact me again as well.

Even if you are not interested, a " no thanks" would be in order.  I've had replys that just say "Not interested...."  It's better than no feedback at all.

It really doesn't matter why your message was deleted unread as there can be dozens of reasons.  As i can not read minds i do not know which of the those dozens of reasons was "the reason" for your message being deleted unread.  The message sent by the receiver of your message is very clear.....Not Interested.

If someone emailed me months before and forgot that they already hit on me, I delete it unread.  Nothing is more irritating than getting mail from the same members every few months.

No, I don't think so.  If someone is rude enough to send sexually explicit emails and photos to my inbox as their first introduction, they really do not deserve the courtesy of ANY reply.  I'm not interested in encouraging their behavior whatsoever.  My profile is pretty clear on the "friendly introductions only" stipulation, and if your first act right off the bat is to ignore and disrespect my boundaries, I don't owe you anything except a block/ignore/delete.  Or maybe a "fuck off and die if you can't learn that waving your dick in somebody's face is not a polite introduction", but even that is really giving them too much of your time and energy.

I agree anyone who takes the time to compose a polite, thoughtful message deserves the courtesy of a reply even if it is "no thank you".  The problem is that almost nobody actually does that; they just send wank fantasies and dick pictures.  They are not owed any more courtesy than a random flasher accosting you on the street.

I delete unread if I've already said no thanks.... and if I've opened a previous mail to find a cock facing me! Or worse.... I dont respond to hi, or how are you type messages cos they obviously havent read my profile. Even a few words relating to my profile or journal warrents a response.

if i delete your message unread, here's why:
a. you didn't read my profile which states not currently looking
b. your profile and/or interests don't seem compatible to me
c. i've replied once stating "thanks but no thanks" and you send another reply back
d. it was sent to my bulk mail and i just don't feel like being bothered (or see A)

Screen names like "sub2serveMistress" or "footslave" are at moderate risk of being deleted unread and high risk if they contain a photo, because I'm not interested in talking to one-dimensional people who are only presenting themselves in a sexual/kinky context rather than introducing themselves as real human beings.

Hey now!    Actually I couldn't think of anything else when I set up this profile.  I'd like to change my screen name, but of course we can't do that.  I don't want to set up a new account, because I'd lose my postings.  But I do understand where you're coming from.  I don't have a particular affinity for women calling themselves "ballbustingbitch"  or the like.  I won't waste my time with people that send inappropriate photos when they email me either.  I generally suspect it's a young man or psychopath having his jollies.

I disagee with this position.  Not opening an email and deleting unread isn't any different than tossing away spam.  If you aren't interested, you just aren't.  Seems plain enough to me. I have had a few of my emails go unread.  Should I be pouting?  Is there a payback for me if I do?

Yep, that's pretty much it.  People who present themselves in a "fantasy persona" rather than as normal adult human beings are generally either a) not normal adult human beings or b) not interested in relating to other people as anything but cardboard cut-out props for their fantasies.   The notion that some stranger might think of himself as a "slave boy for me" strikes me as unrealistic and more than a little creepy.  Most likely I'll avoid any interaction since it looks like he wants to use me as a sort of prop for his fantasy of being "my" slave boy.  That kind of email can go in the plonk file since that is not a game I consent to play.

That assumption may well not describe you personally, but it is the immediate impression I get from seeing the screen name, and it really does describe the majority of the interactions I've had with male so-called subs who choose those kinds of handles.  I don't think I'm alone in this boat either.  Sucks to be you, I guess, since changing your name isn't really do-able on CM.

Of course if you can get to know someone in a public place like these forums, they will be able to see past the one-dimensional screen name.  It's going to be harder to get to know people in any other venue if your screen name makes them suspicious that you're a wanking creep and they don't bother to read your message.  Since your email may be one among a great many unsolicited requests, most of which really will be annoyingly rude and vulgar, your chances of it being read diminish significantly with a screen name that will remind a domme of all the other stupid propositions from strangers that she's already read and deleted today.  "Oh ghod, not yet ANOTHER useless fantasy wanker begging to be my slave without even knowing me....  *delete*  *block*  *ignore*"

If you gor a metric fuckton of just that on a regular basis, and some of it is explicitly squicksome on the details of stuff that is not even your kink, complete with pictures, you'd probably start deleting emails too.  Welcome to the world of having a female profile on an adult site.

I delete the ones that don't meet my criteria.  If, when I read their profile, they come as rude hateful, uneducated or mention bestiality, kp or anything like that, then I delete them.

I got on a few days ago from a guy whose journal was all about how all the most of the dommes on here are 'overweight and beyond' & want to know  'how so many people can be so rude and not even able to give a simple reply of not interested as " dommes" on this site are to sold on themselves and coldhearted for him to even dream of submitting, serving and having any LTR with'.

What do you suppose his email would have been like?

I’ve seen many people on here who ask for “non-cookie cutter” or “personal” type messages, rather than a “form letter”.  This is, of course, totally reasonable, and I have for the most part strived to be specific and personal in my communications.

Yeh that way they know you spent lots of time writing before they hit the delete button.

I delete without reading if I see an obscene/explicit/kink specific screen name, particularly if there's a photo attachment.  I already know what it's a picture of, and I really don't need to see another one.

Wow, you know in advance without opening, reading or viewing what every picture sent to you is. That's impressive.

When the guy's screen name is something like BindMyCock, Hard9Inches, LuvCBT, PornoSexSlut or OneEyedWillyWonderWorm, yeah, I already know what the picture is of and I don't wanna see it.

Or the guy whose profile says he gets off on showing women his tiny wee wee and having them point and laugh at him.  Three guesses what kind of unsolicited pictures he is sending.   Since he forgot the minor little detail of getting a play partner's consent first, I'm not scening with him.
