Exogenous – the name of one of my favorite race horses, a beautiful and talented filly. I had never heard the word, exogenous, before knowing this filly. When I looked this word up in the dictionary I liked it, even more. a. of plants, (as the dicotyledons) having stems that grow by the addition of an annual layer of wood to the outside beneath the bark. I was reminded of the movie, Shrek, where he describes people being like onions in the sense that layers can be peeled back to reveal the real person…and (hopefully) doesn’t leave them crying but brings a wonderful flavor to one’s life. b. externally caused rather than resulting from conditions within the organism. It's interesting to learn how/why folks react to experiences “externally caused” in their lives (myself included); specifically the way those experiences influence (positively or negatively) their reactions and (internal) growth.
