Sanity -> McCain: "We need more white people" (4/9/2008 5:54:51 AM)

Actually it was Michelle Obama's handlers at a campaign event.

[sarcasm]

That makes it alright.

[/sarcasm]

"We need more white people over here"

pahunkboy -> RE: McCain: "We need more white people" (4/9/2008 6:06:02 AM)

tisk tisk on the misleading title here.

she is correct.

However, I will be voting for Hillary.  She can beat McCain. A vote for her is a vote for "mom".  For everything that  is run amuck per the USA, a WOMAN is uniquely qualified to resolve the countries problems.

Obama  makes a good speech,  but he isnt a "mom".

To my mom, my gram, my sister, my aunts, to woman everywhere, their turn has come; and I will pull the lever for that.  Besides; governance cant be worse then it currently is.

Hate me for laying out the logic this way.   I dont always agree with mom, but I know she has talent- to see all sides, and to make a good decission, day in and day out.

yay for moms!!

That's right, handlers controling who sits behind a candidate's wife is the root of all evil. NOT!

Sanity -> RE: McCain: "We need more white people" (4/9/2008 6:15:58 AM)

Unless it really is a Republican saying it, of course. Right?

I've never said anything remotely like that so stop trying to put words in my mouth.

While the crowd was indeed diverse, some students at the event questioned the practices of Mrs. Obama’s event coordinators, who handpicked the crowd sitting behind Mrs. Obama. The Tartan’s correspondents observed one event coordinator say to another, “Get me more white people, we need more white people.” To an Asian girl sitting in the back row, one coordinator said, “We’re moving you, sorry. It’s going to look so pretty, though.”

Thaty's silly, I'm not putting words in your mouth, I'm making a point and you are avoiding it. So I'll ask you again, more directly - had it been a Republican campaign event, would your reaction have been the same?

Have you one standard, or two?

RealityLicks -> RE: McCain: "We need more white people" (4/9/2008 6:25:56 AM)

There's nothing sinister in framing the shot so it shows general diversity among the attendees.  You're being a little naive if you think only this candidate does this.

kittinSol -> RE: McCain: "We need more white people" (4/9/2008 6:27:10 AM)

Do you think it's naivety or wishful thinking?

Sanity -> RE: McCain: "We need more white people" (4/9/2008 6:27:50 AM)

That's acceptable to you then. "We need more white people over here."

I think Sanity has belied his name just a touch on this occasion!  Maybe he's in the mood for a little baiting, hence putting McCain in the title...

kittinSol -> RE: McCain: "We need more white people" (4/9/2008 6:29:32 AM)

What specie of tree are you standing next to on your avatar pic, Sanity?

More than acceptable - that's the job.  If they weren't there and the shot had to be composited with CG or something, I'd have problems with it.

xBullx -> RE: McCain: "We need more white people" (4/9/2008 6:34:31 AM)

I hope this post of yours is a jest meant to be as misleading as the thread title, if not:

This is the most ridiculous post I have read as for a reason to vote for a particular candidate. Come on pa, surely you are looking at more than the absence of a penis or the inclusion of mamory glands. It's time for a woman? Aren't we supposed to be looking for the best candidate? What difference does gender have in that? This comment is as absurd as someone saying we aren't ready for a woman.

So it can't get worse aye? I'm saying it can. Before we elected this last Bush, at least we weren't openly catching him in any lies. Now lies get dismissed as if they were no big deal. The ole everyone lies so let's settle for the one that lies their way through it the best is appauling. The easiest way to tell if HillBillary is lying to to look and see if her lips are moving. Her Hubby lied under oath and she is making a campaign platform based on exageration and lies.

As far as everything running amuck, I think you are spending to much time chasing after chicken little and spending to little time shutting him up. We all share in the mess this coutry has become and making decisions like the one you have listed is part of the reason for that.

Try studying, evaluting their records on your own, take all the time you have provided and actaully wait until your primary date or November before you profess to make these poorly conceived decisions.

Again I hope your post was a jest, I wasn't of the opinion that your were this simple minded.

kittinSol -> RE: McCain: "We need more white people" (4/9/2008 6:35:04 AM)

Imagine Sanity's reaction if the pictures had shown mostly black people at the meeting in question. The outrage!

Sanity -> RE: McCain: "We need more white people" (4/9/2008 6:40:53 AM)

It's a cedar tree, and it's in the Hoh rain forest in NW Washington State. There are also world record spruce and fir trees there, much of the area is completely undisturbed  wilderness.

RealityLicks -> RE: McCain: "We need more white people" (4/9/2008 6:42:12 AM)

Well, that's right, kittin.  A fairly neutral report of something I can assure you is standard practice is suddenly the height of manipulation.  Crazy.

When the news interviews an "expert" and you see a full bookcase behind them, they usually had to drag said expert's chair over. Its just how pictures are made in a society rich in images and soundbites, a visual shorthand that underlines the words.

"We need more white people over here"

I fail to see what the issue is. So she wanted more white people in the photograph shot; politics is not the only venue that employs this technique. I attended a fund raising event in Alabama several years ago that addressed the increase of African Americans in colleges. As a photographer, I made it a point to include as many African American’s in the photo shoot as I possibly could; as well as making sure that other nationalities were captured. It’s good business to enhance that which is trying to be emphasized.

Sanity -> RE: McCain: "We need more white people" (4/9/2008 6:47:19 AM)

It's not a mere photo-op, it's a speech. They arrange their audiences by color??? That's racist. They're proving almost daily that they're the exact opposite of colorblind, and that bothers me, and it should bother you too. It's not just this one thing, it's this one thing in the context of Obama's racist "spiritual teacher" and his obscenely racist rantings, Obama calling his grandmother a "typical white woman", Michelle Obama saying she's never been proud of America until her husband became a contender for the Democratic nomination...

There's a clear pattern here and if this were a republican campaign the reaction would be apoplectic.
