Breaking an ankle is much scarier!  People get freaked out by the strangest things.  Best thing to do if it doesnt seem like something for you is, dont do it.
LOL I cant even imagine what people might say about pics with knife play.
Kyst

they would freak out even more at the half a roll of papper towels soaked with my blood from a cutting scene that i did last year (sorry to the blood drinkers out there, that wasn't part of the cutter's kink, and it was a scarification ritual for me at the time)

i would suspect that the noose that one of my former play partners had around my neck, pulling tight and then releasing, pulling tight and then releasing... while he was fucking me from behind was much more dangerous than the ropes in the pictures in the OP...but i am just guessing...and i didn't care, it was amazing...

i have done predicament bondage with a noose around my neck. It was not breath play - the noose was tight enough to feel it, tight enough to feel it when i tried to move, ect, but was not obstructing my breathing at all. (not that i am saying don't do breath play, just describing personal experience here). i was standing on my tiptoes in an open closet ( a closet with no door, in a motel room). The Dom in question was lying on the hotel bed watching TV, with a good view of me. i had a good view of myself in a mirror :).
He tested the closet bar before he tied me - not to make sure it was strong enough to hold me, as he would have done for suspension or, really, most bondage. To make sure it wasn't. It gave with the slightest amount of weight pressure applied by him, and he put it back. He tied me with a knot very much like Sailing Bum described. If i had stumbled - even if i just had to put my foot forward and catch myself, and never really even fell - the result would have been one good whack across the back with the closet bar, probably not nearly as hard as i was hit at other times that weekend.

Lynnxz - you can stand in ballet slippers! Are you serious? How do you DO that? We have a pair, i love wearing them, but i would love to make Master's eyes fall out of his head by actually walking - even a few shaky baby steps - in them!

Hehe, I have to be helped up (they go over my knee) and then I just kind of teeter there like a retard... I can't go anywhere. X-D

I'd love to be able to walk in them as well, maybe some practice is in order. [&:]

Poetryinpain -> RE: Does this worry anyone else? (4/10/2008 8:49:16 AM)

It didn't worry me - it looked staged and cheesy. It squicked me, because I don't like anything even resembling breath play, but it was just a staged scene, and not well done, IMO.

Ballet slippers? You are obviously not talking about the ballet slippers I am thinking about.

pip, watched my sisters in ballet slippers, and they could walk just fine

Ballet Boots.

Yum!

Okay have to put my two cents in. I'm pretty sure that this site is run by the people who used to run insex. I'm sure I'll hear about it if I'm wrong lol. IF that's true then I know the scenes are generally genuine because they used to do live feeds, and I've seen a girl on there safe word and I've seen after care so I assume they are safe responsible people (yes I know that's not everything that goes into being responsible). Everyone always says 'safe, sane, consensual' but a lot of people are into more of a 'risk aware consensual' mind frame. So if you are okay with a noose being tied around your neck knowing you could potentially hang yourself then to each their own. As far as people trying it we see car ads everyday we don't worry about people going out and trying it, I just saw a guy on tv jump off a building but hey everything was covered in bubble wrap so no harm, if you're dumb enough to jump off a building then well ... need I say more.

I think though not knowing who is doing a scene and what's involved just from a picture it could seem worth concern so I think it's a valid thing to bring up.

FRSguy -> RE: Does this worry anyone else? (4/10/2008 9:21:56 AM)

Dosnt bother me at all.  I use to be heavy into photography and the best photos I have ever taken of a woman was extream bondage scenes but like it has been mentioned before it is so easy to fake a bondage photo. Erasing things like lines used for safty is a sinch to do.

Even if the scene was not faked and it was compleatly real that really still is not that much cause for concern. I can honestly say that I have done equal or worse to subs especially when it comes to suspention however everything is carefully planned in advanced with safty in mind.  Also, there is a certain showman ship that goes between the sub and the Dom durring a complicated bondage scene. There is more of a concern of how the sub is perceieving the danger of the situation. Its very easy to create the illusion for the sub that if she makes one slip its curtains so to speak and with the verbal taunting added to the mix you can pretty much control her experience (my subs a woman by the way so sorry all of this is so gender specific).  Its also just as easy to create feelings of security.

What you get from viewing a photograph is nothing like it really is.  Its kind of like any other kind of art. The artist is trying to project a feeling on you and has plenty of tools to do it with. The fact that the artists involved pryed heavily on your feeling of empathy for the woman in the photos just means its an artist that is capable of placing you where the artist wants you emotionaly like any other bondage scene you might experience. As to wether or not you should do this at home.... Thats why we do all this training and classes and such like and work with it to gain experience trying different and new things.... its not just duplicating what you see in the photograph which like I said is an artistic illusion. This is ware hooking up with an unexperienced Dom that gets all his info from internet and movies but has no practical experience could be a bad thing.

Jeeze! Voice a concern and you get lambasted for it.

Nope. You asked a question. You got our answers. In general, it seems we, for various reasons, don't agree with you. Now basically you have two options:

a) you stick to your concern despite our answers (perhaps throw in an additional reason or two for the sake of the discussion)
b) you change your mind with regard to the concern you voiced (which probably means end of discussion)

But no-one got lambasted.

Real_Trouble -> RE: Does this worry anyone else? (4/10/2008 10:27:39 AM)

As an aside, from a more morbid perspective, when someone is hanged, they usually die from breaking their neck on the initial drop.  This is why people will swing slowly from the gallows with their feet twitching (the usual jerks and residual motion after death) when they are hanged, rather than struggle wildly and attempt to claw at the rope around their neck.  Death, or at least near total paralysis, are usually very quick.

In rare (but not totally rare) cases the neck does not snap on the initial drop; this leads to the victim choking to death, but the process is agonizingly slow.  You can definitely see it happening, because they struggle wildly for quite some time before going limp eventually.

So, in a scene like this, so long as there's no drop and adequate safety procedures in place, I think the risk is probably no greater than hopping into a car and driving to the grocery store (which might also well get you killed).  It's the drop (or the sudden stop at the end, if you will) that does most of the damage.

It's definately not rare. Although in the western world the short and long drop is common, in countries like Iran it's not.

mzbehavin -> RE: Does this worry anyone else? (4/10/2008 10:53:56 AM)

No, it doesnt worry me. As its a photo shoot i would assume the people involved had safety measures in place.

Adelphus -> RE: Does this worry anyone else? (4/10/2008 11:10:15 AM)

Thank you to the people to answered my question.;-) You have indeed eased my concern.
And to those of you who assume I'm a close-minded nanny, you don't know me.

A lot of medieval hangings were pretty nasty. Especially when an offended public wanted to see the criminal suffering.

They'd lead the one to be hanged through the streets, and people would beat the hell out of them on the way. Once at the gibbet the hands were tied behind, and they were just hoisted up and left to kick. It amused the crowd, and the food vendors got to sell lots of goodies to everyone. It was a big event.

Does this worry me?  Nope.

She appears to be an adult and is responsible for her own decisions.  There is danger in most everything we do and we all make up our own minds about what risks we will take for ourselves.  I guess I will always wonder why some people feel as though it is their personal responsibility to protect us from ourselves.

ResidentSadist -> RE: Does this worry anyone else? (4/10/2008 5:13:09 PM)

No it doesn't worry me but if it worries you, don't do it.  I just hate it when edge players clash with all the SSC advocates in a thread.

MasterWilliam55 -> RE: Does this worry anyone else? (4/10/2008 6:45:47 PM)

Dolcett slavery is a combination of extreem play and erotic fantasy. The images the OP has provided are pretty tame to what these folks get up to. Having said this though, I have to add, any breath play is a serious activity.

datderguy -> RE: Does this worry anyone else? (4/10/2008 7:18:50 PM)

If someone was willing to try some of these things in real life, well then that is natural selection at work.  I do get tired of the do-gooders out there that feel that personal responsibility does not exist.

Actually, I managed to teach my (now ex-)slave Cera to walk, dance, and run in ballet boots for 8 hours at a time. The secret? these toe pads.

I'm serious. They're not so great for "real" ballet, because you can't feel the floor, but in ballet heel boots the last thing you want to do is feel the floor.

Buy two pairs of them, and two sets of the gel inserts. Try them in different configurations (one per foot, two per foot, two per foot plus insert, two per foot with the inside ones turned the other way, etc.) until you find what's comfortable. And practice! I guarantee you'll be able to dance in them, if you're willing to put up with a little bit of fear and pain for a bit, and if you treat the Danztech toe pads as a sports gear. You just have to find the right way to wear them that works for your feet, and you're off.

Hope this helped!
