Status: offline 		People who think they are truly better than the masses. Folk who are rude as a general matter of fact, or use vulgar language without even thinking about it. Tailgators. People who can read of a tragedy and feel nothing inside. Those that think the glass is half empty and dammit they deserve a full one. Parents that screech across a store to retrieve their screeching children running wild. Anyone who thinks they cannot learn anything more in life. (and most of all? my neighbors dog who sits on the property line and barks at my house. all day. all night. every day. every night.)

I know it said pet peeve so I am glad to see I'm not ther only one with a dog issue....
actaully at the moment my peeve is e-bay.....oh and the press 1 then press 4 then press 7 then calls are charged at a standard rate, terms and conditions apply, and then have you tried turning it off and back on again, and then can you stick a pin in it please madam....in what for f sake? in the back of your router????wtf ??????
oh and strap ons that have to keep being readjusted

People who wait until all of their groceries are scanned, bagged and in the cart before they start digging through that saddlebag they have that is masquerading as a purse (sorry, ladies) to find their checkbook and start writing a check.

People who don't use cruise control on the interstate.

The fact that I haven't heard a new song on the radio in at least ten years with a catchy guitar riff or a decent guitar solo.

OMG, Gracious does that too!!!  never fails to wake me!!

Pet peeves:  people who are driving slower than I am, but suddenly think theyre vying for the lead at the Indy 500 when I try to pass.
people who call at work, ask me questions about the hotel and then talk over me as I try to answer.
people who are rude to customer service staff.
guests the fill out the customer comment cards/surveys and give us low scores for stuff beyond our control (i.e. having a hard time turning in to our lot because of road construction, the walgreens down the street closes too early, it was too hot outside - no shit, these are ACTUAL comments).
people who ignore the 'dead end' sign on my street, then use my driveway to turn around in.

So-called dominant men who insist they know what I "really" want, what my limit/s should be, or what is good for me better than I do, just because they identify as dominant.

Tickling.  It is NOT fun or funny to many people, and it IS something that requires consent.

People attributing motive, especially negative motive, to the actions of others. Who automatically get upset at things and don't WANT to understand any different.

Blonde jokes or other remarks referencing blonde as equivalent to stupid.  1)They're sexist and 2) they perpetuate the idea that people (not just women) can and should be judged by their appearance. Yes, I am blonde, very much not the stereotype except in being friendly and gregarious...and very sick of this stereotype to which many otherwise sensible people are very attached.

having to watch the Simpsons on TV when I want Most Haunted
crumbs in the bed
burned toast that created the crumbs in the bed
the thpught of starting a new D/s realtionship (well mot really)
left over food
housework for the kids
the end of summer
beginning a cold
itchy blankets
chewing gum on the furniture
putting out the rubbish and the re-cycling every Wednesday morning
desire and attachment and feelings of relative deprivation
the building works at the end of the street
chipped nail varnish
writer's block....well that's ok then now i guess................

Attempting to decipher that nearly broke my brain bits.

I've got a silly pet peeve. I've adjusted and come to the realization that "lol" seems to be a permanent staple of online life. But FFS... Laughing Out Loud - LOL... Please, please do not add additional Out Louds to the end of it.

In general, any sort of net speak bothers the hell out of me. In private communication, through instant messages, emails, and text messages, I will spell everything out... and make it known that I expect the same from those I spend any amount of time conversing with. No one has complained so far.

Status: offline 		I have this co-worker who comes to work and through out the day has this hang dog,pout on her mouth appearance..I ask, "whats wrong,are you ok?"...she gives a long sigh and say..".yesss...I am ok, I guess"....then gives that wounded puppy look, which makes me fell guilty for no particular reason and wanting to strangle her the next!..and why do I feel guilty,,not because I feel I have created this pout or wounded look ( I know I have not)..but because all I want to do is slap the heck out of her!!!! AArghhh!!!...God, I hope this is menopause!!..because if it is not, then I am a real biotch!!!...2nd pet peeve lately..:0)....non-smokers who go about with a superior air of entitlement, and a look of disgust as I am huddled outside in the 20 degree weather on a grassy knoll, with no one about, and I know they are thinking..HA!, serves you right!!.......Tempting

Hi all, thanks so much for contributing your responses!  I've had a busy day, and am just getting a chance to get back to this thread.  I agree with SO many of the responses that many of you have made (i.e., they're pet peeves of mine too)!

In reply to the quote above, yes I agree. I never said it was a 'perfect' question and it can be interpreted different ways.  One can always clarify "major annoyances" or "minor irritants". 

To those who commented on the 2 examples I gave "neat freak and definitely ADD"....I was using those as illusory examples.  I'd like to explain a wee bit.....the first was one of our now partners.  His answers were "I hate it when people don't return things from the places they took them from; people who leave stuff in the middle of the floor; people who leave their clothes in the laundry basket too long and they get all wrinkled and they never iron them before they wear them; and people with papers all over their desk instead of in the filing cabinet".  I asked him, "like things tidy, eh?"  He said "ya, I'm kind of a neat freak".  He labeled himself!   Second example was my own mate who has been diagnosed with ADD/OCD.  I don't remember his exact answers because it was so long ago, but I remember they all had to do with people making him wait too long in line, people going too slow in the fast lane, etc.; they all had to do with speed and frustration at lack of such.  He's since toned down his "need for speed" a bit! LOL  Even though I'm not a layman, I still don't try to "diagnose" people or label them with "personality disorders"... I'm just looking for a glimpse into what makes them tick, that's all.

I tend to ask this question as one among many when I'm getting to know someone.  Some responses can lead to some interesting spinoff conversations.  The reason I usually ask folks to list  4 or 5 responses off the top of their head is to see whether the responses have a common "theme" to them (as in the examples I listed above) or not.  Sometimes all of the responses are regarding different things.  Sometimes they aren't and you can discern if there is something in the forefront of someone's thoughts.  Again, it is highly contextually dependent on the person's mood, the kind of day they've had, recent experiences, etc.  Sometimes I'll ask 2 weeks later...."so, what are your pet peeves this week?" Everyone so far has taken it humorously, and sometimes it opens up a discussion about something that's bothering them that they end up talking about with you.  It's just one little question among so, so many when getting to know someone.  I've found I just like using it.  YMMV

Status: offline 		You know, I don't remember your response about the pet peeve question. I thought I read all the responses to my thread. It's a great question.

I don't have a lot of pet peeves and I certainly don't dwell on them. You know, how some people just can't wait to tell you what really pisses them off! But I guess mine would have to be:

1. Littering-makes me insane when I see someone dump trash without thought or care. It's like the ultimate "F-You" to everyone else in the world.
2. I hate it when people zoom way ahead on the on ramp (and sometimes even the shoulder) of the highway and then jam themselves into the line of traffic way ahead of all the cars they passed. It's like a car version of jumping the line.
3. I work in a customer service industry and one of the things that irritates me is when people call me for information, such as our address, and then when I start to give them the information they say "hold on, let me get a pen".
4. BAD cell phones etiquette. Driving, in restaurants, in stores, in check out lines etc... We even had a woman come into our office and take a cell call right in our lobby where the receptionist is attempting to answer the phone, and then complain to her friend on the phone that she couldn't hear because we were making too much noise!

Gheez- now I'm all riled up and it's time to go to work. *grumble*

I don't mind that people smoke - I just mind finding a pile of stinky stubbed out cigarettes on the driveway, in the grass, etc.  Please, put it out in your car or take a tin can out with you (and bring it back in and dispose of it).
 
People who interrupt you while you are speaking, and especially those who do it just for the heck of it.
 
People who talk to you while you are on the phone.
People who chew gum, food, etc. while you are on the phone with them.
People who hold conversations with others while on the phone with you.
Call Waiting! It is not a hold button - just say you're on the other line and call me back.
Hmmm ... I do believe I have phone issues 
 
People who don't have a sense of humor - take a pill already, okay?

Status: offline 		I get annoyed by the people who DO use cruise-control on the interstate.  They tend to have little awareness of what's going on around them, and no concept of the need for slowing down (or changing lanes) as the circumstances of the road dictate.  "Oh, I'm here in the left lane, I'm going 65 on cruise control, and I don't give a fuck about anyone else on the road; if I'm going to slow for you, pass me on the right."

Negativity. The inability to see positive in ANYTHING other than it is consistently happening to them.

People who knowingly endanger someone who is unaware how much danger they are actually in. Examples of this are the Asshole Driving like a Dick out in the middle of the desert who is amazed when the truck flips. Or the guy who convinces his girl to dance on a table at a party while he does some heroine and passes out while she is getting raped.

People who judge people by stereotypes rather than actually getting to know them. This is most annoying when it is done by people who themselves complain about it being done about them.

People who make the same mistake over and over and over again think that the mistake was different because the person was different. The Idea with this one is people who complain about being used and abused and yet continue to be attracted to the type of person who does this. I understand that you are attracted to assholes but if you realize this why are you always surprised when they turn out to be …. ASSHOLES???

People who are so Jaded that they can’t stand to see someone else happy, so that when they have an issue or at the first sign or relationship strain the suggestion is to just LEAVE. What upsets me most is these people who usually profess that you should leave are single and have been for awhile….. Why take relationship from people who aren’t in a relationship…. How much can they know that is positive??

Irrational Pet Peeves

People who use the word “Borrow” when they mean “lend” It is used a LOT in Utah. “Hey can we Borrow Tom $20.00, we said he would pay us back on Thursday.” More than that when you correct them and they say “What’s the difference?” I just want to scream and hand them a fucking dictionary but I doubt they could read anyway.

People who Whistle the wrong Melody to a song. (Okay I admit this one is a little out there) It drives me nuts when I sing the song in my head to someone who is whistling a song and then they throw in the chorus when there are still two verses left to go. When I whistle a song I start from the beginning and I go to the end damnit!

People who ask for your advice and in the same conversation tell you they are going to do something different anyway. I hate this because you realize they didn’t want your advice they wanted YOU to justify what they were going to do so that they could have someone to blame if it blew up in their face.

Women who assume that just because I am a Man and have a Penis I want to have sex with them …… although this is often the case It bugs me that they assume so without being given an sign of it being the case.

People at a Play Party who follow you around like a bunny, asking irritating questions and do whatever they can to get you to get your girl naked so that can whack off to the memory later. These people offer you THOUSANDS of Back handed compliments letting you know they think you have done better for yourself than you should have ….. comments like …”Man you are one lucky bastard getting a girl like that.” It says they think I am not worthy of a sub like her because if how pretty she is. It’s a Back handed compliments one that you wonder why your face hurts while saying “Thank you?”

Yeah I’m a little out there at times.
