So much for free speech in France. Same would happen in UK I expect. Brigitte Bardot has become quite passionate about "cruelty to animals".She came to an airport near where I live to protest after the acidental death of a demonstrator, opposing live animal transport to Europe, got wide publicity I remember the fuss about the Muslim ceremony where a sheep was to be slaughtered but I do not know what happened. Anybody know ?

-fr- not familiar with french free speech laws, but i'm surprised that this is listed as inciting racial hatred; i've seen others do much, much worse with no recourse. maybe it's because she's so popular? or maybe it's just france, and i'm used to the american interpretation of free speech (which has its own shortcomings, but seriously...this seems a bit over the top to me). the one thing i do not get about people like bardot who speak out against immigration is that if the french people did not want maghrebi immigrants, they should have thought of that before colonizing the damn countries in the first place. if anyone's interested in maghrebi immigration to france, and issues relating to moroccan women and french women of moroccan origin (also discusses islam to a great extent), i'd recommend checking out "muslim women on the move" by doris gray. annabelle.

It's quite perverse how those animal rights activists can be so intolerant towards their fellow humans. She hasn't just criticised islamists, she's also attacked homosexuals. She's pretty intolerant of anyone and it's likely the only tolerance she'll find is from the four legged creatures that can't criticise her in return. I have to say that she comes across as a lonely, bitter and vengeful female.

EXACTLY, MissM. Bardot is a bitter and twisted hag, and as many exclusive animal lovers, she's a misanthropist - a particular brand of misanthropy, however, one that is exclusively aimed at those from a different culture than her own (Parisian petite bourgeoisie).

Bardot never denied being close to the Front national (french extremist party) wihch her husband(or former husband) is from. For her fight for animal right she go real far but sometime it is justified. Look at those poor baby seals beaten and skined off alive. For her breaking the law, she should be ashamed to "put everyone in the same sack".

That's an interesting point and something I have also noted about exclusive animal lovers - insofar as them seeming bitter and angry towards their fellow man. 'Outsiders eroding our way of life' is hardly an innovative notion. As ever with these articles, I'd like to see the full quote and the context. Perhaps she's suggesting that she values traditional French culture and aims to keep it that way at all costs; you may disagree, of course, but this sentiment is widespread and it's a valid opinion. France is a unique situation, of course. They're fed on a diet of the glory of France in a similar vein to England, but their language has been usurped by English, their politics is in the process of being usurped by the Anglo-Saxon model and they remain embarrassed by the actions of the Southern half of France when collaborating with the Germans. All in all, you have here a people who believe their culture should be exported but find they're struggling to stem the tide of Anglo-Saxon driven globalisation, which renders them a suspicious and fearful lot not averse to lashing out at in vintage scapegoat fashion. A point aside, the French must be the least likeable lot on this planet. I try to keep broad generalisations to a minimum, but I make exceptions for our neighbours from across the channel.

it's sad really that a person so obviously suffering from the early onset of dementia could be treated so shabbily. i mean noone stopped eating meat in France when she went all PETA-esque, and besides her hairstyle...which to this day is fabola...how much influence does she really have? Is she giving head to Sarkozy or something?
