I was just wondering why it is, that so many in the BDSM scene are attracted to portentous, witless, politically dodgy characters like Boyd Rice and Marilyn Manson? I put this down to the Goth-Fetish interface! Might i suggest they seek out some Zappa or The Cramps by way of a change?

ROFL; i saw Alice Cooper in a gym; the crowd was wild and i kept waiting to die in a stampede. When he threw the baby doll parts to the crowd it was esp bad, LOL.

Brother you KNOW don't you? Your tastes run very simililar to my mine! From Free Jazz and improv i favour: Albert Ayler; Archie Shepp; Coltrane; Ornette; Anthony Braxton; Derek Bailey and John Zorn to name but a few!

<smiles> nice stuff. I've currently been delving into Eric Dolphy, having picked up Iron Man for the first time (actually because of the infamous Vaughn Bode review). It's one of those albums which bears repeated listening just to parse out its many complexities. I'll be picking up more Dolphy soon.

I like to listen to Heavy metal/hard rock and can't stand rap or country. I can listen to pretty much every genre of metal there is except nu metal cause it usually incorporates rap music into it at least the new nu metal does anyway

Well, i am not at all interested in this kind of music; but for people who do like it, i say "have at it". i don't judge people by their musical tastes anymore than i do on their taste in movies or books. And where you got the idea that "many" BDMS'ers are into this music escapes me. Is there some survey i'm not aware of?

Clasical Music (Beehoven, Bach, Wagner and Sibelious are my favourite composers ~ Especially Bach's organ fuges)
Some Opera
Jazz
Celtic music
Traditional Bag Pipes
Modern Music (Wind chimes, natural sounds and of course I love the pan pipes)
Blues
Blue Grass
Country

Very much depends on what I'm doing and how I feel.

Are these questions meaningful ? The community is comprised of many different and variegated individuals....I would expect musical tastes to simply reflect that otherwise we'd all be mindless automatons from....oops...nearly.

Ah, Sibelius. I lived in his home country while teaching there and Pojhola's Daughter remains my favourite arrangement of all time...the monument to him is rather weird though.

I know that I like what I like, and it has nothing to do with BDSM at all.

Finlandia is my favourite of his... Lodge uses it for ceremonial openings because of the build up of power of the elementals.

Yes, Finlandia is powerful and evocative. I like it and see how it could be used in that way. Pohjola's Daughter is a sentimental favourite i suppose.

....and there is the one about the Duck raising the boy...I saw the opera but cannot remember the name of the piece...

Alice Cooper and more Alice Cooper!

The man is an icon. I have loved Alice Cooper ever since I can remember. I have every CD, I have the box set and I even have the Todd McFarlane Action Figure...ok so I am demented but its a good dementia right?

My musical tastes on a day to day basis largely depends on my mood. I can go from one extreme to the other.

I like 80's hairbands
Comedy - Like Dr. Demento
Old School Metal
Evanesence
Classic Rock

Our tastes are rather eclectic. Celtic, country, classic rock, enigma, industrial, middle eastern, depends on the mood we are trying to set.

I formed, write lyrics and music, front, and play bass in a melodic black metal band.  Probably not coming to a city near you

Though I like some punk, classical and folk, the metal that I was able to find online in the late 90's took me down the path I now follow.

Edit..Holy embarassing necro-post

I can explain...Do a search for the recent social darwinism posts, wear your old glasses, and this is what happens LOL

Zappa? Been there, done that, not 19 anymore.

These days I listen to country because there's a huge percentage of country songs based on life as an adult, not a teen needing to borrow the car.

We all have different musical tastes!  Sometimes there are elements of music that people describe as scene music.  Some think NIN and Alice Copper and even Marilyn Manson are scene music.  Some think Enigma.  Some think 2 Live Crew (yes, seriously, I know a bottom in Atlanta who likes to bottom to their music).

Bottom line is this, there is no true musical taste within BDSM just like there's no one true way in BDSM lifestyle.  We are people who take things we learn about BDSM, music and lifestyles and individualize them to our tastes.
