i hear you cali.....it may be he is a fluke....i double checked with him and the ssi is all the income he gets....

of course, and i mean this in the sweetest way, he is a man and it may not be ssi. its disability of some kind hes been getting for almost 2 yeears after nearly loosing a leg due to clots.

i do recall seeing one year, before i started using turbo tax, a place on the 1040 close to the beginning that said if you wish, stop here and the irs will do all the calculations for you. i thought like hell-lolol.

edited to add my $600 showed up in my account on friday, and it all went to bills, except the $50 i have in my wallet to go do my part helping sex toy stocks skyrocket.

Yup. That an a small check because when my dad signed up for social security he listed me as a dependant, since i was a child at the time.

If SSI (supplemental security income) is your only income, then your dad was correct in that you don't qualify. Because SSI is not considered a social security benefit*, it is not included in qualifying income.

*social security benefits are derived from taxes you have paid into the system. Since SSI is not calculated based on prior income, it is classified differently than social security income.
