The Jesus myth is said to have happened around 2000 years ago. However like most myths people have conveniently forgotten that the story is far older than 2000 years old. The story of Jesus is a rip off of the earlier pagan sun worshiping myths. In which the sun was said to have been born during the winter solstice (23-25 December). The sun would then travel around the cross of the zodiac only to die and be reborn every year. The Sun Cross is at least 4000 years old. The Celtic Cross is also far older than the Jesus Story. Followers of the early sun cults would worship the SUN each week on a Sunday. You may find it interesting to google the word Jesus and look on the google images tab.Notice how nearly ever image of Jesus has the Sun in the picture. 70% of Americans believe in Jesus.

this could have been an amazing discussion
*sigh*
oh well

the story of jesus has parallels because the christian fathers wished to fit the holy days in to replace the holy days of the pagans.

the solstice, as shortest day of the year, was celebrated in northern climates.  there doesnt seem to be any basis for the claim of weekly worship by pagans, only on the quarters (seasonal changes) and cross-quarters, meaning 8 major holy days in the year.

the sun is in the pictures of jesus to signify his being the light of the world.

discuss away.  :)

Blasphemy.

I invite the water-based punishment of the lord to strike ye a cruel blow at some point in 2008.

Jesus was a Palestinian independentist. He just wanted the Roman Empire out - there were a few like him, in his days. He has remained in popular memory because he was probably a little more vocal than his colleagues.

The sacrificial lamb incident comes from a particularly zealous sect of submissive proselytes who were promoting their latest dungeon toys. Their line of crosses, nails and whips became particularly successful in Judea's "specialist" stores thereafter.

I actually mentioned all this in a conversation with The Guy a short while ago... The Guy: the Yeshua Ha Nozri of Collarchat.com.

Jesus really was jewish ya know and this proves it...

He lived at home til he was 30
He went into his father's business
and his mother thought he was God !!

Edited to add : I think he was a switch.
He had disciples but he was submissive to God.

(nothing like a Jesus thread to get a Jewish girl Horney)

These people wished more so to appease the pagans and encourage them to join the "christian" church by adding these holidays.  It was really a political move by Constatntine to retain peace in the Roman Empire, than any actual Christian conversion.  Sort of a 'one size fits all' religion.  The actual followers of Jesus at that point, were still following the Jewish traditions and reeling from persecution and then the later combining of their beliefs with pagan beliefs.
For me, Jesus and my relationship with Him,is one thing....religion and how people choose to follow Him,  is another.

Oh lawd, you girls are really making this fallen away Catholic boy sweat. *Pant, pant*

Btw, LL,  kitt adds more ammo to your point about Jesus being an, ummm, typical Jewboy.
"Jesus was a  independentist".
Apparently, he went into his daddies bidniss, but also was an independent dentist on the side. Hard workin', professional lad. At least, I think that's what she meant.

Jesus , a middle eastern man walking around the desert yet every picture seen of him he is a blonde blue eyed  fair to light skinned med to tall man .[sm=idea.gif]

kittinSol -> RE: The Jesus Myth (5/3/2008 11:13:33 AM)

You have the Renaissance painters to blame for this, mostly. Fucking bastards were obsessed with their barely nubile models.

Yes, Jesus probably looked like Woody Allen more than like Brad Pitt, but the marketing campaign wouldn't have been quite so successful had people known that.

TheHeretic -> RE: The Jesus Myth (5/3/2008 11:18:33 AM)

Really, Azrope?  I've seen very few depictions where they do him blond.  Now you do see a lot where the fringes of his hair is lightened by the glow of 'holiness.'  Of course, the Baptists solved the long-hair thing by depicting him with a mullet.

Hell, I've even run across pictures where they do him as black.

lronitulstahp -> RE: The Jesus Myth (5/3/2008 11:22:03 AM)

imo He probably looked more like a dude from Yemen than Woody...but whatever He looked like, isn't the important thing...whatever people think of His divinity, the message was revolutionarily awesome.  Imagine..."don't judge others...you're not perfect, treat people as kindly as you'd like them to treat you, no one person is better than another..."  It changed the way people thought...simple as it was.

Zensee -> RE: The Jesus Myth (5/3/2008 11:22:38 AM)

Hardly like Woody Allen, kittin.

Let's see take stock: swarthy, semitic, bearded, long robes, spouting anti-establishment rhetoric, surrounded by zealous men hungry for the afterlife...

I don't think he'd make it through airport security.

Z.
