Jesus was a Palestinian independentist. He just wanted the Roman Empire out - there were a few like him, in his days. He has remained in popular memory because he was probably a little more vocal than his colleagues. The sacrificial lamb incident comes from a particularly zealous sect of submissive proselytes who were promoting their latest dungeon toys. Their line of crosses, nails and whips became particularly successful in Judea's "specialist" stores thereafter. I actually mentioned all this in a conversation with The Guy a short while ago... Jesus really was jewish ya know and this proves it... He lived at home til he was 30 He went into his father's business and his mother thought he was God !! Edited to add : I think he was a switch. He had disciples but he was submissive to God. (nothing like a Jesus thread to get a Jewish girl Horney)

These people wished more so to appease the pagans and encourage them to join the "christian" church by adding these holidays. It was really a political move by Constatntine to retain peace in the Roman Empire, than any actual Christian conversion. Sort of a 'one size fits all' religion. The actual followers of Jesus at that point, were still following the Jewish traditions and reeling from persecution and then the later combining of their beliefs with pagan beliefs. For me, Jesus and my relationship with Him,is one thing....religion and how people choose to follow Him, is another.

This is the same nitwit erm...poster who started a thread a few weeks ago about why it's dumb to be a Christian. (I don't remember exactly what he said because the thread was pulled, but it was a cut and paste job from another site.) edited to say you guys had me laughing so hard I was crying last night! I hope this one doesn't get pulled, because there be's some funny shit here.

You have the Renaissance painters to blame for this, mostly. Fucking bastards were obsessed with their barely nubile models. Yes, Jesus probably looked like Woody Allen more than like Brad Pitt, but the marketing campaign wouldn't have been quite so successful had people known that.

Really, Azrope? I've seen very few depictions where they do him blond. Now you do see a lot where the fringes of his hair is lightened by the glow of 'holiness.' Of course, the Baptists solved the long-hair thing by depicting him with a mullet. Hell, I've even run across pictures where they do him as black.

imo He probably looked more like a dude from Yemen than Woody...but whatever He looked like, isn't the important thing...whatever people think of His divinity, the message was revolutionarily awesome. Imagine..."don't judge others...you're not perfect, treat people as kindly as you'd like them to treat you, no one person is better than another..." It changed the way people thought...simple as it was.
