To be fair, Buddha came with up with something remarkably similar quite a little while before, but you're correct that these are philosophies of kindness and wisdom. Sadly overlooked by greed and violence :-( .

Jesus , a middle eastern man walking around the desert yet every picture seen of him he is a blonde blue eyed  fair to light skinned med to tall man .[sm=idea.gif]

He was vacationing?

Why wouldn't have Jesus looked like Woody? Have you read Bulgakov? His depiction of Yeshua is Woody Allen's spitting image :-) .

imo He probably looked more like a dude from Yemen than Woody...but whatever He looked like, isn't the important thing...whatever people think of His divinity, the message was revolutionarily awesome.  Imagine..."don't judge others...you're not perfect, treat people as kindly as you'd like them to treat you, no one person is better than another..."  It changed the way people thought...simple as it was.

Well said, tulip.

I'm sure I've said this before but in African countries there are statues of a black Virgin Mary. I think in these situations the detail isn't as important as the idea as a whole.

Although in my opinion the idea as a whole is flawed but you all know this because I’ve said it enough times.

There is enough evil in the world for a second coming so what is taking them so long?

These people wished more so to appease the pagans and encourage them to join the "christian" church by adding these holidays. It was really a political move by Constatntine to retain peace in the Roman Empire, than any actual Christian conversion. Sort of a 'one size fits all' religion. The actual followers of Jesus at that point, were still following the Jewish traditions and reeling from persecution and then the later combining of their beliefs with pagan beliefs.
For me, Jesus and my relationship with Him,is one thing....religion and how people choose to follow Him, is another.

going to have to disagree with you on the "one size fits all" comment .... for the reason that the catholic church will shun anyone that even expresses thoughts in a same-sex relationship, poly relationships, or even a "pairing" from 2 different religions (with that, they require the non-christian to agree that any offspring produced from the pairing will be raised as christian - my mom, catholic; my father, athiest : married in a catholic church)

I think this is more in reference to the church of rome during its expansionist phase. They learned from the Romans that it is better to absorb foreign religions and control them from within than to oppress them harshly from without. They allowed the pantheon of saints to overlay the native pantheon and permitted pagan traditions to continue under the guise of adoration of the saints. This strategy continued well into the conquest of the Americas.

Once the catholic church had reached saturation, it switched to the more authoritarian, intolerant model we know today.

cjan -> RE: The Jesus Myth (5/3/2008 12:59:39 PM)

Perhaps this would be a good time to reflect on the sig of the dearly departed domidong.

"Jesus, protect me from your followers."

And yes, the Buddha, and other Buddhas, before him and since,  discovered  the secret to a happy life long before Jesus did. Not knocking Jesus, the truth is still available to any and all who care to seek it.

My religion, however, twisted fuck that I am, is based on the Conan the Barbarian philosophy i.e., :
"To drive my enemies befo' me, and to hear de lamentations of de vimmen in de willages..."
