But *sometimes* I think it is a duty to call someone to task. There are some complete newbies here that are completely enamored by the lifestyle and believe anything they hear..... and to sit idly back on our thumbs and let some moron pontificate about how things are or how things should really be would be wrong and a lack of responsibilty. No, we are not responsible to save the world from themselves, but I think it is the duty of people who have learned these lessons  ( often the hard way ) to correct a wrong when possible. We all have our own style of doing that and I admit that sometimes my style is way overboard, but I am me.

Sometimes being less than nice with a blowhard will generate alternate points of view and we all get to learn.

Sometimes it is too fun for me and I get carried away....I will *try* to tone it down. Now can we all just share a fucking hug already???

I honestly haven't noticed it.  More accurately, I haven't experienced it.  Sure, I've noticed cycles of bad behavior when some people are snarkier than usual, and I've noticed that some people get picked on more than others, but I've never seen it get horrible.  I've rarely seen it reach vendetta level.  I do, however, have a few friends on the other side who left the boards for exactly the reasons you describe.  I always prefer to judge for myself and therefore take others' experiences with a grain of salt, but make certain to keep them in mind.

I don't suck up.  I don't provoke.  I try to keep my cool and act rationally at all times.  Most of the time it works gracefully, other times, not so much.  I am just me.  I am only human.  Scratch that.  There's no just or only about me.  I am me.  I love me.  I present it as that.  If people don't like that, it is, of course, their business.  I don't expect everyone to fall in love with me.  I don't expect everyone to hate me either.  I am here to make friends, crack a joke or two, learn, and help others in the process.  I've found the message boards to be great in that capacity. 

If any of you are having problems, I suggest you take a look at what is driving you away from the boards, confront it head on and try to resolve it regardless of where the fault or blame lies.  Often the words, "I don't want to fight with you.  We can agree to disagree and not speak to each other anymore if we can't speak civilly," work wonders, especially if corresponding actions follow.  Then actually drop the topic and/or communication.  Block if you have to and FORGET ABOUT IT.  Life is entirely to damned short to get worked up about something someone said on an internet message board, no matter how cool that board is.

Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding you, but it sounds like you're saying that since you can't speak your mind in the rest of your life, you come here and let loose?  That sounds like a really bad idea to me.

I have no problem speaking my mind whereever I go--here, there, and elsewhere.  I can hold my tounge, and often do, but if I'm going to speak, its going to be my mind.  Maybe thats why I don't feel compelled to let loose on the here on the forums.

I don't think being part of an alternative lifestyle is a justification for plain ol' rudeness.  If someone wants to be rude, they should just have courage and be rude, sans justification.  I mean, why dress it up in leather?

The internet is not a brand-new wonder that people are just figuring out.  Unless you've been living under a rock (a really HEAVY rock), I find it really hard to believe that people go anywhere on the net and expect coddling.  You can expect helpful advice (which you are free to ignore), you can expect unhelpful advice, you can expect some sharp responses. 

Unless all the snarkiness being discussed is happening on political threads or something (and I don't venture there), then I'm not seeing it.  Look at our recent "oilwoman".  When it seemed that she might be a bit "touched in the head", we went easy on her. Until we found out it was all an act and she was really a $400 an hour hooker.

Look at the recent person with many health issues.  We try over and over and over to give truly helpful advice, only to have it stomped on and discarded.  Yet we still try again and again.  Underneath the histrionics, there is a real person there with some real issues that are being ignored because of the "Peter and the Wolf" syndrome.

I'd say it was far worse when that other person was still here (the person that caused the formation of the WAC).  As someone said to me recently, how can one person exhibit such an air of superiority AND a 'subblier than thou' attitude at the same time? Don't they cancel each other out?

Anyway, maybe I'm hanging out on the wrong threads.  I see people reaching out to others in need.  I see big hugs and big smiles and really nice things that lift your day.  I see people that care about people they most likely will never meet.

  actually, i'm more subdued here than with people in person.  In real life, there is no MOD11 driving the mini-van threatening to pull over....
    i get what Domah is saying, it's very hard to stay on thread, and there are some i am happy to see, chat with, etc here.  i think that's part of being here so often...(domah amongst some of my faves here,btw)  but i suppose, to newer people it might seem a bit "clique-ish".  When i first came here i jumped in with both feet...one poster basically called me a stupid twat for one of my opinions....i brushed it off, and kept posting... Although i'm not in any clique, there are certain issues i will address, and certain posters i find interesting, and tend to gravitate towards.  i suppose others are the same.

I've often been accused of being a bitch on here and I've had people say this exact same thing to me. The people who know me both on and off here know that's BS. There isn't anything that I say on here to someone that I wouldn't have the courage to say if we were face to face.

I say what I mean, and I mean what I say. Often it will not be what the poster may want to hear....but it is what I feel is the right thing to say or the thing they need most to hear. Far too often though, what I see happening is people who want their position supported, want sympathy or to be coddled...or they simply aren't expecting that anyone will be that honest. Granted, I do realize that I can reach a level of honesty that many people just can't deal with. When putting something out onto a public forum as large and diverse as this, what surprises me most is that they could possibly be expecting that everyone will agree with their view.

I do think that most people here post with good intent and in an effort to help. Sometimes that message is sweet and supportive....sometimes it's a bitch slap. The delivery should not be nearly as important as the message.

Status: offline 		It's only a clique if you are not in it... otherwise it's just a group of like minded people.  What is "fuckn'' sad" is that people give a message board such POWER over them.  State your opinions when you have them.. if you are ignored.. so what, if someone agrees- good for you.. if someone disagrees..that's their prerogative.  You (the collective 'you') have to get out of the middle school mentality and stop being so sensitive.
