The balance is sometimes hard to strike between appearing arrogant or a yes man. Fewer people listen to arrogant types unless you work in my profession then everyone does but it still doesn't make them right just more unpopular if they are proven to be wrong.

being rejected doesn't bother me one bit. it takes a thick skin and mindset to get passed that. i know my opinions aren't welcome by 99% here ...so it's no big deal to me. it doesn't diminish my self-esteem or confidence at all.

Agreed. Given a choice of the two, though, I'd take appearing arrogant every day of the week.

A point to consider: labelling someone arrogant can be a tool of manipulation.
