You are part of the UN, you cannot be 'selective', Popeye. I wonder if you casted your vote regarding your sentiment that there's a lot the US shouldn't be doing, especially when it came to voting in Bush for another term.

I've read that up to 1.5 million might die as conditions worsen - especially from the lack of food and water and the spread of diseases like malaria.

But what's the difference between the Burmese and the Iraqis. If it was a war crime to help the people of Iraq, how is this any different.

This is too easy. The difference is Burma a natural disaster, Iraq was an invasion based on false intelligence, made up to fit the purpose. I would also think the average Iraqi doesnt consider they have been helped.

Well, if the American People were to vote on it we'd be out of the "U.N." tommorrow morning!
I, and almost all Americans have *never* had a say on that!
You could go to a state hospital and pick out 10 imbeciles and they'd be more effective than the "U.N.!"
And you won't get any argument from me on that POS, Bush.
Most Americans want out of this "global economy" "free trade" crap and he does nothing because his big business buddies are making too much money off of those abominations!
And as for being "afraid" and shitting my pants, there's not a lot to be "afraid" of on this planet when you have *Nuclear Submarines.*
I'd just like to see more willingness on the part of our govt. to use them.
That's another reason Obama's going to lose, he doesn't have any balls.
And,..."no military service."

Saddam was genocidal. He was diverting "oil for food" funds from the Iraqi people who it was meant to have helped. He was every bit as bad for the Iraqi people that the Myanmar junta is for the people of Myanmar.

Popeye is being consistent, but he's probably the only one. Myanmar is a sovereign nation with which we have no right to meddle, just like Iraq.

Right?

Do you not see a difference between sending in troops to bring down a regime, and dropping air supplies to starving people ? The UN should have done more about the " oil for food " situation. From where i sit, it doesnt seem that most Iraqis are any better off now, than before. All thats happened is one thug has been swapped for terrorist thugs.

Where am i being inconsistent ?

"If it was a war crime to help the people of Iraq, how is this any different".

How does killing over a half million innocent Iraqi civilians and destroying their nation down to 3rd world status, count as "helping"?

It`s mother`s day, not backwards day.

Just like a neo-con, to turn logic and perception on it`s head and call what Bush has done in Iraq,"helping".

Would you guys please please please stop "helping"?

If we're invading their airspace and thereby engaging their regime in order to force our version of help on them then there is very little difference between Burma and Iraq. Both regimes are evil, both horribly repress their citizenry, and we really have equal right to interfere with their internal affairs in both cases - either we have no right or we have every right.

Iraq is no different than Burma. Our excuse would be different, but that's about it.

Politesub, oh I'm sure that the "U.N." has detectives on it right now looking for the $22-$24 Billion that " disapeared" in that "Oil for Food" scandel.
If they can't find $22-$24 Billion.......

It`s a bit late sending in detectives when the UN Head ( Sevan ? ) of the program was implicated, along with politician and oil companies ( Including Bayoil ) from many countries.

Then they need to go after them and get that money or properties, real estate etc back and put those bastards on trial.

The U.S. probably joined the U.N. because after Pearl Harbour, you realised the policy of "Leave me alone, the world isn't my problem" wasn't working. It's a shame the pendulum swung the other way to reckless interfering though.

It seems that China, Russia, Germany and France practically go begging for dictators who will accept their anti-aircraft systems. Could be that I'm wrong and the Burmese junta doesn't have any arms at all, but even if I am wrong, still, what you seem to be saying is that might makes right.

Really, I'm just playing Devils advocate here. We might be a lot closer together on this thing than you know... except that I may be a little more consistent than you are.

They have 40 Mig 21's armed with french missles, and something like 26 mig 19's Pretty much a lot of junk... Nothing that the US Navy would even have to get within visual range of to down. A Hornet could engage and splash them from over the horizon. However, its not worth it.

Remember Somalia? How grateful they were for food and medical attention? How they repaid our kindness? Screw Burma.

Note that snobby one-upmanship there, PS53. "...I might be a little more consistent than you are." In other words, inflexible, dogmatic, unable to consider alternative viewpoints, and so on. Well, he's certainly more 'consistent" than I. I actually change my mind upon acquiring newer, more valid data.

A real Tory.

For once I agree with Owner. Let the fucking people die all over the world from natural disasters. We also need to pull out of the UN, so that we are not forced to help anymore. The line for help should stop at the border.
