As most Doms and subs know, fear is an excellent motivator.

I will not insult your obvious inability to understand the current laws and the heavy handed fines and prison terms that may come to many site owners. As Mistress has pointed out, many sites are closing or changing what is/is not allowed. CollarMe has taken an active and time consuming task of trying to maintain a free community for others to enjoy.

You're welcome, enjoy your stay.

Don't forget they could completely minimize it by closing the board. They certainly aren't depending on it for a living and I'm sure it's a constant expense.

One of the sad things about the scene is that everyone has expectations but not many are willing to step up to the plate

You forgot massive headache's.

I have a lot of respect for the people who keep CollarMe operating and can understand why, given the present climate, they want to cut down on the obvious risk factors

Thank you for understanding.

If you see that as some form of unacceptable behavior, I'd recommend you punish them by withdrawing your person.

I'm sorry if my rather tongue-in-cheek comments offended as that was not my intent. However, nowhere did I say that this was unacceptable behaviour. I'm sorry you felt defensive enough to jump to that conclusion. As someone who has seen/been a member of/post/lurked on quite a few BDSM sites over the years I simply asked why there were such vast difference between sites. It's a shame an opportunity to educated turned into defensive posturing.

As someone who ran a BDSM group and was constantly told "you should be doing this" by people who weren't risking their personal safety and finances, I can understand why CollarMe would want to minimize their risk.

I've been involved in many such groups (not just online and not just BDSM related) and never have I suggested that those who run groups should subjugate themselves to the bitching and moaning of ThoseWhoComplainButDon'tActivelyMakeChange. Again, I'm genuinely sorry if a question followed by a tongue in cheek comment caused such distress. However, I would like to point out that nowhere did I suggest that CollarMe sucks or that CollarMe should change their policies to reflect my world view or even that CollarMe was doing anything wrong. Any such erroneous infereces by others are not my responsibility.

Ahh, yes, the 'shut up since they could just take it all away if they really wanted to' argument. Again, nowhere did I criticize CollarMe for their choices. I asked a question give the very obvious disparity I've notice and my comments did not go beyond that, though they seem to have been interpreted far beyond my intent.

And I actually agree with you. However, I think that owners of such sites have to realize that they need the "complainers" just as much, if not more, than the "complainers" need them. This site relies on a sense of community to some degree. Without a variety of users (free or paid) all of the efforts in setting up such a community are eventually for naught. While I agree that this site and the servers on which they reside are private property and the owners can do whatever they wish with them, impose whatever rules or community standards they wish that should NOT preclude people from asking questions. It also should not mean that someone such as myself who asked an honest question should be silenced for doing so.

Again, my apologies if my comments offended somehow but I think if you look at what I actually said objectively you'll see that there was no need for the knee-jerk reaction.

Actually, you just did. It's a shame you chose such a passive-aggressive way to do so, however, as I don't think many people can respect that kind of behaviour.

I think it's a real shame that a person who asks an honest question and makes a tongue in cheek response is suddenly branded as some sort of complainer and/or pariah. Had I criticized CollarMe somehow I might understand the defensiveness but under the circumstances this is truly baffling. Perhaps this is a symptom or side effect of the current political climate in the U.S. that I'm incapable of understanding.

G'afternoon all:

I coined a phrase some years ago that deals with this situation as well; "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem." While I agree with some that I detest seeing pictures of genitalia splattered across profiles or forum identities, I must concur with others that any infringement of one's rights regarding freedom of expression is be avoided at all costs. This great country was founded to protect freedoms. So, instead of waiting for others to take action, do so yourself. Write your appropriate politician, organise support functions/rallies, something. For the love of what you hold holy, stop whining.

I do believe that the finger pointing and name calling is a bit overly dramatic. Healthy debate is what makes these forums desirable in the first place. Can we please exercise some courtesy and self control? You must first give respect to receive it.

Let's all understand one thing; this site is free. The laws governing such may very well be different than those regarding premium sites. (Thank you "frenchpet" for providing the 2257 link, it's bookmarked for leisurely perusal later.) I've always silently applauded the people responsible for keeping CM afloat, despite the rough waters. Nowhere else have I found a community so diverse and so well versed. It's nice to have this place for all the opportunities it provides. You folks just keep doing what you need to retain this little safe haven for us freaks, deviants, perverts and other associated broken toys. I don't see your membership sloughing away in droves due to the precautionary steps you've taken to safeguard this little island of sanity in the sea of middle America conservatives.

I've noticed that humanity excels when challenged. We persevere in spite of what others throw in our path. Perhaps this is a stage when our creativity should be exercised. Instead of flaunting our alternative tastes, we need to find ways to circumvent the prejudices heaped upon us. These sadly stagnant masses too afraid of their own sexuality refuse to be educated. We must then find other avenues of expression. "Necessity is the mother of invention." Let's invent some new methods of dealing with this, shall we?

*kicks her soapbox back under the futon*

Stay safe, play nice & share your toys w/ others...

Bella

There are hundreds of articles out there, and I suggest everyone start reading. This is not restricted to on-line communities and websites. It will also come into play with basic televison, movies, magazines and much more.

I have mixed feelings.
It would be nice to be able to post bondage pictures in profiles because that is a great way to share ideas and such.
On the other hand, some people would take advantage of that and post things that are really inappropiate.
So I guess better safe than sorry.

I'd have to figure that there some damned good reasons why collerme isn't moved off shore to avoid the problem. I'd also say that the Mods do a bloody good job keeping things going. From experience in other sites its a thankless job doing what they do especially knowing they wont make everyone happy. I'm just glad we have what we have.... Good on yer Mods, y've earned a carton or three of Fosters in my book.

It isn't limited to the scene John, it has infected society at large. It's called a culture of entitlement.
