seems racist.  seems -- if this becomes a pattern, makes one wonder.

LOL LOL LOL Thats funny shit! He should be glad it was Albany NY and not Texas. Texas cops wouldnt have taken him for a colonoscopy they would have stomped on his belly till something popped out - be it drugs or his spleen whichever came first.

On  a serious note - its not "racism" This sentance in the story says it all:

"Clement, a convicted drug dealer with a lengthy criminal record, is serving time in state prison for a separate offense."

Gee the cops thought that the drug dealer with the lengthy criminal record had an ass full of drugs? Thats not racism thats damn fine police work... LOL Bet he didnt come back to Albany.

PanthersMom -> RE: drug police put cam in worng mans anus (5/14/2008 6:26:00 AM)

I particularly enjoyed the line..I sensed criminality was afoot! hehe

It's not often that a callous old bastard like me is moved to pity but I can't regard those who find this type of human rights violation in any other way.  You people need help.

Ugh what an awful story. I wasn't able to find anything humorous in it, only shock and disgust which quickly turned to sadness over how things like this seem to happen with increasing regularity. From the article: The following month, Clement received a $6,792 bill from Albany Med for the procedures. Hospital records indicate the final diagnosis as "hemorrhoids."

LadyEllen -> RE: drug police put cam in worng mans anus (5/14/2008 6:38:18 AM)

If this guy is serving time in prison, and is suspected of having drugs where the sun dont shine - and such drugs were found, which prison officers would be sacked for dereliction of duty in allowing him through with his cargo?

adding insult to injury...calling him a pain in the ass.

Rule -> RE: drug police put cam in worng mans anus (5/14/2008 6:47:35 AM)

Drugs ought to be decriminalized.

RealityLicks -> RE: drug police put cam in worng mans anus (5/14/2008 6:47:44 AM)

He is serving time in prison for a separate offense - even if it is drug-related, which is not clear, that has no bearing on the reported case.  This isn't about the character of the victim, however unsalutory,  its about the violation of his rights. I have noted that those who find this incident amusing may well be suffering from emotional or mental imbalances and hold to that view.

slaveboyforyou -> RE: drug police put cam in worng mans anus (5/14/2008 6:49:53 AM)

Yeah, we recently had a thread where a bunch of people berated me for saying that you have a right to question the orders of police officers.  This completely illustrates my point.  The pigs (that's what they are) grab this guy off a bus and after putting him through this shit, they have the audacity to make up a resisting arrest charge.  It's typical, incompetent police work to make up some bullshit charge in order to save face after a false arrest.  Incidents like this, and incidents I have seen are exactly why I don't trust the police as far as I can throw them.  I wish Americans would get their balls back and stop thinking they have to kowtow to thugs just because they wear badges.

They weren't...which is the reason they drugged him and did the colonoscopy...sort of like searching for the non-existant WMDs

The question still stands - in most jobs one would be fired for such a serious breach of duty

The point though being, if we're to think harshly of this guy, then why not just as harshly of those who dont do their jobs properly and allow drugs into prison?

For real, that is your final observation as to what happened here? It is precisely because of his previous crimes, which have nothing to do with this incident, that the authorities knew they were safe to flush his civil rights down the toilet, and any exposure of their nefarious activities would produce an overwhelming reaction similar to yours.

Gonna LOL yourself all the way to a police state...

RealityLicks -> RE: drug police put cam in worng mans anus (5/14/2008 6:54:47 AM)

What's more disturbing is the view that having a record means you lose the right to be treated humanely.  When will people figure out that the way a society treats those at the bottom is every bit as important and moreso than they way they treat those at the top?

I'm not sure that prison figures hugely in this case, since the search was conducted on a then non-inmate arrested on a misdemeanour at a bus station.

LadyEllen -> RE: drug police put cam in worng mans anus (5/14/2008 7:09:14 AM)

Certainly RL - time issues meant I didnt read the link; however still an interesting debate point, no?

It must be for the officers concerned here to show why they suspected an offence was being committed, to prompt them to intervene. Not sure about the US, but "fishing trips" here are not sufficient reason, even where there is prior record.

Excellent post slaveboy. Know your rights people, and stop throwing your civil liberties out the window.
It isn't like we haven't had to deal with Bush and the Patriot Act stripping them away for the past 8 years....[8|]

Fishing trips aren't allowed here either.  Police have to have probable cause to stop someone and detain them.  But, police do it all the time.  They just lie on the reports later and commit perjury in court if they have to.  They rely on these people being scared and ignorant of the law.  When they run into someone that knows their rights, they pull shit like this.  They make up charges like resisting arrest or disorderly conduct.  I wish I could say it's rare, but it's not.  It's quite common.

RealityLicks -> RE: drug police put cam in worng mans anus (5/14/2008 7:22:31 AM)

Sorry LE, can't say I agree.  I know squat about US law but if the report is to be believed, there were several points at which standard procedure was ignored in the pursuit of conducting this search.  Like you, I would be very surprised to find that US doctors may carry out this procedure without the consent of the patient or a court order, which assumption leads me to think that no amount of suspicion or testimony or even hard evidence justifies the search.

I hope no-one reading this is ever a case of mistaken identity in that neck of the woods.
