.. did I just hear Barrack cut off a female reporter's question and blow her off with a "Hold on, Sweetie"????
... oooooooooooooooooooo.. we need to get that lad to sensitivity training and have him apologize profusely on all the talk shows..CNN..Oprah.. get some advise from Dr.Phil..

I mean.. that just is about insulting as you can get.. the only thing worse is being called "hon".
Of course, when he was called on it he just laughed and said "OH, I have a bad habit of calling people "sweetie"

Not acceptable.

Yeah..that's going to fly with the heads of state he wants to talk to in the middle east.

Curious - is this much different than when Hillary said (during Bill's first campaign) that she's not some stay-at-home wife who hangs around baking cookies all day?

Politicians are offensive.  That's pretty much the gist of it.

It's because they aren't in touch with the "real" world anymore.  They just think that they know.

Ugh... Sweetie? Really??

I hate pet names like that coming from people I don't know. It's very patronizing. :(

Nothing like picking a prime moment to shoot yourself in the political foot. There are some people who shoud not be allowed to speak in public without having scripts written fr them, since everytime they do they manage to make themselves look stupid.

Dont come to the UK is all I can say

Dependent on where you go, you can be called "love", "my love", "pet", and a whole host of other things of similar ilk, by complete strangers and acquaintances. And in some places, guys call each other by such appellations too.

Clinton got a blowjob in office from an intern, Bush is a complete moron who wouldn't know fact or reality if it bit him on the ass, Nixon was an absolute crook, yet people are up in arms about Obama because he interrupted a female reporter and called her sweetie???  Oh my God...what a fucking nightmare!!!

Why are some people so damn over-sensitive over things like that?  If he was extremely formal, people would be screaming he's pompous, he thinks he's better than everybody else, or he's trying to show off his intellect.  There is just no pleasing over-sensitive people.

In Louisiana, especially Cajun Country, we typically call everyone chere, which is along the same lines as being called sweetie.  If that bothers you or anyone you know, feel free to keep your asses out of Louisiana.

My issue isnt with what he called her, it was that he used it to stave off a good question he didnt want to be bothered with and never got around to addressing. He could have dismissed her with "One moment Madame" and still gotten everyone up in arms. But when you re in the hotseat because you and your opponent are ripping one another to shreds over every little piddly thing you can find out about each other.. giving fuel to the fire is not a good idea. No matter who eventualy wins the nomination, half the party is going to hate them.

That is very true and a very good point, sweetie.   (Sorry, couldn't resist the joke there).  To me, politics and campaigning is about as fake as pro wrestling.  They talk shit about each other, rip apart each other's character and integrity, and cause all sorts of strife within the party, yet after the dust settles, they are pretending they are friends again and support the unity of the party.  It's all a load of crap.

Everyone from the candidates to the media to everyday citizens is looking for a way to make the other candidate look bad.  They nit-pick EVERYTHING.  The media and candidates need to stop the nit-picking and start focusing on which candidate could do the better job over the topics that matter to us...the VOTERS.  Iraq, soaring fuel prices, and an economy in the middle of a recession seem to be the big three.

Who cares if he called a reporter "sweetie".  What positives could he bring to the White House is what should be the focus.  If he's dodging questions, he's either trying to hide something, or he thought the question didn't warrant an answer.  Either way, there is still much more of this circus left.

I guess the same type of people that would be offended if they asked Obama to  please go to the back of the bus\..which is pretty much what he did to the woman when he addressed her in such a way as to diminish her position as a reporter  I guess "little lady" would have been more acceptable?

To me.. condescending "endearments" like that are equal to a female type of  "n" word.  That "Let's keep them in their place" attitude.  Nope, that sound bite struck me hard and I'm not an overly sensitive person.  I wanted to slap his face.  And not to worry.. you can HAVE Louisiana.

I see this has been moved to Random Stupidity..the mod must be an Obama supporter?

I've often thought there's soemthing slimey about Barack. This just adds fuel to that. If the situation were reversed w ith Hillary calling a male reporter "sweetie" or "dearie", she'd be hit so hard with being a "weak, indecisive woman" that it's not funny. In this case, Obama is clearly showing an insensitive arrogance that is appalling. And people want this man in the White House?

I call people dearie, sweetie, or a host of other names all the time... I dont do it because Im trying to "put anyone in thier place" I do it because thats how I talk in real life, now, obviously im not a politician, but it seems to me that there are bigger issues at hand....like what the hell was this question he dodged? that seems a little more important then a simple word

If you follow the link that Level posted, it has the clip embedded on the page for you to see. The reporter clearly asked a question about the workers and he brushed her off and never did answer the question. *shrugs* And he wonders why people say he's not in touch with the blue collar workers....
