Hello A/all.

The question is for all submissives out there (male and female). The question is about old-fashioned hand-written diaries and not about blogs and other online stuff.

I had a sub in the past and she was keeping a diary before our relationship began. I was encouraging her to keep it later on, as diaries are a good way of expressing one's feelings and help a person to get thoughts sorted out. I always believed that I should not read it. So I was surprised when she gave it to me as a present upon her release. I did learn a lot from it and I'm grateful to her.

How many of you keep diaries? Did your Dom/Domme encourage/require you to keep it? Does He/She read it?

Why would she give it to you after her release?  Sounds like there was a lack of communication.

Several possible reasons. Lack of communication is one of them. Maybe she wanted to start a new diary after finding a new Master.

She gave you her journal after her release?  There is definitely a message in that.

I keep a blog, required to write daily in it.  It's something that I enjoy.  Even when I don't have much to say I can always turn to the cm message board for inspiration.

For those that have paper work fetish or reading/word fetish?  Diaries rock and can be very sexy.
As a communication tool?  If I was expected to do such, I would not find myself compatable with the person.

I have blogs and had them before I met Darcy - but I don't keep them to inform Darcy about anything - if I cannot say it to him in person that would be very concerning.

He did recently purchase me a wonderful book which I can place memories in of our times together and that is one of the most beautiful gifts I have ever been given by anyone.

Yea I'm wondering too why she gave you the diary after her release.  But you say she gave it to you as a present, so the breakup seems amicable in which case the message probably isn't "look at my diary; see how wrong you were about x, y, and z."  Then what's the reason?  Something to remember her by?

I learned two things from it. 1. Learned to better understand sub's feelings and emotions, how tender and sensitive her soul is. 2. She was ready for her release by the time I did it. 3. At the final chapter she was recalling how we met, and that she never regretted it.

So I think one of the reasons was that lack of communication Dnomyar referred to, and I have to admit that I was at times too harsh for her. Not sure if she wanted to say that she was ready, because I figured it out and it was not stated directly. Other possible reasons is to say some sort of "thank you", to start a new diary, new chapter in her life, turn the page or to leave me something to remember her by as SleepyDom said.

Thank you for your answers.

Jesus, well to be honest I like my master to request that I keep a diary of all my fantsies which I can reveal to him as we go along. Just keeping a diary for the sake of me isn't good as what's the point ? I agree with the rest - I think she was trying to tell you something.... or say look what your missing....

As I said earlier there are people for whom diaries are a good way of expressing and understanding their own feelings and helping a person to get their thoughts sorted out. And now I guess that there are also people who see it only as communication tool. Thank you for your answer. Do you write just your fantasies there or thoughts/emotions/feelings as well? Do you write about your fantasies that you would like to be fulfilled in the future or for example about a fantasy that was just fulfilled and you are describing how did you feel while it was happening?

I am supposed to write in a journal.  I am to discribe the training sessions and play sessions (from my point of view).  I am supposed to write down things I have learned, things I want and my feelings about things.  My Master has the right to read the journal whenever he wishes.  We have open communication about everything, but this is where he is able to see it more from my view when he has a chance to reflect.  I think it is a good idea.

i keep "notebooks" where i write down my thoughts, quotes, even quotes from something that i am reading. i do this during our apart time and i gift him the notebook each time we see each other so he will have something to read until next time...

i am required to write a diary entry after every session. And it is always submitted to him as soon as i am finished writing.

It gives me a great opportunity to reflect on specific physical and emotional feelings and see how i react to them. Also, i am free to offer up my "thank yous" over what really worked, and to give ideas and suggestions for what might need a little "tweaking". We often discuss my entries, usually for clarification.

As it turns out, we have both gone back to re-read old entries, and been amazed at the way we have changed. Since i also write a "blow by blow" description of what we do together, it has turned out to be a wonderful source of sentimental reminiscing. Of course sometimes i re-read it just for the porn factor!

OH! i think i have perved myself!

Journaling, in some way and form, is good for EVERYONE, in my opinion. Perhaps you should start one in addition to your subs?

Tried it when I was a teenager. It was really boring for me. But maybe at some point of my life I'll start one, who knows.

I keep journals, always have, always will. I do it mostly now for my little ones so they can see what life was like and how happy I have always been to have them in my life.

I'm too lazy to actually hand write in a diary, although I did that for years. I now use a Word doc. which is great because I can email it to my Sir and he can add comments or questions if he wishes. I am required to journal daily because transparency is part of my submission, however I do tend to let it slip when life gets busy. A couple of weeks ago my Sir laid down the law yet again and said I have to journal daily and I have to start each journal entry with the sentence, "I journal because I obey my Master." Oh and I'm not allowed to copy paste that line.

i think this is awesome and your subsequent explainations of this. What a gift! It is a good thing you have found pearls in her diary inwhich to improve upon for your next girl. So often, we never get those when relationships end. Perhaps i am over analyzing this morning but i am really impressed with this~

I agree.. to a certain degree.  I'd like to think that I could say what I needed to say face to face.  But I find that, in a relationship, sometimes it is easier for me to write things out and then present it to my partner.  Writing stuff forces me to THINK about what I want to say, then phrase it well... something I am not always able to do when face to face ( and that's for good stuff and bad stuff). Sometimes, for me, emotions get in the way of the meaning /intent of my words, so writing allows me a filter so that there is less chance of the emotions clouding the issue.

god, I'm still half asleep.. did that make sense?

OTOH, I'm horrible about journaling/diary keeping.  I sacrificed a top grade in Honors English in college because I told the professor that I just was not able to do it (I still got an A, though..LOL). If a potential partner required me to do it, and it was a deal breaker, he'd no longer be a potential...
