Good guys/bad guys = video games childish [8D] .

cloudboy -> RE: Indiana Jones makes Russian communists see red (5/25/2008 11:36:27 AM)

I saw it LAST NIGHT and I thought the film was POOR.

Hero: Indiana Jones: (Ageless, Agile, 9-lives v. aging, less capable, and more vulnerable)

Villain: Dominatrix Style Russian KGE Agent: (Pretty, Brunette, single-minded, devoted to Stalin)

Hero's bastard son: (A 50s style rocker.)

Hero's ex lover: (Bitter x-girlfriend who aged poorly.)

Lunatic Sage: (Enables the writers to move a plot along by hocus-pocus.)

Action scenes: (Entail visual appeal but no suspense.)

No character is two dimensional, and old formula of IJ action seems pointless and silly throughout.

Ending is a jungle-location ripoff of the FIRST MOVIE.

Other irritations: Movie trivializes nuclear weapons, likens the earth and nature to a theme park, and confuses the PAST with historical props.

For me to be more engaged, the adventure has to have some sense reality, history, and adult tensions to it.

Irishknight -> RE: Indiana Jones makes Russian communists see red (5/25/2008 2:49:35 PM)

if you were looking for some deep meaning, you went to the wrong movie to begin with.  Its supposed to be unrealistic in many ways.   While you might want more realistic plots, most folks at this time will spend money just to watch shit explode and people chase each other in cars.  That being the case, thats what Hollywood makes.
Me?  I plan to watch it just to enjoy without trying to read anything else into it.  When you waste time looking for something not intended by the movie, you are going to be incapable of enjoying it.  Do you complain about the lack of realism in Woody Woodpecker or Scooby Doo?

cyberdude611 -> RE: Indiana Jones makes Russian communists see red (5/25/2008 3:53:45 PM)

This is an action/adventure movie. Its not going to have much deep thinking.

Most of George Lucas and Steven Speilberg movies have interesting charactors but they arnt very deep. Most of their movies are also pretty cut and dry battle between good and evil.

Even Jurassic Park which I thought was good was very superficial. The book is MUCH more interesting character-wise and scientific-wise.

But my point is...when you go to a movie made by one of these two guys...remember it is for entertainment.

Arpig -> RE: Indiana Jones makes Russian communists see red (5/25/2008 3:58:57 PM)

I have not seen the movie (will wait till it comes out on video likely, if at all) but the whole issue seems stupid as fuck to me...dumb ass commies have nothing better to bitch about, I guess the present Gvt of Russia isn't doing such a bad job.

bipolarber -> RE: Indiana Jones makes Russian communists see red (5/25/2008 4:01:17 PM)

And the thing is, I kept waiting for Boris Badinov to show up... Cate Blanchette had the Natasha Fatale accent down perfectly! I kept waiting for her to say, "Boris, darlink, ve must get Moose and squirrel!"

awmslave -> RE: Indiana Jones makes Russian communists see red (5/25/2008 4:08:47 PM)

Just saying "Russians are idiots"  would be wrong. The national inferiority complex Russians have is a fascinating phenomenon. It definately deserves deeper study.

kittinSol -> RE: Indiana Jones makes Russian communists see red (5/25/2008 4:29:23 PM)

More fascinating than your superiority complex?

FullCircle -> RE: Indiana Jones makes Russian communists see red (5/25/2008 6:51:20 PM)

I can't even remember the plot to the other films and I'm not sure I can be bothered to watch them again to catch up and watch this one.

I work with some Russians and the last thing I would accuse them of is having an inferiority complex.

kittinSol -> RE: Indiana Jones makes Russian communists see red (5/25/2008 6:56:52 PM)

Tell me about it. If a person constantly needs to put down others, what does it say to you about their sense of self-worth?

And which nation puts down other nations the most [8D]?

That's EXACTLY what my friend and I thought of when Indiana makes fun of her accent.

But you have to love what she did to that ant between her knees....  [:D]

Since I can see where you're headed with that question, I'll answer this way:

That would be the nation that appears to be the biggest target for other nations' put-downs.

kittinSol -> RE: Indiana Jones makes Russian communists see red (5/25/2008 8:34:32 PM)

You got my point :-) . Nobody feels sorry for bullies.

And my point is, sometimes the bully is created. Sometimes the bully chooses fear over friendship because no one liked him to begin with.

I admit it could be controversial to say anything about a nation as it certanly includes all kind of individuals. However, by bringing out examples that oppose general observation does not prove anything as I am talking about statistical phenomenon. I am just an observer, not putting anybody down. Inferiority complex is perhaps wrong word. The problem Russians are having (well related to movie ban) is that Russia never actually has seriously rejected Russian communism that was the worst disease of mankind (worse than Nazism in Germany). So they try to deny it and they react to everything that brings it up angrily (to relieve hidden guilt).

cyberdude611 -> RE: Indiana Jones makes Russian communists see red (5/25/2008 10:04:35 PM)

The problem with Russia is trust. They've been invaded so many times in history they dont trust anyone anymore...

awmslave -> RE: Indiana Jones makes Russian communists see red (5/25/2008 11:03:42 PM)

I am not sure about the "trust" issue and who is bigger invider. All Russian morden history is built on idea of swallowing neighboring countries and building an empire. Just take a look at the map. Russia have been invided only a few times in history after 1700 while Russia itself has invaded other countries routinely. Even now they try hard to aquire some Georgian territory (meaning Abkhasia and South Ossetia). It is hard to understand politics as lot of  their own very fertile land  is unpopulated.

Hippiekinkster -> RE: Indiana Jones makes Russian communists see red (5/25/2008 11:42:44 PM)

You gotta understand what Hollywood is. Hollywood is a big bank where people go to borrow money to make product to sell to make money for themselves and the bankers. Underwriting a film is based on profit projections.

Indiana Jones is a no-brainer for the bankers.

Source please. Is it www.russianpersonalitydisorderstatistics.com

Why are you observations more accurate than mine I don't understand? You are talking about the nation that beat you to space and produced a nuclear bomb with a fraction of the resources you had through cunning.

And then they fell. And ohhhhhh how they fell.

How many soviet nukes are "missing" and presumed to be out on the black market somewhere? Yeah....they could make 'em. But it looks like they couldn't secure them.
