Ok.....

I love Harley's.....mind you I've never actually owned one as yet.

I prefer bikes that go around corners faster than walking pace and prefer the street fighter style.

Although having said that I do like the look of some Harley chops and street bikes.

I am thinking of trading my present Triumph trophy chop for a custom Harley V-Rod.

I'm thinking of going to the states to buy one.

Anybody out there got one or had one?

If so whats your impression?

Good or bad.

My impression is that those things are horribly noisy and that they should be banned from densely populated areas. There's little excuse for a thing so small that transports only two people at a time to make a noise equal to a fighter jet.

I predict that this thread will turn into a battle.  Does any thread about Harleys ever end well around here?

Yes, motorbikes seem to be as divisive as the presidential elections *duck*.

Trust me Kittin, you want to back off of this one.  I learned from the last biker thread that criticism of loud, annoying, mid-life crisis induced hobbies equaled un-Americanism and hatred for freedom.

Not to mention the lengthy safety debate about if it's better to go deaf from a bike going past you or being hit by a quiet one you didn't hear coming. The noisy ones you can jump out of the way of in the style of an action movie character.

Thanks for the advice, slaveboy: it's amazing how conflict arousal takes roots in the most irrelevant of discussions  .

PS: and let's not forget to add fuel to the debate with this:

Helmet, or no helmet?

Fuel to the debate? Them nasty bikers should be using chip fat oil drained from environmentally friendly sources, damnit!

I love love love love love the man's Harley.  I just got back from Bike Week down in Myrtle Beach and was in heaven.  Surrounded by about 250,000 Harleys.  Nothing like that sound when they all rev up at the same time.  I was soooo wet the entire time.

harleys are delicate little pieces of machinery that are always in need of some kind of work...

get something else...

bikes are nice, you can do just fine without getting a harley...

I hear Schwinns are still popular and get excellent gas mileage.

I s'pose it's fun to ride a bike on a warm summer day. But I'd rather ride it than be stuck like a lemon on the backseat.

Awww...don't be jealous.  I'm sure that someday, if you're a really really good girl you'll get to meet someone who owns one.  And they may even give you one ride on it.
