I use an old Gillette safety razor, and I get the best shaves with it.  The blades are cheap.  I pay about 5 dollars for 10 blades, and the blades will last about a week and a half for me.  I will never go back to paying 15 bucks for 10 replacement cartridges in a multi bladed razor again.  Safety razors give better shaves anyway.  The only thing better is a straight razor.  I won't use one.  I am a klutz, and I would end up cutting my throat.

How many times do you have to go over the same area with a single blade? (Three times more than with a Sensor Excel and four times more than with a Fusion; think about it it's logic.) Also with a single blade you can't take so much liberty with it because the contact area is less even, if you get used to using a multiblade and you go back to a single blade you end up digging holes in your face. It's a time issue you pay more but you can do it faster with less caution.

I second that!

Except the klutz part......

I just came across the concept of metrosexuality on another forum and though here would be a good place to see what you folks think.

Am I metrosexual, hardly,

I have long hair and a beard, what face is left gets shaved with a cut throat razor,(reason for beard, can't shave around curves without slashing).
I do, on occaision use after shave balm, as after a cut throat has skinned off the top layer of dead skin, you need it, and stinkum I use when I am out to impress. If I have to put that on, then it is one modern people don't really know, Dior Fahrenheit.
My dress sense, well, that is quite definately my own, smart, but different, often fetish
Jewellery, yep, I wear it, I make and wear what I want to wear, which serves as free advertising.

I'm about as NON metro as it gets.  I don't own a suit or tie, work in shorts and t-ee shirt every day.  I only have three sets of shoes, two pair of crocks, and my work boots.  When I get cleaned up, it's clean shorts, aloha shirt and my cleaner crocks.  But this is a non metro area also.  I won't pay for a haircut.  I hate being charged by the hair, or having to pay a hefty finders fee.  Just wish I could grow scales.

Hey... I beg to differ.....if I use a multi blade razor I'm lucky if I get three shaves out of it.......yet if I use a safety razor it lasts for at least a month!

And its a third of the price of a fancy multi blade!

You get 10 safety blades to 5 multi blade disposables for less money.

You said you shave once a week therefore the blade lasts three weeks. Your single blade lasts one week longer maybe because it doesn't get clogged up with the overburden of shaving once a week.

I go over the same area twice.....But then I have to do that with any razor.......

Thats why I always shave before I shower, because if I do inadvertently nick myself, I find the shower cleans it up and it doesn't show afterwards.

But after 20 years of using a safety razor I hardly ever nick myself when shaving!

True I did say that...but then I also said I shave more often sometimes if I go out of an evening.

I always shave when I'm off to meet a girl......most girls prefer freshly shaven.....

Some simple logic is failing us here unless we think there is some kind of conspiracy and they make the single blade razors sharper.

Look at it like a system: the first blade will do most of the work when that sharts to get blunt the next blade will take on the lead role etc. etc.

Following that logic why does one blade last longer than three or four?

Its not that they make anyone razor sharper...its just that its far easier to clean a safety razor than a multi razor.

Less blades = less to get clogged up with hair.

Besides with a safety razor it doesn't get clogged up at all!

It depends on how close of a shave I want.  I will usually go over an area twice.  I shave once with the grain, and then once up against the grain.  It does take getting used to, and it does take longer.  You don't press down with a safety razor.  It's heavier, so you just use the weight and allow it to glide across your face.  You have to keep your face wet.

To save time and as a matter of preference, I generally shave in the shower.  I have a mirror in there, and I keep my razor, shaving cream, and shaving brush on the shower shelf.  The steam from the shower makes all the hairs on your face stand up, and your face stays nice and moist.

That means you are wasting money throwing away perfectly good razors when you could take a few moments to unclog them by rubbing your thumb over the blades the wrong way. Maybe you should shave slightly more often so that the hair doesn't grow to the lengths where it becomes such a problem in the first place?

The one blade tends to last longer in my opinion bacause the multi blades do tend to get clogged up big time...especially with my hair......when I used to use the multi blades I found the only way to get them clean was to use an old tooth brush!

And to be honest I've got better things to do then spend my time after shaving, cleaning the blades with an old tooth brush!

I refer you to my having to use a tooth brush.....

Whilst were on the subject of shaving and "Metrosexuality"........

I have heard of certain Metro men having lazer treatment to permanently remove not only body hair but facial hair as well.........

Maybe if I ever win the lottery I can give that option some serious thought......not!!

I don’t know maybe you just have sensitive skin or maybe you are using the wrong products if you get a rash. Maybe when you used to get a rash from shaving once a day you were going over the same area too much.
No one can say for sure but you.

Well FullCircle.....I have no complaints about the way I shave now.....For me using a safety razor when I shave is a pleasure rather than a chore.
