Softness,

Thanks for sharing. That's an interesting perspective.

I know that some girls do get a charge out of getting a thousand emails a day. I have a question: do you think you'll always enjoy getting 1000 emails a day? In my experiance, most people get sick of it after a few months.

OmegaG -> RE: ATTENTION ALL MEN!!!! STOP SENDING SPAM!!!!!! (6/2/2008 1:15:54 PM)

you are not taking into account that most everyone with basic reading comprehension skills can determine in a nano-second if they e-mail is spam or personalized.  The amount of time they chose to spend on it from that moment on is their own personal choice.  There have been quite a few women already on this thread that have said that it's not as big of a deal to them as it is to you, why does it matter so much to you?  Do your e-mails read as spam?  Maybe you need to come up with a better form of communication.

Personally, when I'm bored, I like answering them line for line to see how long I can play with the clueless.  I'll have to start correcting them now too, that could be fun.

I was being *deeply* ironic .. but that often doesn't come across on web boards .. if I needed spam email to make myself feel wanted ... I would be having a serious conversation with myself about my worth as a human being and planning ways to get a life .. and sharpish

I dont waste energy being riled, annoyed or irked by spam email ... if someone is obviously bulk sending .. I just delete it without a second thought, or a single care, it takes less than a second and hardly is a nightmare in the grand scheme of things. Life is far too short for that, many many many people however constantly choose to waste time and energy on activities that have neither a positive (and enriching) or negative (and destructive) effect on their lives ...

the day I become riled and hissy about bulk email clogging my inbox, like genuinely upset about it, is the day I pack up my profile and go offline, because honestly .. why sweat the stuff that matters not?

Bita,

I think you may be reading something in my original post that I did not intend. Unlike spam, this is a discussion board.

I seriously doubt I read something in your original post which you didn't put there. I'm not that imaginative so I just call it like I see it. If you don't want to own it, that's up to you.

quote:

If you do not like this topic, no one is forcing you to read it or respond to it.

How do you know that I'm not being forced to read and respond? Maybe someone is holding a gun to my head. Maybe my Master has ordered me to read and respond to every post today. Maybe I work for the Internet Police and it's part of my job. I assume nothing and question everything but I'm not going to go around telling everyone else they have to do things my way.  You are free to throw fits and backpeddle and I'm free to call it like I see it. See how well that works?

quote:

Spam on the other hand, can become an invasion of your private space when it piles up in huge amounts. That is the difference.

Spam is no more an invasion of my private space then getting leaflets from the local grocery store. It's a form of marketing. I can choose to let it bug me or I can choose to ignore it .. or, damn, I can choose to read through it and see if there's any good coupons. Do you get this yet, Z? "Your" ideas are not the same as everyone's. You can attempt to dictate, but the odds of it working are slim at best. You, in a later post, qualified your OP and said that you wanted to have a discussion on the topic but given the context of your responses, that's not the way it appears.

As to the rest of 'your' post. I read it through the first time you posted it so a rehash is a waste of time and unnecessary .. sort of like most of the spam that finds it's way into my mailbox.

Go figure.

Celeste

ahhhh but if people didn't come in here to rant ... who would we have to poke in the brain with the cyber stick?

MasterZen22 -> RE: ATTENTION ALL MEN!!!! STOP SENDING SPAM!!!!!! (6/2/2008 1:24:25 PM)

Omega

In answer to your question, I find the overflow of spam to be annoying, so I decided to try and do something about it. It's that simple. I do not think spam is the end of the world... but I do not think there's anything wrong with voicing my opinions and trying to solve a problem either.

I do find it BIZARRE how many responses I've gotten that were vitriolic and were personal attacks against me though.

But I guess that's just the nature of the internet... sigh.

Best wishes!

Like that.

ownedgirlie -> RE: ATTENTION ALL MEN!!!! STOP SENDING SPAM!!!!!! (6/2/2008 1:33:01 PM)

I'm glad you edited the part out of your last reply where you called everyone trolls, as that put you below the spammers.

You haven't posted here much, and perhaps you haven't read a lot of threads, either, but this is a place we come to share ideas, argue ideas, ask advice, argue about the advice, and so on.  Every week there are threads, similar to your own, by people who are tired of the BS the world - online or off - has to offer.  They don't much solve anything, and have since become a medium where people can express frustration, sarcasm, humor, and arguments in response to such threads.  Over time, they come across as whining and don't actually do anything about the problem.  They end up just being more clutter to sift through.

Whether it's junk mail in my home mailbox or in my internet mailbox, it's not going to go away, so I toss it upon arrival.

OmegaG -> RE: ATTENTION ALL MEN!!!! STOP SENDING SPAM!!!!!! (6/2/2008 1:33:34 PM)

so, check this out, you find spam annoying enough to post a thread about it and read everyone's responses and maintain a serious demeanor in the midst of sarcasm, maintaining that it's a serious problem that needs fixing (hint, ain't gonna happen and you are wasting energy).  What does that say about you and what you want to portray to a potential?

A woman get's upset about spam either because she feels obligated to read and reply to every one that comes in or because she likes to get her knickers in a twist, what does that say about her and do you feel that the frustration she displays is appropriate for someone you would consider as a potential?

Personally, I love watching people when they are reacting to adverse situations, almost all of us can be congenial when things are going well, but it does say something about a person if they blow of the handle or remain graceful when situations are less then optimal.

I agree. However I did choose to be very loud, in my original post, the hopes that it would grab attention and more people would read it.

I guess it work!!!! heheh. Ah the fun of psychology!

Omega,

That is true, I agree. One of the original points I had in my post is that constant spamming changes the DYNAMIC of interactions online. It seems to me that if a women always has 1000 emails to open then she will probably spend more time sifting through the emails and less time actively searching the site for people who would genuinely match her. I'm sure she'd spend some time looking through the site, but probably less than she other wise would have.

I think if men and women got less spam there'd be more chances of people searching carefully through each others profiles and making a real connection. I'd be interested to hear other people's opinion on that idea.

I think if they are that serious about finding a meaningful and worthwhile match ... they wouldn't be waiting for it to bite them on the arse, or complaining about spamming .. they would be proactively seeking out connections by doing just that .. the people who seem really serious (or at least come across as serious) .. do a lot of that anyhow

even going crazy and hitting a munch or a party ... ground breaking I know .. but blue sky thinking has to come from somewhere

Stop operating off opinion and get real.

I am not speaking from opinion.  Platonic female friends, and women I have dated, have shown me the contents of their inbox and asked my advice about whether to write certain people back, etc.  Maybe everyone on this thread except you has met people in real life from CollarMe.  I get a lot of answers to my emails, and *I* am often the one who decides I'm not interested, after a woman responds to my initial email.

You don't know what you are talking about.  You are constructing an excuse for your own lack of results, instead of dealing honestly with why women do not find you attractive.

How many women -- hell, how many human beings -- are attracted to someone who bitches about the failings of others in a loud voice?

We are trying to help you.

If you're talking about spam from men, then you just need to set your cmail filters.  If you're getting people who don't match your criteria (age 18 to 33), then again, hit those filters.

I think you're spending a whole lot of time deciding what women are doing, which in my experience, has little bearing on reality.

Oh, and if you aren't meeting anybody in real life from here, you might want to reconsider the "tone" of both your profile and your journal.  It's a bit off-putting.  You might want to utilize a spell-checker as well.
