These boards alone reek of it, of the pernicious kind of racism (bar one or two exceptional posters who are blatant) that tries to dissimulate behind a veil of respectability.

Mighty convenient, isn't it Kitten?  Somebody says anything you don't like, you can just label them a rascist, and ignore all those uncomfortable ideas that don't fit into a sheltered worldview of blissful ignorance and absolute certainty of your own preconcieved notions.

If it reassures you in any way, I wasn't thinking about you. And note nobody was called anything, but that I commented racism was present on the boards. Are you denying that fact?

Strangely enough, nobody thinks twice about calling those that disagree with one 'liberals' or other flowery names. Goes both ways, you know.

My personal favorite is being called "politically correct".  Seems to be some sort of left-handed way of  calling me wrong-headed without directly dealing with the points i've made.

Somebody on these boards (can't remember who) recently made the remark that anti-PC was the new PC. I think it's quite true - the forces of reaction are always lurking...

I wouldn't deny it for an instant, Kitten, and we have them coming from all sides.  Anything but a single standard without regard for skin pigmentation is rascist, at least to my way of thinking.

Those who demand special tolerances or lowered standards are just as rascist as those who discriminate in directly negative ways.

"Special tolerance", "lowered standards"? I have seen nothing of the sort so far; can you show me examples? I doubt that my vision is as unconsciously selective as that of those people that sit in tacit approval (or passive complacency) of unbridled xenophobia, antisemitism and other assorted social inadequacies.

Sure Kitten.  "Special tolerances" would include things like certain groups being allowed to dictate how others shall refer to them, subject to change without notice, of course.

"Lowered standards" would be an attitude of pity, an assumption of victimhood, and allowing people to use their race as a defense for unacceptable behaviors.

You've missed these occurences in life, how?

Why must every little disturbance in the life of a minority be the result of racism by white people?

Can't at least some of it just be plain everyday bad luck? The kind that Murphy hands out with regularity without regard to race, creed, or color?

yes... and its the very sensitive, twitchy types that find racism in every look, comment and twist of bad luck and possibly its those that in no small way set up much of the irritation between races.  a couple of christmases ago we were told that we couldnt say 'happy christmas' because it would upset those that werent of the christian faith - bang! another set of resentment flags go up.  im amazed by the PC wagon at times, its so unbelievably out of touch!  england were playing someone in footie (probably germany it nearly alwasy is) and people were told they couldnt fly the red and white flag because it was intimidating - bang! needless to say on both occasions people went out of their way to say happy christmas as loudly as they could to as many people as they could and the sales of red and white flags went up not down.

but my friend was talking about people saying shit stuff, clearly racist, no ambiguity.

in the end, as always it only takes a couple of arseholes to perpetuate a problem and a whole crowd of PC idiots to make it worse.

Just me but I think racist is the wrong word to use for people against affirmative action…Or people that think at times African Americans are seeing racism where it does not exist… Or people that wonder why there is so much violence in African American culture and communities…Or why so many African Americans turn to crime…Or why African Americans can call white people and their culture anything they want yet a white person doing exactly the same thing is persecuted….Or why it is OK to have a black beauty contest but not white…or special music awards for blacks but not whites…Or why contractors working in a city with majority of blacks must hire a certain percentage of blacks and black contractors…when it is illegal to do the same thing for whites in white majority cities….on and on.

I don’t see these people as racists…I see them maybe not understanding some of the reasoning behind each example above… and there are viable reasons. But I certainly understand their thinking and believe there is some truth there as well.

They believe the time for entitlements, though necessary years ago, is past. If they are wrong it is time for the Africa American community to show them why they are wrong. These are good people that will understand with a good explanation.

Racists are those who feel that people of  a specific race are innately inferior.

If that is what really motivates the 'Get over it!' comments, or 'Who cares if somebody flies a flag/uses a word?' rhetoric (whether they admit it or not), it is racist.

If the motivation isn't racism but they truly do not grasp the entirety of the situation, then it is lack of sufficient information.

And if it is motivated by the notion that affirmative action or anything else can be turned to bad ends, then they are cynics...

Do Enjoy. I shall do the same.  There is something to be said for a life spent as an army brat, emphasis on brat.

Goodness gracious that would seem like quite a racist generalization.  While my heredity is Irish, and my life has been spent in the US with a few trips elsewhere, i will be more than happy to tell you in Spanish, Russian, French, Turkish, and and, of course my inadequate English to bite me.
That having been said, i hope that you have a great day, and get on with your life, as i intend to.

i don't think what i said was directed at you, but it is hard to be sure from the lack of profile.  Have a great day in any case.
