What if Obama becomes the nominee?

What if he wins the Presidency?

What if he finds that it is not racism but greed and ambitious individuals he has to contend with?

What if he finds that the “good old boys” club is alive and well?

What if his achievement negates playing the race card for any and all minorities?

MY GOD!  What IF we now have to judge a person by the content of their character????

When he seizes the nomination- what excuses will be made when anyone fails at anything????

What will we do without our racism??

(When I was growing up-  all I knew is that there were white people and black people.  It wasn’t until I was 19 that I found out that there was such a thing as Hispanics, Latinos, Asian, Indians and Middle Eastern people were NOT just white people with a tan caused by the region they lived in.  Really.  We really didn’t care about race. )

What will I do without racisim? Same thing as I've always done. Judge a man by his deeds and then by his words.

But then, I've done without racism all my life, so go figure.

That first bolded line kinda goes right against that second bolded line.  Don't it now.

Not really.  It wasn't my family that pointed out the difference. It was "well meaning" people that pointed out I was dating a different "race" at the time.  Try again, Aileen.

i know this thread is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but i do wonder about an Obama presidency; he'd still have a Democratic Congress but i don't know if he has the experience to deal with entrenched lawmakers and the underbelly of politics.  It was incredibably bad in Florida; i can only imagine what goes on at the federal level.

That, and the fact that the executive branch has grown so huge, especially with the Dept of Homeland Security.  i really wonder what kind of learning curve he'd be on, and how well we'd do while he scaled it.

My post here wasn't all that tongue in cheek.  Know that saying "Be careful what you wish for.. you may get it"?

Obama can no longer play the race card because with the nomination.. it is no longer an issue and the reverse would be true.. if Hillary got it- females could no longer say "I'm held back because of the glass ceiling".

Either situation puts their success or failure squarely in their laps.

All right, it is all your fault for me snorting coffee all over my computer.  Very funny, very good, and i will take responsibility for my own actions.  I should know better than to start into a new thread with coffee in my mouth.  By the way, Obama's pregnancy is a vast right wing conspiracy.
i would tend to view an Obama presidency as real close to a Carter presidency.

What if the next prez can't achieve jack nor shit because of the mess left behind by his predecessor?

Vote McCain! Stick him with the presidency. Things will get worse. The USA will fall apart pronto and California can at last become its own nation!

I have a dream...!

Mostly circumstances over which he currently has little or no control.  Continued unchecked fuel prices will put the economy into a tailspin.  (His inclination is that cutting the fuel taxes would not offer enough relief so his choice is not to do that).  His view on the international scene appears that his drive will be to appease and negotiate with leaders whose history and cultures have indicated that they are more impressed and convinced through strength.
He does amazingly well when working from a speech, but seems to slip up when he is put to open questioning, a skill which i would like to see him develop quickly.  He also seems to back down quickly under pressure.
i could spout gloom and doom for hours, as he is yet an unknown quantity.  i hope that i am 180 degrees wrong, and that i have underestimated the fellow's potential.  i hope that, if he becomes president, that he turns out to be the breath of fresh air the country needs.
i almost forgot, i hope that he does not deliver durning the inauguration party, although that would be a change too, wouldn't it.

Yes the post Vietnam period and inflation of the CARTER years does approximate what the NEXT US President will encounter.

Thanks, i was also recalling leaders in the middle east testing US strength and determination by taking over an embassy in Iran, a few encounters in Libya as well as a Soviet field exercise that crossed their border into Afghanistan.  While Carter did not have a war to contend with, his diretion was a reduction in forces, and military cuts.  This also sounds like Mr Obama's direction, once he withdraws the troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

My apologies, i put words into Mr. Obama's mouth that weren't there.  His idea seems to be a redeployment in Afghanistan with the intention of removing Al Qaeda as far as necessary, if necessary, apparently, into Pakistan.   i thought that i had read that on his website, but i misread.
