      One favorite talking point for anti-war types, might go flying right out the window in November.  Wouldn't that be a shame...

Status: offline 		Well yes it is nice that he hasn't been making political hay out of his son's service, but honestly, does A/anyone think this kid will be in any danger?  He'd be a prize for the opposition there; i'm sure he'll be surrounded by bodyguards and stay as far away from the front line as possible.
 
But yes, it is nice.

You mean out of harms way like his dad - Capt John Sidney McCain III? The Naval Aviator who was the son of Admiral John Sidney McCain Jr, the Commander In Chief Naval Air Forces Pacific, when he was shot down in his A-4 and held prisoner? The man who refused preferential treatment and early release when the VC wanted to return him because his father was CINCNAVAIRPAC ? The same one whose other son flew A-6's off of the Big E? Thats the McCain family whose kid is going to get a body guard and be kept out of harms way right???? Also - since when does the Marine Corps issue body guards to Corporals????

         Types, Kitten.  A broad and sweeping characterization, roughly synonymous to "if the shoe fits."

         And if you are not familiar with the pro-war types, that only pushes me more towards a conclusion that you need to get out more.

Status: offline 		i'm always amazed that so many individuals, in so many countries feel that military service or being related to someone who has served their country, automatically makes them a better politician.  They are not complementary.  There have been appalling politicians who have served in the military. 

Another bug bear i have is those in the public eye, who do something on the quiet should be applauded ... it's like it's like Paris Hilton picking her nose ... nothing is on the quiet if you are in the public eye.

it's those that served who aren't in the public eye who need the help, look at any returned servicemen in any country ... they are not receiving the assistance they earned, and then those that have impairments as a consequence of their service .. no where near the compensation they deserve ... practicality above popularity!

OK first of all, teachers are fucking babysitters with a college degree... I was married to a teacher - color this worksheet does not formulate the basis of civilization. While teachers like to pat their own backs it is largely psychobabble bullshit, and a teaching degree is a fucking joke...  Four years of "how to write a lesson plan"  LOL been there, saw it, helped her cheat her way through it...  "Pedagological Principles" my ass... Its psychobabble. Gee lets count jellybeans and call them "manipulatives".... Ooooh lets throw around letters so we sound smart - IAP, EAP, SNC, ILA, etc.. Several of the dumbest people I know are teachers - inluding a woman who thinks the US Constitution is "a boat that leads water parades" and who thinks Iraq is on the other side of Galveston cause thats the gulf!!!

Nurses fill a valuable function but its for the most part a two year degree... Kind of like air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic or "collision repair technology"...

Doctors, ok Ill concede they are a profession... However if I were to pick those who truly build a civilization I would say it is the lawyers, the businessmen, and the engineers... After all, those are the ones who develop the rules and order, run the economic engine, and create the infrastructure...

Nonetheless, I entered the military with an engineering degree that I earned in 3 years from th #4 engineering school in the USA...While not REQUIRED just about every military pilot is an engineering, math, or science grad. (You need a bacherlors degree in anything - but the selection boards prefer those three disciplines as they are more likely to be able to handle the academics) President Carter was degreed as a nuclear engineer, and the Naval Academy is one of the finest nuclear engineering schools in the world. The military isnt a collection of imbecilles morons and cretans who wander in for lack of a job... It is a highly technical, highly skilled force of people that accepts only the best and brightest into the officer corps and that provides the best job training in the world to its enlisted people.  

Oh and FYI it is a hell of a lot harder to become a military pilot, special warfare operator, reactor technician, diver, etc than it is to become a doctor, nurse or LMFAO teacher!

Pretty impressive since he got his 'nuclear engineering' degree in 1946

Honestly, my education is "in spite of" my teachers not because of them. I showed up at kindergarten already knowing how to read and how to print - and that was due to my mother not my teacher. I was always ahead of grade level and spent half of highschool cutting class, or bored out of my mind because the class was geared for the weakest link and I was like Jesus Christ can we move on with this! I was taking classes at a community college before I graduated HS and entered college with the transfer credit of a second semester sophmore... The only reason it took me 3 years to graduate was because of the prerequistes and sequencing of upper division engineering classes - so I had semesters I filled with bullshit like "Advanced Horseback Riding" or "Introduction To Golf" or electives from other disciplines because all I really NEEDED that semester was two engineering classes totalling 6 sh so I took 12 hours of other stuff as I already had all my liberal arts done...

Status: offline 		The only real heroes left are firemen/firepersons(?). People interested in fire are also kind of weird. Sure, they help you to save your homes, personal belongings and your cat in a tree - I am not saying that they don't do these great, useful things. But they are also pretty weird on a personal level. They are thrill-seekers of a kind. Most will admit this fact, BTW. Just sayin'...

Everyone else is doing a job for a reason that is up to them to figure out. Medical professionals are well paid enough that I can't see what they do as particularly heroic. Generally speaking they do not risk their own lives in any way to save those of others. And they are very well compensated for their troubles. I'm sure the job is stressful and I am certainly grateful to those that do their jobs well. But it ends there.

I think the people in our armed service deserve good wages, excellent medical care, career training, etc - whatever they were told they would get at a minimum and probably even more than that. But the armed forces have become a mercenary force at best in these times of ours. I wish they were more of a purely defensive force. They aren't invading/occupying Iraq/Afghanistan and thereby performing some great public good. You have to get real about this stuff. And no, I don't always agree that a good defense is a good offense - this isn't football, we are talking about keeping the peace and not taking human lives without more cause than making some very few people quite a bit richer than the rest of us.

Doesn't cocaine make you paranoid? Maybe that's why he committed treason by outing Plame in order to penalize Wilson. All for calling him a liar about his reasons for marching us into an unneeded war.

Yanno, the Repubs did have a Doctor running, and he got written off as a kook, and a nutjob by way too many... I'll stick with Military service people, over Doctors, or most of the Teachers I've met... Because frankly, neither group has done much to impress me.
