pissthirstysub -> RE: Annoying Acronyms (6/7/2008 10:09:18 PM)

I am annoyed with ones that are not very clear, and have to ask for definitions. I feel not with it when i have to ask, i still don't know what IMO stands for. Also, ones that only need to add a letter or two to create the word they actually stand for like yr.

Daddysredhead -> RE: Annoying Acronyms (6/7/2008 10:12:12 PM)

IMO = in my opinion

yr = year

ur = your; you're

pissthirstysub -> RE: Annoying Acronyms (6/7/2008 10:13:51 PM)

Pinksugarysub:  More than the slashy speak, the acronyms, the font, the colors and the overal inundation of posts - scrolling down every othe post and finding what amounts to negative and almost venomous arguments of you pissing against the wind, is becoming annoying.  The majority of readers and posters on CM don't like it, you do it.  So do it anyway already and quit arguing with the masses about it.  This entire topic is becoming beyond tiresome.

Whether slashy type and loud fonts bother people or not, the fact that almost every thread she posts gets hijacked for pages, with people complaining about it, could be contributing to the problem.  Not to mention that it constantly bumps the threads people are supposedly complaining about.

If a topic is a "nothing" topic, for me, I don't bother opening the thread.  If a certain thread bores me, I stop reading it.  If a certain poster consistently annoys, I hide them, to save the time of skimming through it all.  If I'm looking in Polls and Random Stupidity, I won't be surprised if I find an entirely frivolous topic, there.

Alright, so many have let her know that the slashy type and loud fonts aren't popular, here.  But she's let it be known that it gives her some satisfaction to do it that way.  I think she's got the message, and would rather do what she likes, than what they like.

That might have been useful for her to know, might be doing her a favour to let her know, initially.  But carping at her about it for pages and pages and pages...doesn't anyone else get tired of that?

Yikes!

Thanks, MadameMarque.

Maybe P/pl will be able to understand what You said.  Seems i haven't had much luck when i've tried saying it.

Not really, the point was that it is too much work to look things like that up, when instant understanding could just as easily be achieved by adding a couple of letters.

Acronyms = not annoying
Slash Speak = annoying in the extreme.  Not only annoying, but in my opinion, identifies those who use slash speak as chat room players, not real time.

We disagree.  If you re-read the Op, you'll see i have some criticism of the growing use of acronymns.

i don't think posts on a message boards can give any information about an P/person's real life circumstances.  For example, there have been dozens of 'please help me!' Ops that have struck me as pure fantasy.

Posting styles can change -- s'times from one site to another, other times as the member lingers here.  Posting style tells me nothing about a P/person, not even T/their basic personality traits.

To learn about a P/person, i spend time getting to know T/them in real life.

I belive that Katy was saying that she doesnt find acronyms annoying, but DOES find slashy speak to be so.

There is an important difference between your and you're, a shame this is lost in modern txt speak.

GreedyTop -> RE: Annoying Acronyms (6/8/2008 9:50:57 AM)

I agree, Rae..

(*grope*)

Raechard -> RE: Annoying Acronyms (6/8/2008 10:01:02 AM)

<sobs> I got really excited for a moment when I read this. But "hide" doesn't seem to work so the slash and burn posts continue  [image]http://www.collarme.com/htmlarea/smileys/0314.gif[/image]

.... unless anyone can tell me how to block these ghastly posts?

On the left side. Below the Avatar and the post count. It says, "hide, profile  and PM". Hit the one that says "hide".

lusciouslips19 -> RE: Annoying Acronyms (6/8/2008 10:35:05 AM)

Now all you've got to do is stop quoting and I wont have to look at it.
